Review titled Terrible practice
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 03 January 2025
It’s been over 2 years since I’ve needed medical help and since then the service has drastically declined. Even though I managed to get an appointment which did surprise me it was with a nurse and not a GP who, having reviewed my symptoms sent me to A&E where I wasted 6 hours of valuable hospital time when I am certain a GP could have assessed and diagnosed. Appalling service, felt like I was palmed off as the nurse (through no fault of her own) could not make a decision.

I have been suffering long COVID since November 2024 and contact the Ivybridge Beacon media group several times using their online consultation. The first time I contacted the group I was seen by a nurse the same day but after that all I got was a message that a GP has reviewed your consultation and will get back to you in 2 or 3 week. If you try to talk to the reception team you get told the same message. It is so frustrating dealing with a illness that hits your physical and mental state and you can't talk to a doctor. When you do they are great and helpful but the wait to talk to them is too long. They need to change their system or hire more doctors. At present i have another 2 week wait to sort out blood tests.

Review titled Mis-led, unhelpful and time wasting
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Kirsty - Posted on 02 January 2025
Submitted an e-consult clearly stating that I needed an assessment for ADHD/Autism for my daughter. Waited 2 weeks for a phone call from a GP who didn't discuss the condition with me and said that I needed to write a letter to the surgery, accompanied by a letter from the school. I was advised that I could not be referred without the letter from the school. Spent weeks gathering info from the school, keeping diaries of behaviour etc etc and wrote a 5 page letter to GP, to then wait another 2/3 weeks for the GP to send me a SMS with a link to self refer on the Livewell website! This was after I requested a call to discuss the next steps and was expecting this in place of a SMS. Could have been told this right at the start, rather than wasting time. Now I have to go through everything that I have already written to the GP again on the Livewell website. This should have been recommended when I first made contact, not months later with no progress. Not happy.

Thank you for the new format of e consult. It is so much easier and straightforward. Also the quick response and referral that followed.

Review titled Absolutely terrible
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Paul - Posted on 04 November 2024
Every single time I ask for an appointment I specifically select the option Email. I do this because of my job, I am not allowed my phone in work. I write it down every time and I also tell you this same story…… every single time you try to call me twice and then I have to redo the online consultation because you failed to read a simple request! The service here is absolutely rubbish, I’ve literally stopped my mental health medication because you…..again did not email me like I asked. But to be honest nobody there really cares anyway! Dreadful service with awful reviews

Dear Paul, Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback on our service. I am sorry to read that you are not happy. Where possible, clinicians will try to adhere to contact requests, but depending on the type of concern, it may not be clinically possible to respond through email and could require further conversation which is best placed over the telephone. If you would like me to look into your mediation further for you please email d-icb.beaconcomplaints@nhs.net with your details so i can respond personally. Thankyou for raising your feedback with us. Kind regards Lauren Patient Liaison and Communication Lead Beacon Medical Group

I miscounted my meds and ran out on a Friday morning, I sent a request via the NHS app and added an asap plea. By lunchtime I had had a text saying it had been done and sent to my chemist. Fab service!

Review titled Patients come last
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 20 November 2024
Wait times for a telephone appointment ate ridiculous (12 days) despite advising the pain I was in. Even then it was a locum! However the locum was at least able to offer next steps but omitted to help with painkillers. I also called to get an appointment for a smear test and was told all the appointments full fir that week so try again the following week. It seems the practice is more about running a business, making money and they have more training days than anything I've ever known! They are not person centred and as a patient I feel I come way down the priority list, so much so that I am going to change practices to one they haven't taken over!

Review titled Good practice

Tge receptionists are polite and efficient. The Doctor's are professional. The issues are, having to complete an on line referral every time you need to make an appointment. You complete all the information requested and when the doctor phones up, they ask you all the same questions that you have already supplied!. Also you recieve a tx message saying you will rscieve a phone call un about 2weeks. So you have to stay at home from 08:00until 18:00 waiting for the phone call, unable to get a shower go shopping or help with child care issues, in case you miss the two 15 second phone calls. Surely a time frame of 2 hours can be given.

Review titled Good practice but poor communication
Rated 4 stars out of 5
by Emma Hobbs - Posted on 20 November 2024
I was due to have a call back, the surgery is aware that my signal is bad in my house and they only try twice there should be another service in place for situations like this your not even given a time for when the gp is going to call so you can't even make time to go somewhere to get signal. I have missed many phone calls due to this reason. And last one being for my 4 year old daughter with hearing problems and still at no wiser as I was unable to speak to gp due to no signal!
