  1. Review titled Pediatric a and e.

Took our autistic 11 year old son on to a and e one evening. Although the wait was frustrating all the staff we came across were absolutely fantastic and don't get the credit they deserve. They all understood his additional needs and treated him with respect and dignity.

My wife had a stroke on Friday 6th September. We arrived @ 11.00pm at the A & E Department. In the next 15 hours she was seen by at least three Doctors, she had blood tests, ECG, CT Scan an even an MRI scan !(on a Saturday)) Diagnosis and treatment was decided and she was able to come home on Monday evening (9th). What an excellent service. Thank you.

  4. Review titled Appalling administration and a failed administrative system.

Rated 3 stars out of 5

by Philip Hodgkins - Posted on 13 August 2024

4 weeks ago I telephoned the hospital Audiology department to tell an audiologist that my "cross-over" hearing aids had fused. I was told to make an appointment. After writing to the senior admin administrator on the 15th July by email I was told to make an appointment as she was unable to help. On the 16th July I phoned and made an appointment. That day I called again and spoke to an audiologist who made a same day appointment at 12.00hrs rather than some 2 or 3 weeks hence. I saw the audiologist who fitted me with a temporary hearing aid and put in an order for new hearing aids. 4 weeks on having heard nothing I phoned to discover my hearing aids had arrived and was told to make an appointment. I phoned appointments and they could not make an appointment without having confirmation from Audiology that an appointment was necessary. I phoned audiology and was told an audiologist would phone me to sort the issues of my appointment. No one from audiology phoned. Much later the lady I had spoken to who couldn't make an appointment made an appointment for the 29th August. More than 6 weeks without hearing aids. I know that the audiologists are a caring group, trained, dedicated, and committed to patients cares and concerns. Highly motivated. It's a sad tale but one travels the road in hope that one may hear something about improvements as a result of a study of work systems and the commitment so necessary from the hospitals administration as it serves the route of good healthcare.

  5. Review titled Outstanding and professional

Rated 5 stars out of 5

A&E minor injury. Excellent subject knowledge backed up by experience. Clear communication of processes and medical condition. I gained a good understanding of actual situation rather than my own rather simplistic sense of it. Moving forward, that's great for any patient. X-ray dept also at the same standard. Correct medication was prescribed and handed to me before I left the hospital. Friendly staff all over.

I was most impressed by the efficiency, empathy and discretion shown to me by the doctor and nursing staff. I first raised concern about certain symptoms with my GP practice on Monday and was seen by the Urology team on Thursday that week. Full marks for the NHS.

  7. Review titled They simply don't care.

Saw the other knee surgeon - albeit very briefly - after having knee surgery many months ago because I cannot bend my knee any better than before surgery. He only spent around 2 minutes with me, had no interest in me not being able to bend my knee fully and told me I should be satisfied with it how it is and that I've had 'a good result'. He said 'most other people would be happy with this', ignoring the fact I am a young, active person who plays sports. If I was much older I would be more willing to accept this. He, just like the surgeon who operated on me, ignored the lump in the back of my knee which is the clear and obvious reason for the restricted movement, gave me no indication of what is was, and told me he can't help me. I pointed out to him all sports people who have ACL surgery do not have issues fully bending their knee after rehab and return to sport to which he replied 'I think they do [have problems bending their knees]'. When I pointed out footballers will regularly be sliding around on their knees after ACL surgery he said that isn't a good idea... I felt he had already made his mind up on what he was going to say before he had met me from the tone in his voice which I felt was wrong. In fairness to the doctor who had taken me into the room before the surgeon came to speak to me, he actually listenened and tried to say what the issue with the back of my knee could be, but as I was not given anything concrete, I'm none the wiser. Once again, a very upsetting and disappointing visit to Hereford Hospital.

  9. Review titled Top Care

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Rachel Weaver - Posted on 04 November 2023

Couldn’t fault the care I received on the maternity ward after having some concerns regarding baby. All the midwives, doctors and consultants were sympathetic, friendly and extremely caring. This is my first time ever staying in a hospital and i’m very blessed to have had a positive experience.

  10. Review titled Not a great experience

Rated 1 star out of 5

Was looking forward to finally welcoming my baby when I finally went into labour and headed to Hereford maternity ward. Initially things were going fine until I actually went into the delivery room. Unfortunately due to what I believe was an inexperienced midwife, my delivery had implications which resulted in my baby having to be in the special care unit for 24hrs which could have been avoided entirely. Whilst she was in the other unit away from me, 4 hours passed by without her being brought to me to be fed when initially it was agreed she’d be brought across every hour or so. No updates to her condition for long periods of time with some staff not even knowing where she was which became quite stressful to me. After delivery I was placed in a shared room with another family. I was put in the corner but the curtains weren’t closed around me and having had a general aesthetic, I had no use of my legs for a while to sort it myself. Overall it was a very stressful & lonely experience where I was given very little updates to my daughter’s condition or even anyone to check on how I was. Pressing the buzzer was ineffective and I did feel guilty doing so as the staff were so overrun. I couldn’t wait to get out the following day when initially I was told I could leave in the morning but didn’t actually leave until 6pm due to getting passed from midwife to midwife - again not their fault but they are so short staffed on the ward I felt it hard to find someone who knew any details. As a first time mum I’ve found this experience rather off putting for having another one and would strongly consider a home birth should I ever gave another child. Wish I had some good memories of the initial birth but sadly it’s something I really want to forget about!
