If you're planning to travel abroad, you may need to show proof that you're vaccinated against coronavirus (COVID-19). This is your COVID-19 vaccination status.
Some countries may also ask for a negative COVID-19 test result. Always check the entry requirements for the country you're visiting before you book your travel. There is step by step travel advice on GOV.UK.
Who can get a COVID-19 vaccination status
You can get your COVID-19 vaccination status if all the following apply:
- you've had 2 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine
- you were vaccinated at a GP surgery, vaccination centre or hospital in England
- you're aged 16 or older
Children under the age of 16 cannot get a COVID-19 vaccination status. They may need to show a negative test result instead. Check the entry requirements for the country you’re visiting.
If you were vaccinated as part of a trial, you cannot currently get a vaccination status.
How to get your COVID-19 vaccination status
There are different ways to get your COVID-19 vaccination status.
Get a digital version
You can get a digital version using the NHS App or NHS website. You will need to set up an NHS login to do this.
Digital versions can be downloaded as a pdf or sent to you in an email.
You can get a digital version by:
- downloading the NHS App – you must be registered with a GP surgery in England to use the app
- visiting the COVID-19 status service
What is NHS login?
NHS login makes it easier and quicker for you to securely access digital health and care services with 1 username and password.
NHS login registrations may take longer than usual when there are high numbers of requests. You will need to register at least 2 weeks before your departure date.
Get a paper version
You can ask for a paper version of your COVID-19 vaccination status to be sent to you in the post.
You should get this within 5 working days.
You do not need to be registered with a GP surgery or have an NHS login for this.
You can get a paper version by:
- requesting a letter online
- calling 119 – do not call 119 if you're travelling in more than 4 weeks' time
You can request a letter 5 days after having your 2nd dose of the vaccine.
Protecting your data
When you access your COVID-19 vaccination status via the NHS App, or directly via the NHS website, you will use NHS login. NHS login has advanced security features to protect you and minimise any risk of fraud.
Your vaccination status displays your vaccination record only and no other personal health records.
