Review titled Poor communications
Rated 2 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 08 April 2025
Current system of logging everything via online consultation does not provide effective communications. There’s no opportunity for a two way conversation or discussion about a health problem. You may receive a text asking you to make an appointment- but when you try to book it - there are no appointments available. Try talking to a receptionist and they just tell you to do an online consultation - and around you go again. Online consultations may have some benefits but one size does not fit all.

Review titled Online only

Tried to leave a negative review of Silverdale Surgery Burgess Hill, but the review system does not allow bad reviews it seems. So I will attempt again, leaving far less information. Silverdale will force you, or a member of staff on your behalf to use the E-Consult system, an online system owned and run by a private profit making company. I contacted the practice manager asking if I could book an appointment or speak to my GP any other way and was told in no uncertain terms, 'no, our system is great, we love it and all the patients loves it'. The choice and advice I was given by the practice manager was find another surgery!

Review titled Incredible service
Rated 5 stars out of 5

On Saturday, I was in the queue for my flu jab, when someone collapsed. The staff at the surgery reacted so quickly and with great understanding and kindness too, despite the fact that this meant disruption to their flu jab service. The staff then had to deal with a lot if negative feedback as obviously the queue was then delayed. I understand people's frustration and I'm sure the surgery will review the day and make changes for next year, but I am so grateful for all the hard work and dedication of all involved. Many thanks everyone .

Review titled Very unhelpful
Rated 1 star out of 5

I had a nurse's appointment this week. Went to the receptionist desk to book a further appointment, and immediately, 'we don't book them, book them yourself online'. Sat in the waiting room to be called for my appointment, and all I could hear is, 'no can't do that, no we don't do that' with a lot of people looking confused why a receptionist can't book an appointment. Following my appointment and heading out the door, overheard an elderly woman saying she couldn't use her phone to book and could the receptionist book one please, looking very distressed. Receptionist, 'No, you need to book it yourself' I wonder how many people, esp elderly and vulnerable will suffer due to this 'new rule'... It's extremely sad how unhelpful and how unkind the practice has become - and very, very disappointing that the receptionist looked so smug saying no to everyone.

Review titled No lessons learned regarding flu jabs.
Rated 2 stars out of 5

Had a timed appointment for a flu jab, same as last year, arrived before time to find a queue leading out into the carpark. Same as last year but unfortunately repeated and no lessons learned. At least a two hour wait in the cold without access to amenities without losing place in queue. So second year without a jab. This is very poor service. Either spread the appointments out so nurses can cope with demand, or put more staff on. I hope they learn for next year.

I was very nervous going in for my typhoid jab. But the nurse was so accommodating, helpful, and and so friendly. Thank you so much !!

Review titled No help. No compassion. Really worried
Rated 1 star out of 5

It is Friday, and I need an urgent conlultation for recent onset non faecal rectal discharge and abdominal pain . As a retired health care professional I deemed this an fairly urgent and potentially debilitating problem. But also am confident that a course of antibiotics would avert a more serious issue. My medical records would suggest this. I tried to complete econsult at approx 09.00-Econsult service was already closed. At approx 09.40 I tried to obtain a telephone consultation- Non available. I tried on line consultation via patient access- non available. I explained the problem to the receptionist in initially, a calm, rational and pleasant manner finally requesting to secure a face to face appointment on Monday. The receptionist refused to either listen or accomodate. I was instructed, very abruptly to attend crawley walk-in centre or a&e. Given the embarassing and uncomfortable nature of the problem and (of huge relevance), the fact that I do not drive due to an eye defect currently awaiting further opthalmic surgery, and have no one available to take me this would be very tricky. This was all explained to the receptionist.Unfortunalely I was met with a very clipped and unpleasant response. She repeated her advice to go to a&e via public transport. Even if public transport was a viable option, this would require a considerable walk either end of the journey. I do aknowledge the reduction of g.p. services and challenges this generates for both the doctors and distressed patients. But surely a little flexibility for the physically challenged and/or a smidge of human compassion costs nothing. This surgery is devoid of both. There are signs up saying that agressive behaviour toward staff will, quite rightly be deemed unaccepatable. But staff need to understand that patients are often anxious, frightened and in pain. Therefore civility should work both ways. This is a health service after all

Review titled G P Practice in Meltdown.
Rated 2 stars out of 5

We as a family have been with the Silverdale Practice for 59 years since we moved to Burgess Hill and on the whole we have been very well looked after but over the last few years that has changed. Today I managed to get an appointment after trying for two days and then having to visit the surgery, I am a very active 80 year old but many of my age are not and would find it very difficult to get to the surgery just to make an appointment when the other methods have failed. The reason is not clear but it must be caused by multiple reasons, is it poor funding, I think not, not enough Doctors, possibly, lack of organisation, very likely. The website is not fit for purpose, as it does not work, the telephone system is overloaded, therefore is not fit for purpose, appointments have to be made on the day, who thought that one up? making it not fit for purpose, therefore the practice is not available to those in need. Tell us Silverdale what can we do to help the problem, avoiding the sick is not an option, Burgess Hill needs a fully functioning surgery, tell us how we can help.

I’ve been struggling with chest pains heart palpitations, fatigue, dizziness, headaches, nausea ect I went to a and e and they we’re concerned about my heart rate as it was shooting up when I stood up They referred me back to my gp to get a 24 hour heart monitor I went to see my gp he was so uninterested on what I was trying to explain to him The first things he asked me if I was anxious not taking into account my symptoms He didn’t even examine me or check my heart rate or blood pressure He simply sat there and said I need to exercise more I’m not overweight at all I’m a normal weight for my age I explained to him my symptoms have been persistent for 3 months which is preventing me from working After the appointment when I went to reception he asked me if I recorded our conversation which I didn’t do. And said if I wanted to record the appointment I would need to ask for permission I felt I wasn’t Listened to and completely disregarded because of my age I have change gp now hoping I don’t get the same outcome

This surgery has gone downhill over the last year. Our family go left last year, we were never informed she was leaving, given a choice on our new gp or even informed who this is. To get an appointment you have to do an econsult or phone at 8am. Today the same thing has happened to me as has several times before, I tried an econsult as it is not an urgent matter, econsult is not available till tomorrow, I phoned and got a call back after 30 minutes, all appointments for today have gone, call or econsult tomorrow. There is no guarantee I will be able to do either of these then. I’m a carer for my elderly parents who are suffering health issues, being unable to arrange an advance appointment makes it difficult for me to sort out time off work to help them with appointments. The system seems designed to prevent people from seeing a dr. I appreciate that there are targets set but a few appointments in advance surely would work as it always used to with a mix of on the day and future appointments. My mother had a phone call last week from a pharmacist at the surgery saying they would like to put her on statins due to her failing kidneys (first she has heard about this) and high cholesterol, this is based on a blood test she had done 7 months ago which they are only now contacting her about. She has now received these tablets but still not spoken to a dr. This is causing her great anxiety which coupled with a suspected heart condition which she is having tests for and breathing issues is not good, but I am unable to help her speak to dr only to contact surgery each morning first thing in the hope there may still be appointments left and I’ll be able to help her with them if I’m not working (obviously I can’t book time off work to help her on the day as it’s too short notice for my employer) This whole system gets more ridiculous every time I have to contact the surgery.
