Review titled Outstanding care
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Linda B - Posted on 19 December 2023
Outstanding care from cardio respiratory and a&e. Having a heart condition that was monitored closely by my cardiologist I eventually needed open heart surgery. My cardiologist in Scarborough recommended Sheffield and at the end if October I had surgery. Since returning my recovery has been good except from one setback. I had pains that didn't fit the normal surgery pains so visited a&e. The consultant reconigised immediately it was pericarditis and started treatment. I was able to leave the hospital within 24 hours. I felt I was in safe hands and my recovery continued. I had a follow up heart scan with a few days showing my recovery was on track. I have another scan this week. I can't thank Scarborough hospital enough for their fabulous care.

Review titled Excellent service in A&E today
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 02 November 2023
I arrived having been sent from Whitby Hospital this morning following likely rib fracture complications. Check-in was fast; immediate BP monitoring; triage nurse and then doctor who set up for CT and bloods. All went smoothly and quickly. Discharged with full explanation and care recommendations by 1pm. Between 9am and 1pm I have been in two hospitals 17 miles apart and can’t fault the treatment in either of them. Thank you.

I went in absolutely petrified after having a couple of traumatic experiences at the dentist with a tooth removal. And both staff members made me feel at ease through out my wisdom tooth removal and i didnt feel a thing. Just want to thank them for it.

Review titled Well looked after!
Rated 4 stars out of 5
by Judith Liddle - Posted on 29 November 2023
On what was an extremely busy day I was looked after so well by a wonderful doctor and nurses. They were so kind professional and I had many investigations to find out what was wrong. After all the horrible stuff that is said about the NHS I have nothing but praise for the way I and my husband were treated. They were so busy but nothing was a trouble to them.

Review titled Fantastic Care
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 24 October 2023
I attended A&E with a perianal abscess which was not respondingto antibiotics. Despite A&E being extremely busy I was seen by the triage nurse promptly and streamed directly to the Surgical Assessment Unit. Once on SAU I had a thorough clinical assessment with prompt decision made that I would require an operation. I was transferred to Haldane ward for pre-op assessments and subsequently to theatre. Post-op I returned to Haldane ward for recovery before being discharged home the same day. At all stages I was kept informed of the situation in theatre and had a clear plan outlined. My nursing care was exemplary both pre and post op. The input of Surgical and Anaesthetic teams was also professional with decisions well communicated. Following my short admission I attended SAU on a daily basis for a week to have my wound re-packed and dressed. The nursing care was again excellent. Also, despite being able to attend GP for further dressings now I am reassured to know access to SAU is still available (including overnight and weekends) if I have concerns. I would like to highlight the fantastic care I received from the teams in SAU, Haldane ward and theatre along with the excellent care systems provided by the Streaming Service (A&E) and SAU.

Review titled Excellent Clinic Experience
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 10 October 2023
I had an appointment at the Women's Unit today. The clinic was running late, but there was a supply of water provided for patients, there was entertainment in the form of a TV and some magazines and the waiting area was comfortable. I was given far more time in the appointment than I would have expected, hence the over running clinic - it was clear to see that the team were providing an excellent, thorough, thoughtful, service, with time to discuss issues without being rushed, a variety of onward treatment options offered and full and frank information sharing about my chosen route. I felt welcomed, supported and cared for throughout and have full faith in the service continuing to to provide for my needs and those of the other patients. Thank you to the team for making what could have been a difficult morning, a bright, cheerful one, filled with helpful information and support. Keep up the good work!

Review titled Excellent communication from staff
by PRHDaughter - Posted on 14 September 2023
Today I realised my parents were not answering the phone. They are elderly and both have existing health issues. Dad had a fall recently while at a hospital for cataract surgery and ended up in A&E. After several hours ringing them and feeling there was something wrong, I contacted switchboard and the operator was compassionate and caring in manner and looked to see if there had been an admission. She was able to tell me Dad had been admitted and was in A&E at Scarborough. I was put through. The member of staff there who answered the phone was excellent and offered to help me speak to my Mum, who gave me the story about what had happened. Dad has broken ribs, bones in his hand. It feels as though the service, although busy, has been excellent in efficiency and communication skills today. I'd like to express my thanks,

Review titled Treated with such kindness, respect, care and sensitivity
by capricornuskx58 - Posted on 19 September 2023
My brother died in the emergency assessment unit at Scarborough Hospital. It was sudden and unexpected and he was only in his early thirties. My mum was there when it happened. I arrived shortly afterwards. It was late in the evening. The staff treated me, my mum and my brother with such kindness, respect, care and sensitivity. It can't have been easy for them. I'd like to say thank you.

Review titled The kindness and care shown was exemplary
by Tilly34 - Posted on 30 August 2023
Last week I visited Scarborough’s Accident and Emergency department to support my niece and her young son who had injured his wrist falling off a slide. He was triaged within half an hour and an x ray ordered for a suspected wrist fracture. I am emailing to say a huge thank you to all the staff that dealt with us through an extremely busy session when the department was full. The kindness and care shown was exemplary and very much appreciated. I also want to thank the very kind member of staff who supported my niece when she became faint and organised immediate blood pressure readings and then brought tea, biscuits and a sandwich! Thank you to the SHO paediatric doctor who was so kind during the examination and also took time to feed back to us after the potting up of the fractured wrist in the early hours of the morning. The only thing to mention is that the staff seemed extremely stretched by the huge volume of patients they were dealing with and I hope that with the new A & E facility opening in Scarborough, staffing ratios will be prioritised to deal with the high needs of the coast.

Thank you for your kind words regarding the care you and your family received from the Emergency Department at Scarborough Hospital. It is heartening to know that you were treated with such kindness and encouragement during what I am sure was a stressful time for your entire family. Our staff work hard to ensure their patients receive the highest standard of care, and we appreciate your positive remarks about the treatment you received from the clinical team involved in the care of your nephew and niece. I have passed on your comments to the staff involved, which I am sure they will be very pleased to read. Thank you for taking the time to write to us to express your gratitude. We value and appreciate feedback from our patients and relatives and thank you once again for sharing your experience with me.
