  1. Review titled Prompt and appropriate care

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I had a septic little finger which had been bothering me for ten days. On arrival at A&E at Horton in Banbury the staff greeted me promptly, took my details, and asked me to wait. After 40 minutes I was seen by a super nurse who was competent and compassionate. For the medical profession my issue was presumably routine and tiny, but the nurse and the doctor made me feel all-important. After a brief examination the necessary minor op took place. The nurse and doc were incredibly supportive. They then gave me follow up advice and sent me on my way. 10/10.

  2. Review titled Jaw droppingly incompetent

Rated 1 star out of 5

My mother collapsed after being ill a week. She was taken by ambulance to the Horton. They wouldn’t let me in despite her being too unwell to really speak, they said they were too busy to allow me through to advocate for her. They expelled her 6 hours later having left her on sitting upright in a chair all day, saying she had a ‘blood infection’. She collapsed again the following day and was covered in septic rash (blood infection!!) when we got to the JR they could see she’d been x rayed at the Horton and had pneumonia (primary infection). No-one had even told her, let alone me that she had pneumonia! The JR could not believe she’d been let go with infection markers over 240 (they’re supposed to be below 5). The staff at the Horton were rude, dismissive and told her to walk to the pharmacy to get some antibiotics - she could barely say her own name! Honestly she’d be dead if she didn’t have family who had taken her back to a better hospital the following day. I am shocked by how terrible this experience was. Thankfully I don’t live in the UK and have access to much better free healthcare (average a&e wait time of 15 minutes!!), and this experience has made me push my mum to move out with us. To treat someone in their 70’s who was this unwell this badly is just inhumane. If you can, go to the John Radcliffe - you’ll still wait but it’s a much bigger much better hospital with staff who aren’t all straight out of uni with no clue.

  4. Review titled Amazing service.

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I was admitted to the rowan day centre after a g.p visit. The staff were fantastic and took very good care of me from start to finish. This service is fantastic as it aims to prevent admittance to hospital and a&e. Some ailments can be investigated and treated within a day and this service is exceptional. The doctor who looked after me was very reassuring and accommodating. The nurses were efficient and did their best to help. The Rowan day centre is a vital service and I am reassured by it being at the Horton with exceptional staff running it. Thank you so much for taking good care of me.

I have inflammation and irritation in my left eye, having taken some ointment with no results of fixing I went to my local doctors and couldn’t get an emergency appointment without having to go online and speak with a triage nurse to then have to wait for an available appointment I took myself to Horton General A&E I spoke with a nurse who directed me to out of hours GP I waited less than 15 minutes was greeted by a warm GP who was very professional and showed confidence and was very thorough and prescribed me with medication the NHS struggles but I can’t say enough about the service I received excellent experience

  6. Review titled Excellent care

Rated 5 stars out of 5

As part of the bowel screening programme I was called in for a colonoscopy on the 4th December. A procedure I was very nervous about but the staff completely put my mind to rest and I was treated with great care. The phone calls I've had from one particular nurse have been excellent and she has been very approachable and kind. The Horton is an excellent hospital and Banbury should be very proud of having such good facilities in the town. A big thank you to the endoscopy team.

My wife was admitted to Ward F on Wednesday, 7 .Dec Diagnosed and scheduled for operation to fix patella on Thursday 8th and was home on Friday 9. The ward was running like Swiss clock with constant flow of patients and the care was as good and kind as you could hope for even though staff were clearly pressed for time.

  8. Review titled Poor practice

After waiting in reception for a very long time I was called though to the back and told to take a seat. I was informed by a staff nurse that the Dr would see me shortly. An hour and a half later the Dr saw me but she didn't even introduce herself as a Doctor. I had no idea who she was. She dragged her feet and appeared half asleep. This didn't fill me with confidence. I didn't realise she was a Dr until I finished being treated by her.

  9. Review titled Quick, efficient and caring

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Guy Stimpson - Posted on 07 October 2023

I brought my son in who'd fallen and hurt his arm. We were booked in at the reception within a minute and were taken to the children's waiting room, where I expected to wait perhaps 5-6 hours, being a Friday night in a large town, but within an hour my boy was given an X-Ray, and within 2 hours he'd had another X-Ray and a diagnosis - a broken arm. The doctor was extremely friendly and caring, and didn't speak to my son like a baby. He spoke to the patient, not to me (except for details etc), and explained everything carefully and considerately. A cast was fitted very quickly and efficiently, and all of the medical and administrative staff were kind, jovial and helpful. All in all it was 3 hours between entering end leaving, which in today's climate was a really pleasant surprise. This is the NHS we need in this country! My son even said he enjoyed his trip to A&E, although I hope this doesn't encourage him to break his arm again! I hope the staff who were on duty get to read this review, they were all excellent, and should be proud that they're able to deliver the service that they do despite a government seemingly intent on making it as hard as possible for them to do so. Thank you so much.

I had the best care provided by the maternity team throughout pregnancy and delivery. The post delivery care I had was 5 stars. Staff are so attentive and really care for the patients. Thank you to all staff in the maternity unit.
