The patient was my husband who has dementia, and whilst I, as his carer, was not allowed to remain with him during surgery he was so sympathetically treated and the instructions on discharge were delivered to me directly. The whole experience was really good right from the assessment stage to surgery. I have already talked positively to many people about Spamedica and thank you so much. the short waiting time from his original eye test with his optometrist, to the date for surgery was amazingly short. Very efficiently organised and the premises were spotless, and the equipment impressive. All the staff were so friendly and helpful. Thank you Spamedica.

From the moment I arrived was greeted and offered refreshments. Two members of staff pleasant and friendly. Talked me through the procedure and outcome of the surgery for my left eye cataract . They made me feel relaxed and confident I was in good hands. Over in 15 mins and they contacted my next of kin to come and collect me when they were ready. Excellent service and so pleased it was local and easy to get too. Many thanks

Fantastic facility with friendly and attentive staff. Every element of procedure fully explained before commencement. Once surgery is started encouragement forthcoming from surgeon and all individual stages explained. Any anxiety and nerves were soon dispelled. Results after less than 24 hours truly amazing.

Upon arrival greeted, escorted to reception, offered tea/coffee and within 5mins of arrival seen by practice consultant. Staff were warm, friendly and efficient and I would totally recommend SpaMedica if given the opportunity. Fantastic service. Many thanks

My cataract operation experience was without fault. I would like to thank the whole Derby team. The time spent at Spamedica was good and I felt in safe hands. Not having had the operation before I was a little nervous but was put at ease by the superb team. Many thanks.

A good experience throughout. Staff all very professional, thankyou. Specific attention paid to my comfort on theatre table, due to low back pain was much appreciated. One thought: in the the ward, while waiting to be called into surgery, is it necessary to have solid partitions between patients? It was rather like being cows in a milking stall. At such times it is more relaxing to be able to chat to other people whil sitting, rather than some having to stand to communicate with others in the same room

This was the second cataract operation I have had. From the start I was warmly welcomed by reception staff, had coffee made for me and was seen to promptly. The eye surgeon explained what was going to happen and how I would possibly feel after my operation. . I was given a pack containing swabs and eye drops and information of how to use these . What a wonderful and caring team you have, thank you

To be honest, whilst I would recommend this service I do think some of your staff need more training in dealing with the elderly or those who get easily confused. I went with my Mum as her carer and the optician was quite curt when she was unsure about using drops and no assistance was available and it seemed ‘pot luck’ whether the surgeon would be willing to give the extra procedure meaning the follow up drops were less essential. If this is a useful procedure for those less infirm or living alone then why not book those patients with a surgeon willing to give that? Also the nurse really spooked my Mum on the day of the procedure by suggesting she would need glasses for reading, glasses for distance and glasses for everyday use and told me as my Mum wasn’t wanting to have 3 sets of glasses then they couldn’t go ahead!!! Even I wouldn’t be happy with that when we were told she’d just need 1 for longer distances. She was quite sharp with my Mum. Other staff members were lovely. As you are often dealing with older people then all staff should be trained and there should be consideration given. I managed to intervene and we spoke to the person doing the procedure who reassured my Mum who was then happy to go ahead. Please remember that some of your older patients need patience
