I recently received a femoral hernia repair at Rotherham hospital. From the moment I arrived at theatre admission I was put at ease. Anesthesia team, surgical team and recovery team we're all excellent. A massive thank you to all staff involved in my care yesterday. Thanks NHS.

  3. Review titled Do not be old

Rated 1 star out of 5

Do not be old. Espeially on Amu and A 1. The care is substandard and demeaning. Communication is awful and almost non existant. They do not stimulate and work on mobility or real recovery. They are merely holding bays, a production line devoid of soul. You are left to fester. Do not agree to respite. From the begining fight for your realtive. Don't be put off by excuses. Or the laziness of the system to say, next number please. I have seen many hospitals in my time. This is the worst. They're good people at Rdgh but they are becoming rare. If you can avoid Rotherham. And beware discharge. Really beware the discharge process. Chose care at home. Never respite. You will be trapped.

Hello, my name is Samantha, Head of Patient Experience and Engagement at the Hospital. I was truly sorry to read of your recent experience with Wards AMU and A1 and the discharge process. It is always our intention to provide the best service possible and as such disappointing when our services fall below the expectations of our patients and their families. Given the issues you have raised I would like the Patient Experience Team to look into this matter further on your behalf. Please contact the Patient Experience Team on 01709 424461 Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm or alternatively you can email the team at the following address, your.experience@nhs.net with your details. Kindest regards Samantha

  5. Review titled Dissapointing

Rated 3 stars out of 5

by Julie Jenkins - Posted on 12 June 2023

Today I had a scheduled telephone apointment for 1.30 pm Gastroenterology. As advised on my letter my call could take place at Am or Pm dependant on workload. Ive changed a shift at work (nhs) and carried my phone around all day for this call. When no call arrived I contacted the contact centre to enquire. They said I had missed my call at 2.10 pm ?? They gave me direct number and I left a message and my hospital number for a call back . I was kindly contacted by reception/ secretary to be told I had a dna. I explained no call had come through, no missed call on my call log, and would it be possible for the consultant to call me back. Again the lady in question called me back to say I would have to wait for another appointment. This cant only have happened to me. I work in the nhs I know how things work appointment wise. I understand workloads etc. My details must be correct as my call was returned from my message and I only left my hospital number. Dissapointing service to say the least. Not sure I could have done anything different today to get this call. If I intended to miss the appointment I wouldnt have chased it as the time had well passed my appointment time. Another long wait for a further telephone call with unresolved issues.

  6. Review titled Shocking.

Visited on 1/5/23 with my daughter she had fallen and needed X-ray on elbow. First went to montague hospital to be told they can’t deal with her as she has fallen from higher than meter Got to Rotherham from start to finish was so stressful Checked in on iPads unsure on the purpose of them waste of time and money spent Went thru to child waiting area well the amount of people nearly falling over in there toys everywhere least in the right place if fell Had X-ray for then the nurse who didn’t have the X-ray on computer told us fracture clinic will call. I called fracture clinic 2/5/23 to be told I was the third person today to be told that and she even couldn’t understand what’s going on with A&E Ladie at fracture clinic reception absolutely lovely and sorted us an appointment to see someone there My daughter is in pain the nurse gave no advice nothing apart from to say she hit her elbow on her kitchen cabinet and it will hurt for a while my daughter fell down full flight of stairs hardly the same. Wasn’t offered paracetamol in the 5 1/2 hours there nothing. Needs sorting out big time.

  8. Review titled The NHS system is broken!

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Christina Hurst - Posted on 10 April 2023

After being taken to hospital by ambulance with pain, shaking and vomiting etc, the seeing triage and having blood tests was the easy part. Then the wait..I could not put up with the pressure caused on my stomach from being sat in a seat and my husband asked twice if there was a chair with the back that went down or somewhere I could lay to take this pressure away..that was a resounding no. After already waiting nearly 7 hours I told my husband I couldn't bare it another minute and to ask how many more were being seen before me. I heard the receptionist tell him 'you've only been here 6 1/2 hours, some people have been waiting 12, so it could be another few hours' I said thats it I'm going home.I had to lay down.I took the canula off (the needle had come out anyway) and came home. My problem still not resolved so my granddaughter contacted 111,a nurse rang me about 3 hours later and said to go back to A and E and say they had said to take me to see a Doctor on the Surgical Ward. We bypassed the A and E and went straight to the ward to see if I could get seen. We had arrived there in less then an hour after speaking to them, only to be told Sorry but there was no Doctor, he had gone home at 3pm, this was 3.50pm. So if we had 'booked in' at the A and E again first, what would have happened? Would I have to sit in pain again until the next day? I came home! So I'm still in pain and discomfort now but will put up with it until I can see a GP. The NHS service is broken. We talked to people who had been waiting 12/13 hours to see a doctor. There were people with kids and babies that were there when we arrived and still there when we left. Its wrong! If I'd been sat with an amputated leg I would still have prefered the kids were sorted first. I do actally feel sorry for the reception staff in general who you can see are getting it in the neck from patients that are fed up. ( other than the one who seemed to think we should be thankfull we had only been there for 61/2 hours). I was taken by ambulance at 9pm Thur evening and left at 4am Fri having not been seen by a Doctor. Some people had been there 12 hours. All we were asking for was a layback chair or anything to lay back on and we would have reluctantly waited alongside all the others but not even that would be given.

  9. Review titled Great care and consideration

Rated 4 stars out of 5

by Angela - Posted on 20 April 2023

I left a lengthy message as I wanted to commend all who I saw in A&E but alas I couldn't do this so I will hope you all know who you are. On Tues 18th April I came to A&E on my GP's advice. All from the girl on the door inviting me to sit as she took my details as she saw I wasn't well through to nurses, the consultant (he was great), on to the scan team could not have treated me any better or more respectfully. Well worth my wait. More money will provide more staff to help you all in many ways plus more blood pressure monitors needed in each consulting room so all the hard working A&E team don't have to run from one room to another looking for one. You deserve it and more. Well done to you all in a bad and very busy climate. Angela
