Having remdesivir with other medicines and herbal supplements

Cautions with other medicines

Some medicines can affect how remdesivir works or increase the chance of you having side effects.

Remdesivir is a new medicine, so it's important to tell your doctor about any medicines you are taking.

Tell your doctor if you're taking these medicines before you start your treatment:

  • chloroquine
  • hydroxychloroquine

Remdesivir and the coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccines

There's no evidence that remdesivir affects the COVID-19 vaccine.

COVID-19 treatments do not replace vaccinations. Vaccines are given to help your immune system fight a future COVID-19 infection.

The COVID-19 vaccine is not recommended within 4 weeks of having COVID-19.

Mixing remdesivir with herbal remedies and supplements

There's not enough information to say that herbal remedies or supplements are safe to take with remdesivir.

They're not tested in the same way as pharmacy and prescription medicines. They're generally not tested for the effect they have on other medicines.

Important: Medicine safety

Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you're taking any other medicines, including herbal remedies, vitamins or supplements.
