  1. Review titled Good

Rated 4 stars out of 5

by Dan Ward - Posted on 25 February 2024

I always backed York hospital and never went anywhere else but when my wife was admitted from Selby hospital with internal bleeding and we arrived at A&E then directed to the department we needed we where told by that department (by the receptionist filled with her own inportance) that they where closed. So we went back to A&E who sent us back again. Eventually we got sorted, my wife was admitted, kept in for 2 days in an over occupied ward to the point they has to put her bed by the public sink and put screens up instead of a curtain. When I brought my wife home at 23:30 after she'd Bern told she was staying another night, they gave her meds which her GP told her a few days later to immediately stop taking as they can cause blood clots in her condition so we are still waiting follow ups. On a plus note, apart from the receptionist on Gda we met, all the staff we interacted with where amazing and went above and beyond. They are seriously understaffed which you can see in their faces which is heart breaking. All I can say is keep going, the performance your putting in I'd amazing and is so appreciated. Thank you for helping my wife.

  2. Review titled My treatment in A&E was excellent

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Thelma Wingfield - Posted on 18 January 2024

Sent by GP to A&E and the treatment was excellent from start to finish. I was seen, had tests and spoke to a doctor with the results, all within two hours. All the staff were friendly, kind and efficient. I was given time from the doctor and left feeling confident with the treatment given. Thank you

  3. Review titled Lovely phlebotomist

    by moonkz95 - Posted on 11 January 2024

I recently attended the blood testing facility at York District Hospital. The department was busy but the phlebotomist was absolutely lovely - she was so kind, patient and friendly. I have mobility issues and she took the time to ensure that the chair was at a comfortable height and adjusted it accordingly. She put me at ease, we had a chat and she was really caring and gentle.....she is a credit to the hospital. Her kindness was very much appreciated, especially as I have recently lost my mum.

  4. Review titled Abysmal communications

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Judith Woods - Posted on 05 January 2024

Tried several times to reach ward 37 at different times of different days and even through the switchboard, whom I might add, didn't seem to want to bother! PALS also hopeless. The chap was also half asleep. All I want is for someone to tell my aged brother that I cannot see him due to a bad infection and to give him my love and ask someone how he is etc. Does nobody care any more?,

  6. Review titled Speedy attention and care.

Rated 4 stars out of 5

by Lin Cooper - Posted on 12 February 2024

I reluctantly attended the A & E department, due to normally long waiting times, however I was feeling in despair in regard to my medical situation. However, I need not have worried. I was booked in by a very friendly receptionist, seen quite quickly by an equally friendly nursing sister, and then seen by a lovely doctor ! He examined me, gave me some advice, promising to write to my g.p. and he had actually read my medical file…………. !!! All of this happened in less than two hours, fantastic care and attention. Thank you all .

  7. Review titled Experience I'll never forget for the wrong reasons...

Rated 1 star out of 5

We were booked 2 weeks in advance for a induction as we are over due. We got told by our midwife to call in the morning to confirm our booking is still good to go, they said yes so we set off in plenty of time. We live 25 miles away and when we got into York they phoned us to stay no beds available now. So we left as theres no reason to stay. 20 minutes later another phone call "can you come in so we can monitor you" so we turned around. In the hospital we were put in a room and my partner sat on her back for 4 hours on her back being monitored, another reason why she had to stay on it as a student midwife didn't set up the machine right so my partner had to go on it again. Time later midwife came in saying we would have to go home "but we were expecting you would be going home didn't we?" No none of the staff talked to each other or bothered to tell us sat there that we would be going home. They said "oh expect a call tonight as we might have bed available later and we'll get you sorted tomorrow instead". Tomorrow rolled around no phone call so my partner called and said "oh error in the system" even though we are over due and we are deemed a risk pregnancy we are being classed as out patient instead of inpatients they said you can come in and be monitored again. Got to the door to be buzzed in waited around for 20 minutes after multiple failed attempts pressing the buzzer, a cleaner came out saying "sorry I can't let you in but I don't know why there not letting you in there all gossiping at the desk". While today we are in with better hopes but the standards of the NHS after this experience have left me disappointed and wonder why do I bother paying taxes when NHS staff sit around a do nothing but gossip, chitchat and get paid twice my annual salary? No organisation and no guidance to help student midwifes and most of all no communication with each other and the patients...

  9. Review titled Awful experience

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 08 January 2024

My 80 year old father was sent to A&E via his GP, in the middle of December, he had various test done within a couple of hours however it was 15 hours in A&E before finding him a bed. He has since been moved 3 times to different wards, there was no communication with myself (next of kin) to let me know he had moved wards, everytime I found out was when I went to visit, which was everyday, for the first few weeks. He contracted covid whilst in hospital and I can honestly say the staff on Ward 35 were delightful, I got more answers from the head nurse on Ward 35 than I had from any other member of staff in the other wards. After nearly 5 weeks my father is still in hospital and they won't let him out until his care package is in place, this was sent as a refereral by occuptional health on Friday 28th December and I still haven't heard anything. As you can imagine being in hospital is actually now doing more harm than good and the communication from staff is not good keeping next of kin informed, I would not recommend York hospital to anyone.

  10. Review titled You need to put a category for Wards or admissions

Rated 3 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 30 January 2024

if you do not have a category for Wards then you cannot get reviews of elderly peoples care in the wards when they need help to feed, toilet, and wash. You must change this so you can see if things are going well and gather this information. Wards - my father arrived on ward 14. His body & legs are all twisted and it is clear he cannot walk easily. He was put in a bed furthest away from the toilet, even though his visit was for chronic diahorrea and he is always desperate for the toilet. He was left for 4 hours without even a glass of water. When I asked for a cardboard bottle for him to urinate into they said they had run out. Nobody spoke to him about a strategy for toileting or asked him what his needs are. He was in agony and they refused to let him take his pain killers saying that they need to meet with a doctor before every dose. He was supposed to not eat for 8 hours and take 2 doses to clear his bowel. Instead of giving him the first dose straight away they made him wait for 8 hours before the first dose. This is a man who weights 8 stone being deprived of food for 16 hours instead of 8 hours and deprived of water and a way to toilet himself. If someone clearly cannot get to the toilet...how can there be no assessment made by a nurse so that they dont soil themselves? We were just told that a commode was on its way and that arrived after 6 hours.
