Review titled Yet another cancelled appointment

I am supposed to receive a B12 injection every 12 weeks booked my latest appointment before Xmas and was informed would be on 10/01/24 at 1450 this was cancelled at 0807 on the 10/01/24 and a new appointment made for 1600 on 11/01/24 on speaking to receptionist she told me no appointments available until 22/01/24 this is 10 days over I explained having already had this problem every time I request my injection and the senior doctor in the practice assured me it would not happen in future in October 2021 she again informed me no nurse appointment available. I then requested a doctor's appointment so I can receive this injections to which she replied appointments not available until tomorrow and to apply on my GP app. I tried to go on the my GP app but it is not running. I feel as though I am flogging a dead horse been with this practice for 34years and now it is time to move on

I would advise everyone never to consider registering with this GP surgery. They have to be the worst surgery in the Uk that think they can treat patients with utter contempt. The surgery has far too many receptionists sitting doing nothing who consider they can be as difficult as possible with patients who simply want to make an appointment to see their GP who has not seen them now for over three years.

I don't think they do treat patients with 'utter contempt' but I will speak to them to make sure that they are mindful of how they communicate with patients. This practice used to be good, however, in the last few years has become a terrible place to be registered. The online Patches form is a bad system because you have no idea when the GP is going to call you, not even a window of time. So you just need to be waiting by the phone at all hours of the day. You can't request a face to face appointment at all. I have had a particularly bad experience with one doctor who is extremely condescending and rude but you can't choose who your form gets assigned to so you have no choice in who your doctor is, unlike under the previous system. I understand that the NHS is under a lot of pressure and must be a difficult place to work at times but this practice seems determined to put people off from requesting medical support. Some of the receptionist staff are incredibly kind and helpful people whereas others are brusk and treat you like a nuisance. Your experience is completely determined by who you interact with and unfortunately can leave you with a terrible experience.

Thanks for taking the time to give us some feedback. Firstly, I'm so sorry to hear that you've not been satisfied with your experiences of the practice. If you want to raise anything specific with me, please do contact me at ashville.surgery@nhs.net and I will look into this. With PATCHs, patients are given an estimation of when their query will be dealt with, but I appreciate it can be frustrating. We are hoping that we can improve the messaging that goes out to patients once they've submitted a PATCHs. Of course, it does depend a lot on the volume we've received on any given day. I'm also sorry to hear that you've had mixed experiences of the staff here (both clinical and non-clinical). I will remind the team that good communication with our patients is essential. After arriving today for an 10.45 appointment , By the time I got to The reception I was told that I was too late And had to make another appointment. I wasn't happy about this. I think The receptionist could've let me check in, The rapid check in machine wasnt working so by the time I got to The receptionist it was 10.55

I have had excellent experiences with Ashville Surgery, whether with the medical staff in person or over the phone, and with the support staff at the desk. In particular, I had a very lengthy and debilitating respiratory infection lasting several months and received excellent care. This site does not allow me to name individuals, but I am grateful to several members of the practice. Thank you!

Ashville surgery have been an exceptional GP practice for the management of all medical issues for myself and family. Most recently to support with the management of my 3 year old’s eczema. Their approach is consistently patient-centred and holistic. I always feel listened to and involved in decisions about mine or my daughter’s health. Despite the challenges of the pandemic, Ashville surgery continues to provide high quality, professional and timely care in all circumstances. Ask my GP is a great service for many situations, but there is always a face to face appointment available when appropriate. I have only every had positive experiences and would recommend them to anybody.

I received a message from the surgery stating I was entitled to a Flu vaccination and to use the website to book the appointment. I did this and was told my appointment was at 10:05am on 24th September 2022. I turned up in plenty of time to find the place awash with individuals queueing down the street. Seems the 10:05 was only a guestimate as to when I would be seen. I received a second message stating I was also eligible for a Covid-19 booster but was not required to make a separate appointment merely to ask the nurse doing the flu jab. Effective communication is a key aspect of healthcare delivery, but it was seriously flawed in this instance. Now seems there are no online appointments to rebook.

Ever since I’ve been registered with Ashville Surgery, I’ve received consistently great healthcare. They genuinely care - from the tri-lingual receptionists who patiently explain procedures with new patients to the gentleness and humour of their nurses dealing with needle phobias. An amazing practice!
