  1. Review titled Trying to see a doctor

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Mrs d foy - Posted on 10 January 2024

I’ve been with this surgery my whole life(52yrs)and now I feel I no longer have a doctor to go to. The phones are not answered- they say we are busy ring back later. If you finally manage to get in the queue after waiting 45 minutes to an hour you are told there are no appointments and to try your luck tomorrow or in my case very ill with a chest infection and also asthmatic they told me to ring 111 on speaking to 111 they said to phone my doctor back as they cannot help me if my doctors is open. I did an e consultation as I was desperate- I just needed someone to help me- but they messaged me back saying I was too ill and needed to see a doctor and to phone the surgery again. I phoned the surgery again- third time lucky- but alas I was told to phone again tomorrow despite pleading with them. They said I should go to a walking clinic. So I feel like I no longer have a doctors as they just don’t see anyone anymore. Also I have asthma and have not seen an asthma nurse in 4 yrs-apparently they can assess how I’m doing over the phone and no longer need to see you to check your breathing etc.

Dear Mrs Foy Thank you for taking the time to leave your comments on NHS Choices, we welcome all feedback for the surgery. I understand that in my absence you have spoken with the Assistant Practice Manager and she has explained and resolved your concerns. May I add my apologies for the frustration and upset getting through to the surgery has caused, we are doing our utmost to meet exceptional demand however it remains currently very high. I can confirm we have recruited 4 GPs and an Advanced Nurse Practitioner which will hopefully ease the situation. Once again, thank you for your feedback, it is appreciated. Kind Regards Linda Thompson Practice Manager

  2. Review titled Wasting time chasing referrals

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Steven Chowney - Posted on 12 September 2023

After being referred by my doctor for a drop-in chest x-ray, I visited the clinic 12 days after my appointment only to discover the referral had not been sent. Assuming the problem could be simply resolved, I rang the GP from the waiting room. However, I was told I had to call back in a couple more days to chase it up again. If my doctor had said "wait two weeks, then ring us to make sure it's gone through" I would have thought that was odd. To have to do that without being told first is absurd. This can't possibly be how the system is supposed to work. What's going on?

Dear Mr Chowney Further to our conversation yesterday, please accept my sincere apologies for any inconvenience caused. I can see from the system that an error was made and from listening to the call that you were provided with incorrect information by a less experienced member of the reception team. As discussed, we have now rectified this for you and feedback has been provided. Thank you for your understanding. Kind Regards Linda Thompson Practice Manager

  3. Review titled Shocking state of NHS/very ill but can't get appointment

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 24 August 2023

I feel ill with heart problems which I had before and managed to get an appointment in 5 weeks! I was given the option to go to a walk in center at the other side of Leeds or call every morning at 8am. If I am lucky and I get through before all appointments are gone, I can get one on the day. I have no energy and can't talk properly, but the woman accused me of shouting at her! I ended up cryinging. Very unfriendly and not helpful staff.

Dear Patient Please accept my apologies that you have had problems obtaining an appointment. I would be happy to discuss this with you in person or over the telephone. Our GP appointments go on the system generally 4 weeks in advance and we have routine appointments to book 2 weeks in advance up to a few days in advance, so I am unsure why you would be offered an appointment 5 weeks in advance unless it was for a blood test or some long term condition appointments with a nurse or Health Care Assistant. Our reception staff will ask questions to establish the best clinician or practitioner suited to your condition, such as a pharmacist, physio or social prescriber. If a GP appointment is required the staff will offer the advice of calling NHS 111 or visiting a walk in centre as a further form of support if we are full. Our demand is exceptionally high and we do our best on a daily basis to meet that demand however we are unable to offer unlimited appointments as this would be unsafe. I am sorry you didn't feel the staff were helpful and that they were unfriendly that is certainly not our intention. If I can be of further assistance, please do get in touch. Kind Regards Linda Thompson Practice Manager

  4. Review titled Poor Appointment System!

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 07 July 2023

I waited for over half an hour on the phone to eventually talk to the person at the other end who told me there are no other appointments and I should seek a walk in centre! Other times I have waited with the call count down, for the line to go dead when its my turn. Not impressed at all!

Dear Patient I have responded to this review previously, unsure why this is not showing on the system. Please accept my apologies for the problems encountered getting through to the surgery. Demand is exceptionally high and the reception staff answer the calls as efficiently as possible without rushing patient's who may need extra time or support. The telephone system can hold a set number of patients in the queue however for volumes above 60 in the queue it will cut off patients and ask to phone back later. I am sorry that the line went dead before your turn, I am unsure why this would happen however I can assure you that reception staff do not cut off patients. If you wish to discuss, please feel free to contact the surgery and I would be happy to do so. Kind Regards Linda Thompson Practice Manager

  5. Review titled Poor service

Rated 3 stars out of 5

by Frederick - Posted on 13 April 2023

Attended for annual blood tests. received message from surgery withing 8 hours stating "Results received, contact surgery". When I rung the surgery was told I needed to make an appontment with GP to discuss results. Why? Could someone with medical training not ring patient if results were abnormal, this would stop patient worrying about the result. Was initially offered appointment with GP in two weeks. Declined. Contacted practise manager only to be told they could make GP appointment in 5 days. Declined this offer also. Not a very efficient system.

Dear Frederick I have previously responded to this review on more than one occasion so unsure why it is not showing as a response has been received. Please accept my apologies that you are unhappy with the service provided by the practice. The GP will ask for an urgent appointment to be made if the results are of an urgent nature, this was not the case on this occasion and therefore two appointments were offered and both refused. I am sorry the appointments were not deemed suitable, demand is exceptionally high and we are doing our best on a daily basis to meet demand. I believe you spoke to the assistant practice manager, therefore if you wish to discuss in person with me, I would be happy to do so. Kind Regards Linda Thompson Practice Manager

  6. Review titled Swift Professional Decision & Excellent Care

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Pearl Davison - Posted on 15 February 2023

I visited the surgery at 5pm yesterday and was seen by one of the doctors who was very professional knowledgeable & followed up a concern with ENT (ears, nose, throat) promptly to get me an appointment that day. I was admitted to ENT at 6.30pm and by midnight I had been discharged from their clinic with treatment for infection & a quinsy (which the doctor thought it was!) The doctor gave me a letter to take which was helpful for the assessing team. Without that prompt response, I would have got worse and the condition could be life threatening if left untreated so just wanted to say thank you. The swift prompt care with the urgency it required meant I didn't need to wait long hours in A&E, in pain. It has made me appreciate the NHS and how lucky we are to have an amazing GP surgery here in Armley.

  8. Review titled Lovely practice

Rated 4 stars out of 5

by Christine Tomenson - Posted on 05 December 2022

I have been a patient with this surgery for about 50 years. I have always recieved the best support and the staff are always welcoming. In recent years when all my friends were complaining about how hard it was to get an appointment with their doctors at other surgeries, I would always boast that I could always get through on the phone and always got an appointment quickly. I was very proud of the surgery. Unfortunately, the surgery has succumbed to the same procedures as all the rest now and I find myself in the same predicament as my friends. The telephone line is always engaged, no on line appointments available. I do not know what the answer to the problem is, but surely, if a system is not working you need to look for a solution to provide a better one. I don't like to complain as I appreciate that you do a wonderful job overall and been tested to your maximum over the past few years.

Dear Mrs Tomenson Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback via NHS Choices. I have responded previously however my response was not logged on the system, please accept my apologies; I am unsure why that would be the case. Firstly, I would like to thank you for your positive feedback regarding the surgery it is pleasing to hear that in general you are happy with the service provided. We do continually review our appointment system and have made significant changes since the start of the New Year. Our phone lines are still very busy however there are more appointments available to book on the day either a telephone or face to face appointment. The downside to this is that there are less routine appointments to book in advance however we are finding patients prefer to book on the day the majority of the time. We are still recruiting reception staff, so again this should ease the situation however we have only so many phone lines to be answered. I will also review the number of online appointments available on a daily basis to ensure we have the correct level available. I am sorry you have had difficulty making an appointment in the past however I am hopeful that this has improved in recent weeks. We will continue to review our ways of working on a regular basis to continually improve. Thank you once again for sharing your feedback and if I can be of further assistance, please feel free to get in touch. Kind Regards Linda Thompson Practice Manager.

  9. Review titled Great practice and incredible staff

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Lucie Cerna - Posted on 22 November 2022

My name is Lucie i have been the manager at Beech Hall which is not far from the practice i have been the manager for over 2 years and have worked closely with Armley moor and its staff for these years, i can not thank the staff and practice enough for the support they have given over the years they go above and beyond for each and every one of our residents and provide person centred care to all residents living in our care, nothing is too much for them and and they are always happy to support, including those who came and supported us on our Scarborough trip this year, without having the support from the health professionals that joined us some of our residents would not of been able to go, we are always so thankful for them, each and every person you speak to are supportive and exceptional, it is that much of fantastic practice i have even become a patient there and i receive the same care and attention as my residents do.

  10. Review titled Top Doctors

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 04 November 2022

have been a patient at Armley for years and can not think of any other surgery I would like to use. Unfortunately I have to use their services more than I would like and this frustrates me as I often feel like I will never get better well maybe improve not better and this really stresses me out. The doctor I currently see and have done for the last few years I can not thank enough. She always recommends medication that will help and she checks I am okay. I am not the best at explain things so don't make it easy but most of the time she understands me, she makes feel really comfortable so don't get too nervous. I believe that she would go out of her way to help anybody and genuinely cares. God knows where I would be without her. I struggle with communication sometimes miss understand things on a daily basis but the practice manger is amazing at explaining things. She clearly wants to make this doctors the best it can be and wants to help all patients. A few years ago I had an infection and ignored it until it got worse. The surgery was closed as it was the weekend so I sent an email I didnt expect anything until the following week but I got an email Sunday afternoon and by Monday I had some antibiotics. Doubt I would get that anywhere else. You can't please everybody but I know the manager really wants to There is also a nurse there who is lovely, she has patched me up many times. She is really kind, I always ask for her.She did pull me up on something last visit which I stewed on for a bit but she was right I had help from a social prescriber and I really warmed to her, she helped me with a phone call and spoke for me when got stuck. There is many other staff there who I am sure they are just as good. One GP who I didnt really take to and knows this had to see me for a while and even though he knew I was not too keen he looked after me. One instance that sticks with me was when he agreed to contact somebody for me, I hadn’t even got home before he called me to say he had tried they were not available but would keep me updated. I was very grateful and was really impressed with that Thank you Armley for looking after me and doing what you can to make sure I have the pain relief I need

Dear Patient Thank you so much for the very kind and thoughtful feedback and for taking the time to enter your comments on NHS Choices, it is much appreciated. You are absolutely correct in saying we want the best for all our patients here at the surgery, sometimes circumstances beyond our control mean we do sometimes struggle to provide the very best service 100% of the time however we do our utmost. I will ensure your feedback is passed on to the practice team. Thank you again. Kind Regards Linda Thompson Practice Manager
