  2. Review titled Seeing regular doctor

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Alan Whitehouse - Posted on 01 December 2023

I have been registered with this surgery for just over twelve months and have never been more disapointed with a surgery in my life. My biggest complaint ( one of many ) is :- I have visited the surgery about 10 times and never seen the same doctor twice and each time I have to go through my problem again and again as the doctor has not read my notes. Many times I get a different diagnosis. I am a volunteen driver and take many people to hospital and most people want to moan about the Brewood surgery but will not complain as they mainly in their 80's and don't know how to. When are we going to get regular doctors at this surgery ??????

Dear Mr Whitehouse, Thank you for your comments. Your feedback has been noted. We are sorry to hear that you feel you have experienced a poor service. Clinicians have to prioritise what they can do in a 10 minute appointment, and it is impossible to review all the notes of any patient in the time available. In a 10 minute appointment, around 7 minutes of contact time with yourself makes the bulk of the appointment, 2-3 minutes to write up notes etc. This leaves little time to read all your notes. Most clinicians will use the first minute or so to look at your notes, your summary and read the last consult or two and call you in. However, we accept that in an ideal world the clinician would have read all of your notes and letters etc but this requires unlimited time and unlimited clinicians and unlimited space to house the clinicians. Clinical opinions also build and change over time and so diagnoses may be different for different symptoms patterns. We would prefer to discuss your clinical concerns directly and suggest you contact us directly about your diagnoses. It would seem that there is mismatch in what you have you stated in terms of numbers and what we believe to be correct. This factual inconsistency is concerning and would like your written permission to state what we believe to be correct publically as what you state does not match with our records. We actually do have regular doctors at this surgery. However, Doctors are not the only clinicians we have. As per national direction of travel additional roles are doing a large bulk of the work due to shortages of doctors in general, ultimately supervised by a GP. We have long serving GPs, ACPs, Nurse, Nurse Prescriber, HCAs, MSKP, UCPs etc all of whom regularly work at the surgery. Of note is that we have struggled to recruit GPs despite adverts being out. Untrue comments suggesting we do not have regular doctors do not help in recruitment. You may feel that you should see a GP, and only a specific GP, however this is impractical as a GP could be on leave or not work a particular day and indeed the GP may be needed to see more complex cases whereas your conditions could be managed by an alternate health care worker with GP input if required. I assure you however, that we have been working on an improved triage model and will be streamlining access to the service whereby patients will get the right appointment to see the right person/right type of clinician for their condition. Once in place, if your condition warrants seeing a GP and indeed a specific GP, then you will get that appointment. On behalf of The Senior Management Team

  3. Review titled Pretty abysmal

Rated 1 star out of 5

Some recent examples of how bad this medical practice is: - Waited for over 20 mins on hold even though I was caller number 1 the whole time. - Getting a repeat prescription takes 3 days to a week even when marked urgent. A carer visited and called the surgery to check the status of the prescription and was told it would be processed same day (it wasn’t) and we would get a call when it was ready (we did not). - Did not return multiple calls for clarification on a referral. - Have yet to get a Dr visit a month after being discharged from hospital despite being completely housebound with chronic health issues - they send a paramedic instead. Not sure if the issue is too many (older) patients for the number of doctors, the doctors or the office staff, but the end result is that the level of service is inadequate.

  5. Review titled Not so great practice

Rated 1 star out of 5

When I called to try and make an appointment with a doctor instead of being asked my name, very abruptly I was asked for my date of birth. After being fobbed off at first to see a nurse I did eventually get an appointment but I was unable to finish my conversation as she cut me off. I would like an explanation as to why there is no decent communication skills between patients and your staff. It is a shame that also there is no continuity in seeing the same doctor for follow up appointments if a further appointment is needed inevitably you cannot see the same g.p. As seen previously so the symptoms have to be gone through again and in some cases a different diagnosis is given, this is not good for patient peace of mind. I would appreciate some comments on this and also make sure your staff are trained in good communication skills as sometime tact and empathy is required. Many thanks

  6. Review titled Appointment mistake

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Anita Lowde - Posted on 24 August 2023

Whilst at the surgery earlier this week I was asked to book a blood test, as my underactive thyroid function is not being monitored consistently. I made this whilst there, and was pleased it would be the Thursday that week, I wrote it into my diary on my phone immediately, I arrived at the surgery on the day (on crutches with a protective boot on my foot after falling down the stairs 2 days previous) I could not find my appointment, so went to speak to the receptionist, after being left to stand and wait whilst she went out back to speak to someone else for a patient (it was clear to see I was struggling to stand and wait) upon speaking to her she tells me my appointment is the following Thursday at the same time. No acknowledgment a mistake had been made, no offer to try and resolve, no empathy as it was clear to see the effort I had made to get there on crutches. Her whole demeanour was one of indifference and unfriendliness. I asked can anyone else help, she shrugged her shoulders and shook her head "no" This is not the first time I've encountered issues (samples not sent to lab, then missing, calls not returned, sent on a goose chase with prescriptions, unhelpful and border rude attitudes from the ladies fronting the reception. I don't feel good writing this (for all it will do) I've held my tongue many times, but it gets to the point when you can no longer. Shameful to treat people who are poorly with such disrespect.

  7. Review titled Difficult times

Rated 4 stars out of 5

I want to commend the staff at brewood surgery, in the past we have had some issues when daughter came home from uni and needed to re register urgently for repeat prescription. Got there in the end but wasn’t an easy start. My personal experience first time in 18 months was an acceptable level. I called for an appointment and agreed to be called back. Called when they said they would and helped by agreeing to prescribe before an appointment may or may not be required. The lady who answered appeared sharp at the start but then warmed when I started telling her my problem in a clear and kind manner. Clear instructions ensued and we were both happy and friendly from start to finish. Thank you. You get treated well if you treat people with respect. It works both ways.

  8. Review titled Receptionist

Rated 3 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 03 April 2023

Not a pleasant experience this morning from one of your receptionists, I had to call with an enquiry about a repeat prescription (the surgery sent the wrong thing to the chemist) The receptionist basically told me not to phone the surgery about repeat prescriptions as I was holding up the phone line! She said being as it was their fault she would rectify it this time, her attitude was awful! The medication was needed urgently for someone very ill.

  9. Review titled Poor service

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Gary Thompson - Posted on 24 February 2023

Poor service considering I am paying £50.00 for a form to be filled in by a doctor. Took the relevant form into the doctor over 2 weeks ago ,but unfortunately I had to chase up where the surgery was with regards to the form. After a second call to the surgery this week I am told the form could still take 2 to 3 weeks to be completed, even though I am paying for this service. Obsolete shocking service
