Regarding: Tesco Pharmacy Town Lane Stanwell Tw19 I have a urinalysis kit at home and due to signs and symptoms yesterday evening I dipstick’d my urine. Results showing positive leukocytes, protein, nitrates and traces of blood. My symptoms also included pain when urinating and urinating a lot more often. I then contacted 111 and explained my symptoms of a urinary tract infection. I was advised to attend my local pharmacy to obtain antibiotics, Tesco Pharmacy in Stanwell being my closest one. I attended the pharmacy and spoke to the pharmacist at the desk and advised her of the events so far. As soon as I mentioned traces of blood in the urine I was instantly shut down and told ‘no no no we don’t give antibiotics if there is traces of blood in the urine it is against our pgd’. I was surprised by this as being a medical professional myself I’m aware that it is common to have blood traces in urine with a uti present. I explained that I am not urinating visible blood and it was just traces in the urine, I was still told no with no further assessment and sent away to the walk in centre. Unfortunately due to the timing of this being quite late I was unable to obtain antibiotics from the walk in as they were closing. Having to return this morning. I have searched and located the pgd guidance that is provided to the pharmacy’s under the pharmacy 1st directive. The information that the pharmacist provided me seems to be incorrect, none of my symptoms fit under the ‘criteria for exclusion’. The only areas I can locate in the pgd regarding blood in the urine states: “Visible haematuria: treat for uti but inform individual/carer/parent/guardian to seek medical attention if haematuria continues after treatment.” This is from Version 1.2 which was published in January 2024. Therefore I could have been provided antibiotics from the pharmacist as first advised. This is quite frustrating and has caused unnecessary inconvenience and discomfort to myself. I find it quite unprofessional and a lack of care was shown. This new directive is meant to assist in the quick treatment of patients but if the pharmacists do not understand the patient group directions than the correct treatment will not be provided and walk in centres/gp’s will remain as busy as they are.

It is a nice pharmacy to shop, this is because they have a large car park and you can do your house hold shopping at the same time whenever you visit the store. And almost all the staffs are very friendly.
