  1. Review titled Do not use this practice

Rated 1 star out of 5

The practice admits that the GPs need to protect their backs over patient care so have repeatedly failed in their duty of care with me as a patient. They made getting my medication and treatment an ordeal every time I had to ring them up. They only take appointment requests between 8-9am but they are usually full before 9:15am, and yet they insist on the message on the phone line telling you the best way to get an appointment in detail before you can get through - this information is only relevant for 15min out of the day so change it! They don't include patients in the conversation about their care, making unilateral decisions without due regard or care for patients. The nursing staff, however, are lovely. I have left the surgery now as I cannot bare the dire level of care any longer as it is damaging to my mental wellbeing.

Thank you for raising your concerns regarding the Practice and for providing information regarding your experience. Understandably we are not in a position to discuss specific patient matters on this forum and we believe that this matter has already been dealt with separately as per our complaints process. We are sorry that you decided to register elsewhere and we hope that your health needs are met at your new GP Practice. Kind regards, Welbeck Road Health Centre.

  2. Review titled Felt Extremely Let Down

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 03 March 2023

I tried to make an appointment with Welbeck Road Surgery this morning and they had no slots left so asked if I happy to go to Langwith at 4pm. Had no problem with this, happy to stick half a days holiday in with work and drove 40 mins from my workplace. Now the ladies at reception were absolutely lovely and a real credit to the practise. So quick back story I have had back problems for a good 5/6 years (I am only 20). The last time I went to the doctors at 14/15 I was in a lot of pain with my back. I explained the situation and the lady turned round and said it was most likely down to my weight. Now at 14 years old this broke me, I completely understand obesity can cause these kind of health problems but I was never a massive girl. But this really got to me mentally, I struggled with food going forward from that and refused to go to the doctors after that as I’d felt let down and shamed on. So for last 6-12 months my back has got progressively worse, I come back from work in tears most days. I have recently began having spasms down my right side which lead me to shout in pain. Aswell as the pins and needles feeling I experience down at the bottom of my neck and sometimes near my bum. I went to my appointment today and was in and out within 2 minutes. The doctor I didn’t get his name unfortunately. But he didn’t even let me sit down to speak to him. I briefly told him how I felt a few years back and how I’m at the point with my back I’m struggling to do my job, I explained the new symptoms I was showing and he literally turned round and said it is probably down to my weight! He hadn’t even asked me to step on the scales! Never weighed me, he literally just judged me from how I look! I am literally disgusted with how belittled I felt. Now I am 14.5st, I understand it is classed as overweight but I do not believe that is the root to my health problems. This man fobbed me off with 500mg naproxen and sent me on my way. He didn’t even let me get to the chance of saying my dad is currently classed as disabled with his back issues and to which I understand are potentially hereditary. I just feel extremely let down by the NHS and it’s had a massive effect on my mental health. I cried the whole way home. I appreciate GPs are overrun at the minute but who isn’t?

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback to the Practice. As discussed on the phone, the appointment you were provided with at Langwith was not a Practice appointment but was an appointment through a county-wide service of "Winter Hubs" commissioned by the Integrated Care Board (ICB). This appointment has been delivered and provided by DHU Healthcare, not the Practice. As discussed, I have escalated your concern to the management team of DHU Healthcare and provided you with the details to escalate your complaint to their team.

  3. Review titled Poor Practice

Poor Customer Service, the rudest receptionist I have ever known, ongoing issues and they are no help at all. Really gone down hill since the old doctors are no longer there. Takes absolutely ages to get an appointment and then you are fobbed off when you get there, even been asked by the doctor, 'what do you want me to do about it', absolutely shocking. For any new people wanting to join, avoid, avoid, avoid

We are extremely saddened and sorry that you feel this way towards the Practice. We continue to work extremely hard to meet the needs of our patients given the immense stress and pressure the NHS is currently under. We obviously take feedback very seriously and we continue to strive to provide the best possible service to our patients. If you feel as though we are not able to meet your needs then it is your right to register at an alternate GP practice if you wish. We hope that going forward you will find your experiences at the Practice more positive. If you wish to discuss this matter further then please contact the Practice and ask to speak with a manager. Kind regards, The Team at Welbeck Road Health Centre.

  4. Review titled My Concerns

I have had very minor issues with this surgery and have been a patient for over 20 years. I am not a person who attends the surgery frequently but when I do it is normally for a concerning reason. The GP I spoke with recently googled the treatment I needed which did not fill me with confidence. Then, I was offered a routine appointment which was just over 2 weeks away to discuss a new infection my recent pathology results had found. Surely this is not correct and treatment must be initiated straight away? When I filled in an online form to ask this question a same day appointment was booked. Prior to this my experiences have been fine except one receptionist who is not compassionate on the telephone and many family members have commented on this. I don't know if this is a training issue with the clinical and medical staff, but I just wanted to make you aware. Thank you for your time.

  5. Review titled Poor practice

Received a message asking me to make a booking for medication review only to be informed rudely by reception that they weren’t taking appointments in advance and I would have to call on the day I wanted an appointment. My Partner also tried to book when she was there collecting medication but received the same answer. Received another text so called again but on this occasion I can book in advance but not the day I wanted when I was trying to book a month ago. Now I find out that the review will be carried out by a nurse, I’m sorry but what qualifications has a nurse got to deal with a medication review for a heart condition??? The reception staff at this practice are not very nice at all and going on my experiences at this practice, don’t seem to know booking procedures. I also asked for the office manager to contact me regarding this problem and has still not bothered to contact me in the last month. There are other practices in the area and I would suggest potential uses of this doctors surgery should try elsewhere.

  6. Review titled Lack of patient dignity

Rated 3 stars out of 5

I recently attended for a medication review, which was arranged with the pharmacist. As I was called from the waiting room I was surprised and embarrassed to be taken to the back corner of the waiting room to stand on a machine to have my height, weight and blood pressure taken. The waiting room was fairly full and the machine noisy as a loud voice shouted out instructions throughout the assessment. I felt extremely embarrassed throughout the whole experience as I imagined that the waiting room, which up to that point had been silent, was all listening to my examination and looking at me. I don’t know who thought it was a good idea to situate this machine in the waiting area. It offers no privacy whatsoever. Why not put up a screen around it to at least try and make it a bit more private? If I am asked to repeat this at a future appt I will not oblige! I strongly believe that it is not appropriate to have this machine in such a public area. I understand that space is probably limited but that is no excuse for it being in such a spot. I speak as a fellow NHS clinician, and know that in my workplace we would never have such a machine in that position. Oh and also, the pharmacist that then took me to a room for the rest of the appointment and asked me a whole heap of personal questions didn’t introduce himself to me at all and spent the whole consultation looking at the computer screen. Very poor.

Thank you for taking the time to feedback to us, we would like to take this opportunity to apologise for your negative experience at the Practice. We would like to assure you that patients have the choice as to whether they use the Healthcare Monitor (in the back corner of the waiting room) or whether they are taken aside to a different room/area to have their weight, height and blood pressure readings taken. We can only apologise if this was not made clear to you and we will be looking to remind the Reception team to ensure that they make it clear to patients that they have options available. You are correct, we are struggling for space at the Practice, which is one of the reasons we have chosen to situate the Healthcare Monitor at the back of the waiting room. In addition, in response to patient feedback, many have found it more convenient and accessible by being in the waiting room, therefore meaning if patients want to "pop in" to the practice they can obtain their height, weight and blood pressure readings more easily without having to wait for an appointment or to be escorted to a separate room/area. Thank you for your suggestion of a screen, we will be taking this forward and hopefully this will help in achieving a higher level of privacy for our patients. We would also like to assure you that the audio function on the Healthcare Monitor only announces instructions and does not repeat any personal information. By having an audio function on the Healthcare Monitor this ensures that the monitor adheres to the Accessible Information Standard and can be utilised by those patients who may struggle to read the written instructions which also accompany the machine. Thank you for your feedback regarding your consultation, we will be feeding back to our clinicians. Once again, we apologise for your negative experience and if you find yourself needing your weight, height or blood pressure taken at the Practice please do inform the Reception team that you do not wish to use the Healthcare Monitor and they will happily provide an alternative arrangement. We value feedback from our patients and are continuously striving to make improvements to the Practice, thank you again for your comments. Kind regards, the Team at Welbeck Road Health Centre.

  7. Review titled Extremely Poor Reception Staff

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 16 May 2022

Having brought my extremely poorly and elderly husband for a blood test appointment, I approached the receptionist to enquire if the blood could be taken in the car park or some assistance could be provided to help getting my husband into the surgery. The receptionist was short in her response stating that there were no resources to do so, and that I was holding up the queue for covid appointments. I struggled to get my elderly and very ill husband into the surgery. The subsequent dealing with the nurse and then doctor was professional and resulted in a phonecall from the doctor shortly after to admit my husband into Chesterfield Royal, where he is still currently receiving treatment for his condition, awaiting a decision to be transferred to Sheffield Hallam for further treatment. I found your reception staff rude, uncaring and certainly out of line with the mission statement you proudly display. Had I not struggled into the surgery that day and gone home the outcome could have been so much worse. I feel you receptionist staff are poorly trained and uncaring in their approach and should be able to offer more assistance especially to vulnerable patients.
