Choosing your data sharing preferences

How the NHS uses data from your health records

Your health records contain confidential patient information, which can be used to help the NHS with research and planning. If you do not want your data to be used in this way, you can opt out. Your confidential patient information will still be used for your individual care.

Viewing or changing your data sharing preferences

You can view or change your current preference at any time.

To view and change your preference in your NHS App:

  1. Go to Your health
  2. Select Your health choices.
  3. Select Choose about your health records data.
  4. Select Make your choice.
  5. Review the information on the page, then select Start now.
  6. View your preference, then select Change if you want to change it.
  7. Update your choice, then select Submit.

Managing data sharing preferences for someone else

You cannot manage data sharing preferences on behalf of someone else using the NHS App or NHS website. Find out how to make a choice about sharing health record data for yourself or someone else.
