Review titled Awful practice
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Mr Perkins - Posted on 10 April 2024
Yesterday I dropped off a form to the front desk which needs to be completed to enable me to access treatment. The form is very simple and would take no more than a few minutes to complete, however I called this afternoon to check progress to be informed that it can take up to 28 days! Effectively, this means that I can't be treated and so will have to suffer whilst I wait. Whilst I understand that things don't get done immediately and there are processes to follow, it seems utterly ridiculous to have to wait a month for a simple 5 minute job to be done. The system simply doesn't work and this isn't the first time we (my wife and two children) have struggled to get treatment at Oaks. We all work and having to call between 8 and 10am is impossible for my wife who is a teacher and difficult for me as I start work at 7.30am. I was informed that this system has recently changed so that is possible to call any time, but once capacity for that given day has been exceeded then you'll have to call back again the next day. It's not possible to book an appointment outside of the day you are calling. We rarely visit the doctor and since it changed from Queenwood Surgery to Oaks it's become a real nightmare.

Review titled Absolutely dreadful
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 25 March 2024
Absolutely dreadful. Staff have no idea how to handle calls, they’re rude, love to interrupt and don’t have the correct knowledge to point you in the right direction. After having an eye problem, (pressure headaches, swelling and watering under my eye) I decided it was time to get it treated. After visiting a quite frankly useless pharmacist I decided to call my GP, of course no appointments available so I was offered the option of a call back from the nurse practitioner. Excellent, my eye will be sorted! Well, it wasn’t… The nurse practitioner recommended 3 options, A: Call QA eye department, B: call QA urgent eye department, C: visit a local urgent treatment centre( st Mary’s or Petersfield). Option A: no answer after multiple phone calls Option B: They won’t see me as it’s not an emergency - I dont have something lodged in my eye/my eye hasn’t fallen out. They recommend I’m seen by my GP Option C: I visit petersfield but with a 4.5hour wait and being recommended by staff to contact my GP or to come back at 8am the next day I took myself home. The next day I called the gp surgery and the phone was answered by a miserable receptionist, I explained the situation and they again recommended I visit the urgent treatment centre. So today I tried the other hospital. After a quick triage I was hopeful this wouldn’t take long, 3.5hours later I was seen. After seeing the nurse practitioner she explained there was nothing she could do and questioned why on earth my GP had sent me to the urgent treatment centre. The nurse practitioner then contacted Oaks (lack of) Healthcare, demanded i was seen by a gp and sent over my notes. Super helpful. After a weekend wait I call back on Monday morning, as soon as the clock strikes 8. Number 16 in the queue… great start… The phone is answered by a miserable receptionist grumbling the words ‘Date of birth’. I explain the situation and after multiple interruptions from the receptionist and having to tell her to ‘let me finish my sentence’ I eventually give her a brief run down of the problem. She searched through her emails and said she couldn’t find my notes - hilarious actually as I had a bet they’d lose these… quite hard in the digital era to lose anything yet the GP surgery can still do it. Good old NHS. Anyway, After this kerfuffle ended I have eventually been given a call back today by a clinician, what this means I’m still not quite sure but we’ll find out today and probably be told to ‘contact my GP’ again. To add insult to injury when I asked for a patient review for today I was miss directed to the incorrect website.. Anyway, below is a round up of my experience.. Reception staff seem clueless, nurse practitioner call back doesnt work, why can’t anyone just see a GP anymore? Experience 0/10 Staff friendliness 1/10 Organisational skills (losing notes) 0/10 Staff knowledge 0/10 Fuel wasted (wasted hospital visits) 10/10 Awful service, staff need training and my eye still needs to be sorted.

Review titled Awful and is getting worse

My family and I have been with this surgery for many years. Since Covid it’s really gone downhill and impossible to get past the receptionist unless an absolute emergency. No routine appointments allowed and always advised to call up at 8am (even if you require a routine appointment) however the lines are so full you can’t even get through to the automated service. I did attend the surgery in person to book an appointment and advised they can only be booked over the phone. If you were to actually see a DR treatment is good however it’s impossible to get past reception and always advised to attend an and e or minor injuries. There is no possible way to be able to get a future appointment for something that is not urgent, which is a huge issue eg I was not able to get an appointment for mild stomach pain which turned into appendicitis ending up in hospital. I think policies need to change for doctors to make judgement on appointments and not receptionist and for routine appointments to be booked into the future instead of being advised to try your luck at 8am every day.

The receptionists are the worst, they to me seem to control everything, if you want a Doctor then forget it! Nurses seem to helpful and give you helpful advice! My wife was taken ill one morning, and phoned the practice, only to be told to phone 111, which she did, only helpful thing was 111 phoned the surgery ond told the duty Dr to Phone her, Why does it have to take 111 to get through, this is appalling Behaviour, all I can say whoever takes over from the present Conservative Party, I sincerely hope they make some Improvement to the NHS, As the present bunch hasn’t bothered and let it go! The premises are brilliant, but there isn’t enough GPS, And sadly it’s all gone down badly.

Have been trying for a number of weeks to get an appointment ,can only book one over phone between 8am-10am ,nearly always engaged got through once to be told my Dr, who is only available two days a week was on call so not available ,asked for another Dr but told no other Dr available to deal with a man my age (64) and once was told no appointments left. Tried econsult but as soon as you pick an illness it shuts you down and won't except anything until next day ,does the same next day and the next, receptionists are very unhelpful and don't seem to care .please advise how do you get to see a Dr .was so much better with walk in appointments, that was what made you better than the rest ,now you are so big no one seems to care

Phoned reference blood tests. The usual option was to select a number for blood tests. This has disappeared. I hang on for the usual lengthy wait. After more than 8 mins the first announcement that I am 11 in the queue. After 16 mins I am at caller 4. 23 mins, caller number 1. 27 mins answered. This is typical. Does The Oaks actually care about service and if so how ?

I apologise that you have experienced a longer than usual wait to speak to a member of our reception team; we are currently in the process of recruiting and training new members of the reception team, which can sometimes impact the time taken to answer incoming telephone enquiries as they are supported by their colleagues. We are experiencing a significant rise in incoming telephone enquiries, particularly during the morning period, and are seeing an increase in our service usage, as are most other primary and secondary care NHS providers in the local area. We are working hard to ensure that we answer any incoming queries as efficiently and safely as possible, and providing patients with the best care we have to offer based on the resources and capacity we have available.
