  1. Review titled This practice is not fit for purpose anymore

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 09 April 2024

I've been getting migraines with blurred vision with some other symptoms, phoned the surgery was told no appointments available and told me to go A&E, I refused to go A&E and demanded an appointment. They told me to go in straight away. The practise was empty with not one patient in the waiting area.

Dear Patient, Thank you for taking the time to leave this review we appreciate all feedback in the efforts to improve our service. You comment the surgery had no appointments available and you were signposted to attend A&E due to the symptoms you were describing this would be the correct advice to give to safeguard your wellbeing. You state this was on the phone, however, you note no patients were in the waiting room. At points during the day the appointments are telephone calls, therefore, the waiting room would look empty but I can assure you the GP's are working tirelessly. I find the comment not to be very clear if you would like to contact the surgery we will be able to look into this further and provide feedback. We hope to hear from you soon Kind Regards Michelle Island Health Management Team

  2. Review titled Excellent service from doctor the and other staff

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Brian Tash - Posted on 16 April 2024

I continue to receive excellent service from Island Health. Today I saw a doctor, j l, who provided excellent care and I was very pleased with the appointment. He gave me confidence of his knowledge and his understanding of my issues. He spent time in understanding and assessing my concerns and arranging the necessary tests and referrals. The reception staff were also friendly, efficient and helpful and managed to arrange the requested blood test for later the day of my visit. Further, the young woman who undertook the blood test was similarly friendly and efficient. An excellent service and a very satisfied patient.

  3. Review titled Good preventative care.

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Paul Stocks - Posted on 09 April 2024

Now that I'm in my late 50s and reaching the age where things are more likely to go wrong, the surgery is calling me in for regular check ups. They recently alerted me to potential risks with high blood pressure and cholesterol, which I'm trying hard to fix with lifestyle changes to my diet and exercise (and in discussion with the doctors, of course). I really appreciate this early warning -so much better than only finding out after something bad has happened. Prevention really is better than cure!

Dear Paul, Thank you for taking the time to leave this 5 star rating. We are pleased to hear that our recall system for check up has paid off in such a positive way. It is our goal to prevent patients becoming unwell or acquiring long term conditions whereas all was can do is monitor and try to control. We look forward to supporting you in any life style changes you are making. We have recently installed a Patient Pod in the waiting room which can record your BP & BMI please come in and have a try. Thank you again for your recognition Kind Regards Michelle Island Health Management Team

  4. Review titled Disappointed

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Hafiza - Posted on 15 March 2024

I had high expectations for this GP, just registered to a new GP practise today having decided this GP wasn’t meeting my needs. Contacted island health only to be told no appointments available, called 111 thereafter who told me that my GP have appointments available from what they can see on their system. Receptionist then called me back to say some appointments have suddenly become available after 111 contacted them, what is the point of being registered here when they can’t give you appointments when they clearly do have slots available. Been in so much pain and just not bothered because of how bad the GP practise is. Very disappointing.

Dear Hafiza, Thank you for taking the time to leave this review we appreciate the feedback enabling us to improve our services. We are contractually obliged to reserve appointment for the use of 111 services for which the reception staff at Island Health are not authorised to use. From the brief description above the team at 111 felt after hearing your symptoms to be warranting one of the reserved appointments. We are sorry to have disappointed you and sorry to hear you have left the practice and wish you all the best in your new practice. Kind Regards Michelle Management Team

  5. Review titled Extremely difficulty in Booking Appointments with GP

Rated 3 stars out of 5

by Sara - Posted on 15 March 2024

Despite repeated attempts to utilize the online booking system, I have found it to be consistently unreliable and non-functional. As a result, the only available option for booking appointments is to do so in person or over the phone at 08:00. Unfortunately, due to work commitments and credit issues, I am unable to set appointments during this timeframe. I have made multiple attempts to address this issue by sending emails and visiting the practice at alternative times, but each time I have been met with an inability to secure an appointment. This ongoing difficulty in accessing essential healthcare services is unacceptable and has caused undue stress and inconvenience. I urge you to address this matter promptly and implement more accessible and efficient booking systems to better serve patients' needs.

Dear Sara Thank you taking the time to leave this review. We appreciate feedback as it enables us to improve our services. We are sorry you have had a negative experience, the online service as noted on our website as we have a duty of care and need to work within a safe structure is available until we meet capacity, unfortunately, this results in the system being closed early some days. The phone system is available from 8am and you are able to attend the surgery from 8am. Appointments are available here at Island health and also the local hubs which maybe an option to consider to book an appointment in the future. Sending emails requesting appointments is the incorrect pathway and will not be adhered to. We aim to review our booking system later in the year with the view of improvement. I hope this goes someway to explain our system and we hope to do better in the future Many thanks Michelle Practice Manager

  6. Review titled Excellent Practice

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Neil McGarahan - Posted on 12 March 2024

The E-triage system is easy to use, but you have to be quick of the mark at 8am to complete the questionnaire, before the daily allocation of slots are no longer available. The Practice was very quick to respond to my medical query. On arrival at the Practice, the reception staff were courteous and friendly. The Reception/Waiting area was clean and clutter free. The Doctor who saw me was through and reassuring. The advice and diagnosis was easily understood. Island Health has been my GP Practice for 25 years and has always been supportive and professional. Keep up the Good Work.

  7. Review titled Unprofessional, unqualified and understaffed

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Sara - Posted on 21 March 2024

I arrived just five minutes late, yet I had to endure a wait of one and a half hours before seeing the GP. This experience has highlighted a glaring issue of understaffing among the medical team. Additionally, the receptionists appear to lack the necessary qualifications, resulting in unprofessional service. This was just one experience out of many samples, suggesting a systemic problem that needs addressing urgently. The situation is quite scandalous and leaves much to be desired in terms of patient care.

Dear Sara Thank you for taking the time to leave this review. We appreciate the feedback enabling us to review and improve services. We are sorry you have had a negative experience here at Island Health. From the brief description above the issues seems to have arisen from arriving late for your appointment, we do advise patient to arrive at least 10 minutes before your appointment time. When arriving late it is the doctors discretion if they will uphold the appointment or ask the patient to rebook. In this instance the doctored honoured the appointment but was unable to slot you in quickly. We are sorry you had such a long wait but are pleased you were seen and did not have to return on another day. The reception team are constantly evolving, learning and partake in customer service training. If you would like to discuss these issues in more depth please contact the management team and we will be happy to speak to you Kind Regards Michelle Practice Manager

  8. Review titled Fantastic doctor

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Stephanie Champion - Posted on 26 March 2024

My GP took her time to really explain all recent test results. Excellent care. She also explained how she will follow up and send referrals. I was really pleased with the explanation and she even sent me follow up notes to help understand more.

  9. Review titled Poor follow up

Rated 3 stars out of 5

by Jega - Posted on 12 February 2024

No follow up over last 2 months on blood tests, urine tests and echo cardiogram. Have to chase up reception for results. Mostly allocated telephone appointments with a different doctor each time (with limited history of past care and long term issues). No named gp allocated after original doctor retired. Poor communication from surgery

Dear Jega Thank you for taking the time to leave this review we appreciate any feedback provided to learn and improve our services. Unfortunately, I am unable to look into your records, however, I can provide assurance that were blood tests abnormal the surgery wold contact you & arrange an appointment for review within 2 weeks this maybe with a different GP but they have access to all your medical records. ECG's carried out within the surgery patients are given the results on the day and those carried out within a hospital setting the hospital should provide the results. I am not aware of named GP's allocated to a retired GP if you could provide you full name by contacting the surgery I would be happy to look into this. Going forward to view your results you can now register with the NHS appt enabling you to see all results. For tests carried out in secondary care I believe they have an app you could register to to view tests taken at the hospital please ask them for the correct app details. We would like to consult with all our patients undergoing test, however, due to the high workload we are unable to do so and concentrate on those who's results are abnormal and needing follow up. Should you need any assistance with installing the app please do not hesitate to come in and see us. many thanks Michelle Island Health Management Team

  10. Review titled impossible to get an appointment

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Abdelrahman - Posted on 18 January 2024

Impossible to get an appointment, called on different occasions but the normal response is to call 111 or call us back later, the what is the point of having a GP, 100% useless.
