I was very impressed with the care and dedication shown by the urgent treatment department provided for my mother when she broke her wrist. She was well looked after and every means was taken to ensure she was comfortable and secure. I would highly recommend them.

  2. Review titled Outstanding staff

I had to bring my 8 year old to A & E today due to a very nasty gash to her leg she'd sustained whilst playing in the garden. We were clearly directed to the correct service and seen within half an hour. The nurses were absolutely amazing. It was a very messy wound and my daughter was in a lot of pain but they did their very best to make her comfortable and to sew up the wound as neatly as possible. I'm extremely grateful for their care.

  3. Review titled Outstanding Staff

I broke my wrist and fractured my foot whilst on holiday abroad. On my return to the UK I was seen at the fracture clinic. The consultant explained that I would need an operation on my wrist. The staff were brilliant giving me reassurance that I would be taken great care of. I received a phone call within two hours of my visit offering me an appointment the next day at the day operation unit. Again I was treated with the utmost care. The anaesthetist and surgeon explain what was to happen whilst I was at the unit. All staff were amazing, from the reception, healthcare staff, nurses, porters, radiographers, discharge team. I cannot thank them enough.

My 91 year old mother needed a large Skin graft following removal of an unwanted lesion on her back. Initial consultation with Consultant was efficient, informative & the procedure was explained and planned very quickly; as we were not local essential pre-op monitoring was arranged the same day & although the wait for blood tests was long that day; it was done with care. A telephone pre-op was completed at the time arranged. Day surgery were fantastic, first on the list & discharged post GA by early afternoon;Good anesthesia, as no vomiting and great recovery; lovely nursing staff, ensuring Mum was safe before i took her home. Follow up Specialist dressing appointments x 2 were arranged by the secretary over the phone to ensure we could get Mum to them. The Specialist Nurse in Plastics (outpatients) were run without delay, with care & a smile. Seen on time and dressing care was spot on. Discharge letter arrived quicker than anticipated, with notable personable reference. 6 weeks later; no infections; no set backs & wounds are continuing to heal fantastically. Amazing team;great results . The Nhs at its best - thank you

  6. Review titled Awful experience in A&E/Urgent Care.

Rated 1 star out of 5

Called 111 with a suspected broken wrist, and told to go and see a pharmacist for their opinion on what to do and if I needed an X-ray. After speaking to the pharmacist, he told me to go to Accident and Emergency as my wrist did need an X-ray and to be looked at by a doctor. Upon arrival at A&E, a Monday night at around 6pm, I was told by the receptionist, to go to the Out of Hours GP area of the hospital. This was quite a walk from A&E, and had terrible signage to get there. It also resulted in having to walk through the majors part of A&E, which felt undignified for many of the patients in there as there was a constant flow of people walking past their rooms/cubicles. On arrival to the Out of Hours GP centre, my details had not been transferred over from the A&E reception so had to wait to be booked in, causing a delay. When I was booked in, I waited around an hour to be seen by the GP, which isn't too bad. However, when I explained my problem to the GP he asked me why I had been referred to his service, and not the main area of A&E. He explained to me that the OOH GP service does not have the capability to book X-rays and that he was extremely confused as to why I had been told to go here. He told me that I needed an X-ray and to rejoin the queue and wait around 6 hours more to be put onto the X-ray list. I then went back to A&E to see if I could get booked in for an X-ray. I took one look at the almost dangerously busy waiting area, which people were sitting on the floor in as there were no chairs, and decided to give it a miss. I then called 111 again to explain the issue and they referred me back to the pharmacy again. I understand the NHS is very busy and struggling, but the miscommunications and errors between staff really do not build confidence in a badly failing system. It does not surprise me that York Hospital is rated as inadequate, and one of the worst in the UK. The emergency care services are borderline dangerous and if they cannot deal with a suspected broken bone, then I dread to think what could happen if someone has a more complex and life threatening illness.

I was kept waiting well over an hour before I even saw anyone don’t make appointments if you’re not gonna stick to them or perhaps learn to tell the time!! Patients do have lives!!

Was admitted to A&E as an emergency, even though I remember nothing , the fast response from the paramedics and the Drs at A&E certainly saved my life, my husband and daughter were treated really well, they were informed of all that was going on , the staff on ICU also kept me alive and I will be eternally grateful , also the Coronary Care staff were absolutely amazing, I honestly can’t thank you all enough , excellent care from admission to discharge, Thankyou so so much

  9. Review titled Saw 4 great workers today.

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Jack m Steel - Posted on 01 November 2024

Entering A&E 01 November 2024, worker on reception a nurse probably higher who didn't wait around to get me help and then a nurse came and put me in room until something more was found then get sent to those holding rooms between wards. Things went down hill. They put in a box but for a walk and decided to get food I know they would try staving me. On doing pumped into a nice man in the hospital restaurant had a nice little chat. He only goes in on a Friday. Only turns out he's the duty manager for this area. I now know why he has a little treat because he works so hard and obviously can't really on most people around him. 4 hard workers. I see, I know. Great guys.
