Review titled Prescription team
Rated 4 stars out of 5

After calling to book a medication review, the lady I spoke to was really friendly and helpful. She was very quick at getting it all sorted as well. There is a long wait for the actual appointment (which seems to be the normal at that surgery) but the service I received from her was exemplary

Review titled Does the left hand know what the right is doing?
Rated 2 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 15 January 2025
Had tests doen about a month ago. Tests results were ok. Get a call weeks later telling me that a doctor needs to call me about one of the results. No other information given by the person who called me. Informed them that the tests were ok but was told someone (who knows who) will call me the p.m of the next day. No-one called. This practice used to be really good. What a shame.

Review titled Transferred me from another surgery which I hadn't requested
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Anne - Posted on 05 April 2025
I was quite happy at Turner Road after leaving this surgery however without my consent/request or signature they sent an email to deregister me from them and I get an email saying I'm registered with Ambrose again. Contacted 3 times always promised someone will call back and now in March still no answers.... awful service!!!

Review titled Dishonest
Rated 1 star out of 5

My youngest had an urgent referral. I requested a private referral as there was no firm time for his consultant appointment and there was a private appointment at a local hospital available in a few days. When the referral was ready, the surgery contacted my ex instead. Upon collection they were told they weren’t allowed the referral letter, and that we couldn’t go private as “private hospitals don’t do that”. I called again, and was told that there was a mistake and letter would be ready today. I called to check that it was being done and was told I needed to get my child to call instead - who was at school - as they realised they needed consent. We went in person, where I was told that no referral had been written and there was no note saying it needed to be done. The available private appointment is tomorrow and I’ve been told to call in the morning to once again ask for a private referral. It’s taken nearly a week. Needless to say we’ll be registering elsewhere.

Review titled Generally a great practise
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Rebecca Race - Posted on 06 January 2025
I visited the practise the other day and was given an appointment for the nurse practitioner for that morning. My appointment was running late 45 minutes or so, which was fine I appreciate not everyone fits in to a 10 minute window ….however at my appointment I realised why we were all waiting along time, the practitioner was a lovely lady but her conversations went on and on. I was pleased to get out as I was working from home and my boss had given me time out for this appointment. I had to ask the pharmacist how to take the prescribed ointment….he replied as advised by the practitioner….that information I never received. I was also concerned as my rash was looked at and touched and no washing of hands before and after and she let me out and went and called the next patient in. Hoping a word could be had to keep patients appointments on time, by cutting back on the general chitchat…as good as it is to chat !

Review titled Inadequate appointment system
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 06 November 2024
Received a text message from Ambrose Avenue requesting that I book a routine appointment as blood test abnormal. Tried to call at 8.00am today was on hold for nearly an hour had to hang up to start work. (1hr) Called again at 11.50 was holding on until 1.00, I then hung up again as thought the surgery was closed. (1hr 10mins) Called at 14.30 was on hold for 25 mins, when they answered they said call back tomorrow at 8.00. My questions to the practice manager are: - Why does this surgery shut everyday between 12.30 and 1.30 for staff training? A key time when those that work can call. - If your blood test results are abnormal why does the surgery not contact you to book the appointment or send you an appointment. - What does this surgery deem as normal waiting times? Do they think over an hour is acceptable. To ensure they are providing an adequate service do they monitor call waiting times to see where improvement is needed - for example how many people had to wait over an hour for the month of October/November etc. Ambrose Avenue - you should and can do better. It's no wonder that you are accepting new patients and other surgeries are not.

The pharmacist was extremely helpful and very kind. He assisted me and brought me a glass of water while I was in pain. He communicated with the receptionist to help me seeing my GP. I wish him all the success in his job. Thank you

Review titled Getting an appointment
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 16 October 2024
I am not sure what you need to do to get an appointment at this surgery. Call up at 8.00 - have done this 3 days running been number 28 to 30 in the queue, waiting for 30 mins, once answered, no appointments available. Turned up in person at 745, no appointments. The poor man in front of me had to explain his visit and we all heard he had a problem with his testicles, along with gaining his full name and date of birth. Looked online no appointments Tomorrow I will try again. Something needs to be done about this. There are never any per bookable appointments and you can’t get one by calling at 8. Can’t even get a walk-in. This has got to be one of the worse surgeries in Colchester.
