  1. Review titled Broken System

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 20 November 2024

I have been trying to see my new doctor since my previous doctor retired. I am told that only the doctor can book an appointment post a telephone consultation. Since my previous doctor retired I have not seen, or been told, who my new doctor is. Telephone appointments have been with locums who haven't been particularly helpful. I have long covid, type2 diabetes and possibly, arthritis. During my treatment for long covid it was suggested that new research states that long term use of metformin is likely to have some adverse effects and I should see my doctor to review this. After waiting about 2 weeks for the telephone appointment, the locum was dismissive of this, told me to go for blood tests then see my doctor to discuss. I had the tests done the next day and received a call from the surgery a couple of days later. Although told to see my doctor by the locum, again i had to book a telephone appointment! This was another 2 weeks away and again, only during this call could the doctor book an appointment for me to come in and talk with them. So, at the earliest it will be 5 week wait to see a doctor! I strongly feel this is a case of profit before patient. We are not in the midst of a pandemic so all this system does is add delay and is a poor reflection of what is supposed to be a primary care provider to the public. Pre-pandemic the system worked well so why are we not able to return to it?

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback on your experience. I am concerned to hear that you are not aware of who your usual GP is as we should have contacted you regarding this. Our practice has a usual GP system for continuity of care for patients, we try where possible to book patients with their usual GP. I am sorry to read that you haven't yet spoken to your own GP. We can look into this for you if you are happy to email us with your personal details at the following address d-icb.beaconcomplaints@nhs.net. Demand for healthcare services is growing this means there is a wait for appointments. We reserve a number of appointments each day for urgent clinical presentations, routine appointments are offered as they are available- unfortunately there is a wait. Most practices across the country have changed the way care is delivered from pre pandemic, this is due to increased demand. We do offer face to face appointments, these are based on clinical need and will be offered to you by your GP or clinician if is felt needed. If you feel you need to be seen face to face you can mention this during the call with the GP. I am sorry that we aren't able to see you sooner. I note that you have spoken to a GP about your medical concerns and a follow up has been arranged for you, if your condition changes and becomes more urgent please contact us. We would like to check that you have an appointment with your usual GP and to inform you directly of who your usual GP is. If you could send us your details via email we can assist with this. Thank you for your feedback and we hope you get what you need from your appointment.

  2. Review titled They didn’t even contact me

Rated 1 star out of 5

I was told I’d get a phone call the same day. No call. I called, then the dr messaged me to ask for pictures. I sent pictures and that was it. Nothing further. Two weeks later still nothing. Yet they wonder why the ED is so over run!?!?! I know exactly why.

More or less on time, the Doctor was very thorough and more importantly I felt relaxed. I have to wait now for Blood Results.

  4. Review titled Pleasantly surprised

by Anonymous - Posted on 28 November 2024

Thankfully, I have little cause to "bother the doctor" very often. Recently I had a reoccurrence of anxiety, persistent tiredness and low mood (probably due to work burn-out). I recognised the signs and sought help via e-consult. If I had one criticism, it would be the time length from submission to phone call (14 days), however, I appreciate that my condition is not life threatening and I have sought help before, so I know I'm not a priority case. When I got to speak with the GP, I found him to be upbeat, a good listener, sympathetic (to my decision to avoid meds if possible for one thing) and he must've read my notes (I have a history) as he had no hesitation in signing me off work, with an additional instruction to ask for a fit note extension if needed without further consultation; he understood full well that anxiety/depression are not fixed overnight. I have self referred for CBT(as recommended), which I've had in the past, but am still waiting for an initial assessment (so will need an extension on the fit note). The GP also requested a blood test. I found the booking experience for that and surgery experience to be efficient and friendly (strange to see an empty surgery!) and thankfully I have discovered that my test result is normal, just two days after the test. So, all things considered, a positive experience. Hopefully I'll be able to start the CBT soon (probably not until after Christmas!), but meanwhile, the "prescription" of time off work is helping and was clearly much needed. Thank you to all who I encountered.

  5. Review titled Worst practice I've come across

Rated 1 star out of 5

No phone call from my named GP as promised after seeing the medical practitioner person. I appreciate that they cover a large area but the organisation needs some work. Feels like you changed to a new system and just cleared your list and rely on us to chase it.

  6. Review titled Brilliant practice

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Joanne - Posted on 08 October 2024

The appointment was for my 7 year old son and he can be quite anxious about things like doctors but the doctor we saw was absolutely amazing. She put my son at ease within minutes and she completely included him and asked him relevant and age appropriate questions. She asked his permission before she did anything and throughly explained what she was going do and if a medical instrument was used she explained what is was for, how it would feel and what sensation to expect. The examination was around his ears which ate really sensitive. Amazing doctor

  7. Review titled Disappointing

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 30 October 2024

Waited two weeks for a call back about an issue. GP called and then proceeded to do something else telling me to hold the line! Listened to my issue and sent me information online to read which didn’t relate to my issue and I could have done myself. Waste of time.

  9. Review titled Very supportive

Rated 5 stars out of 5

    by M COLTHAM - Posted on 23 October 2024

Am always impressed with how hard everyone tries to help. These difficult times make it hard for the generally very helpful front line clerical staff, Drs and medical staff to provide care. I contacted practice regarding an infection which has recurred on several occasions causing severe discomfort. I was listened to called back and the necessary appointments and advice was provided.
