Review titled Completely ignorant

Did not book an appointment but was telephoned by this surgery and told to report for an initial consultation. Telephone operator and receptionist could barely speak comprehensible English, and the doctor I saw did not have much better a command of the language, and I often had difficulty understanding them. On my first and only appointment the doctor went through their own checklist of prescribed questions which they had obviously been instructed to ask, none of which were germane to the reason I had agreed to be seen, and which the doctor explained were age-appropriate. The doctor took my blood pressure three times, and commented that it was slightly high, but within the normal range, which is exactly what every doctor has ever told me throughout my adult life. The doctor's ensuing questions mainly concerned lifestyle and heart health, and were leading insofar that they presumed some sort of regularity and routine to my lifestyle habits which I simply do not follow. The questioning about my testicular health was simply bizarre. When I finally had the opportunity to explain that I was troubled with unusual headaches for some months and was taking painkillers, the doctor entirely ignored me and proceeded with the next irrelevant questions on their list. After completing their questions, the doctor gave me a percentage probability of heart trouble in the next ten years, and then I knew for certain that they were a quack. I have never had heart trouble, I had not complained about heart trouble, and either I will have heart trouble in future or I won't; there is either a 100% probability of it or a 0% probability of it, there is nothing in between, no roll of the dice, and without directly examining my arteries and heart an astrologer is as likely as any doctor to know whether or not I will have heart trouble in future. This invented statistic appeared to be deliberately designed to alarm me into compliance with some undisclosed agenda for which I simply have no health requirement. The doctor then used the pretext of this invented future heart trouble in order to instruct me to take regular blood pressure readings at home, and then seemed surprised that I do not have such a facility at home. They then suggested that I regularly report to the surgery for blood pressure checks instead, even though my blood pressure is within the normal range. Finally the doctor printed off a sheet of paperwork, and after some confusion I finally understood that I was to take it to a pharmacy having not eaten beforehand, where the pharmacist would take a blood sample from me for testing. Possibly I am to expect a stool sample kit in the post which I am to return. It was pointless attempting to communicate my misgivings to the doctor on account of their poor command of English, and so I politely thanked the doctor, left the surgery and put the blood test paperwork into the first litter bin that I saw. I am now looking for another surgery but don't expect any better.

I have received excellent service and kindness from an individual who takes pride and sincerity in her work. She has given me nothing but her best for over 25 years working at Edgwick Medical Centre and for this I am extremely grateful. Hats off to her! There has been times when I have needed my prescription promptly and she has ironed out any issues and made sure I have received my medication through my prescription on time. She speaks bio lingual, which is always helpful. She is a very polite and a professional individual. I feel we need more people like her working for the NHS customer service. Review from a very satisfied and happy patient. Well done.
