Review titled Very low standard of basic care

Arrive by ambulance for a second time in 3 days with chronic chest and back pain, first visit a 9h sat on a chair but with pain meds and a CT scan, told by Dr its not gaul stones and discharged only to find from a GP visit reviewing the sqme scan its 100% stones, next day 999 call to return to A&E, 4h wait in the corridor before admitting into department 2h later the doctor confirms stones and kidney infection and wanted surgon to view that was a further 11h, while this was going on no further pain meds no help and Obs done every 4h after being told it would be hourly due to the orignal dose of morphine, we asked one nurse if she could have another type of pain relif as the pain was chronic again to be told “i will ask after my break” over a hour later i asked the same nurse to be told “dr said no” so she was not going to inform me and leave in chronic pain, after 30minss asked another nurse the same and 10min later was given a alternative to find the Dr has not said no and clearly no notes been read, The surgon told me 4.15pm after 15h its gaul stones and kidney infection and i need to stay in with further pain meds as possibly kidney stone in liver, 15mins later a nurse is trying to discharge me was was confident i was fine and i had to demand she gets another nurse to check my notes to find im correct and to be moved to a ward, Moved to a corridor again alfor 2h before finally getting on a ward, I guess the dont discriminate and treat everyone in A&E in this manner as i witnessed Other members of the public being treated in the same manner, i’m quite a few members of staff. I had absolutely no interest in the basic care and compassion of other people And even spoke to people in way that left a few patients in tears It seems that this particular A&E department is a chaotic mess where nobody reads patient’s notes and nobody seems to have any coordination skills between different staff members along with an underlying inhumane treatment of peoples feelings Let alone health conditions that are left hours on end with without any form of observation with some patients left screaming or shouting out constantly for help and in pain with no help or compassion towards them

Friendly, competent and caring staff looking after my elderly mother, both in the A&E and on the ward. Every effort was made to make my mother comfortable which made a potentially stressful experience less so - many thanks. On her discharge however, hospital transport was arranged to take her home and my mother had to transfer to a different wheelchair/ chair five times! She was totally exhausted by the time she was sat in the ambulance, not surprising considering the treatment she had had in hospital meant she found it difficult and painful to stand and move too often. Perhaps the hospital could look into streamlining this service so the patients need only transfer once or twice when they are using the hospital transport.

I was seen by the Maxillofacial team on Wednesday morning. My appointment was on time, the staff were all very pleasant and professional. They made me very comfortable which helped enormously during the procedure. Thank you

After attending A&E today as a terminal stage 4 cancer patient on chemotherapy who brought my mother with me who is registered newly blind. I cannot praise the staff enough for a ) seeing me quickly. B) making sure I was in a side room to protect myself due to no immune system c ) to the fantastic young man porter who pushed myself to x Ray but also explained where to walk for my mother and let her hold onto him while he was navigating a busy hall and numerous beds to the x Ray staff who helped my mum to a waiting area while I was x rayed and then collected her again to come to me. All of these little things mean such a huge deal to a family who are going through such a stressful time! Neither of the staff had to help my mum but they all did and I cannot thank u all enough as it made the whole situation less stressful for us both.

Hugely impressed with my experience of the UTC. Called 111 at 9am with a problem with my eye. They booked me in for a half 9 appointment at the UTC, and I was seen on time by a lovely lady. 10 minutes later, my ailment was sorted and I was on my way home.

I was asked to leave the ward and go sit in a waiting room for medication, and sent home 12 hours after I had surgery. I told them I didn’t feel well enough to leave and nurse also made a remark that I wasn’t as mobile as I should be if leaving. I can’t even wash myself or get out of bed on my own. I had been awake only a couple of hours when I was asked to go home to free up beds. There was absolutely no pain level check since my surgery although it has been entered into my chart without asking me. And I was left for 7 hours within a couple hours of surgery with absolutely no pain relief despite having asked and being in more pain than pre-operation. But was only offered 2 x 500mg of paracetamol even though I was IV morphine before my surgery. I cannot even move without help and have been kicked out with ineffective pain relief, no checkup from then surgeon after my surgery, or even a wash. Can’t say I would recommend anyone to come to Chichester and especially not Pagham Ward

At 9.30 pm on 23/03/2024 I attended accident and emergency after a fall down steps in the dark, ,damaging my face, bleeding profusely and in shock. I was delt with very effectively within 2 1/2 to 3 hours. the staff were helpful and efficient, I was seen by a doctor who was very helpful, informative, accurate and efficient. I would rate the staff response as a 1,the state of the hospital showed underinvestment, disabled loo closed ,problems with blood pressure monitoring machines, the e response to review my treatment which I was asked to make didn't work---hence this review. That element I would rate at a 3.Hope this is helpful

I was admitted for surgery following an incomplete miscarriage. Despite the sad circumstances of my treatment, the staff were fantastic. I felt well informed throughout the process and felt cared for in an empathetic way. As a NHS nurse myself, it’s has re-enforced my love and appreciation for the NHS and I feel proud to work for such a fantastic organisation. The team made an awful situation feel that bit easier. Thank you.

I visited the urgent treatment centre with mum and the service was lovely, the team could not have been kinder and we couldn't have asked for more. We were given a prescription to take our local pharmacy but they didn't have the medicine and said return to St Richards who will help. We returned to the St Richard pharmacy, which was closed, and waited until 1 when it opened. a lovely person served us and was so kind, but we had to ask the pharmacist what to do. This was when the excellent service wheels fell off the bus, as the pharmacist shrieked that they could not help now as they "needed to pee". They disappeared for 45 minutes while we waited with Mum in the wheelchair for their return. We all need to take a break, but we all need to be professional and this really wasn't. We were embarrassed for the lovely person at the counter who kept checking in on us, and they were so kind, but please, St Richards, sort out the pharmacy - perhaps have a second pharmacist on duty for comfort breaks?

Went for day surgery today. I was greeted by friendly nurses and immediately shown to my area. I cannot fault anything the did in pre-op. Everyone involved in the surgery said hello and provided and calming environment. The nurses in post op were some of the most caring and friendly I have ever known. Faultless, it felt like private service and I am eternally grateful. Thank you to all involved
