Review titled anxiety for surgery
Rated 3 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 26 August 2023
i broke my knee in a few places, they wanted to do surgery 2 weeks later (july 11), i was sure i didn’t want it. only just turning 18 i was clueless but definite on my decision. everyone i know was pushing me to have it for the best chances of walking and doing my sport again. i was convinced to say yes by my mum on the day. i did in distress, stupidly. (i knew i’d regret it) they could only give me the pre med if i said yes first so i had to. i said yes and had it right away and wait a short wait to calm while i wait to be wheeled in. i was in extreme extreme distress from the minute we parked the car. the surgeons told me if i still didn’t want it i can say no at any time and they’ll stop. i did say no many times. the anaesthesiologist was yanking my arms trying to shove stuff down a cannula. the whole time he had a smug look on his face, like he was holding in laughs. and like he seemed to enjoy the look of people in distress. so much more stuff went on but the last thing i remember was him wanting to hook me up to stay hydrated i think? i said no i’m not falling for it you’re gonna pump me full of stuff. that’s the last i remember before waking up. the pre med did nothing for me at all. i’m extremely upset still and traumatised. i can’t sleep at night, i can’t cope, i don’t know what to do. the nurse who took care of me before and after was so lovely though and helped me a lot. i’m now doing physio and the lady i see is so lovely and so encouraging and supportive. may i ask if there are cameras in the op rooms?

Review titled Great care
Rated 5 stars out of 5

I had to go into day surgery dept to have a plate fitted on my wrist. The staff were totally brilliant. Operation clearly explained. After care explained. Having a nurse holding your hand when you come round after surgery was so comforting.

Review titled Avoid if possible
Rated 1 star out of 5

I was referred to the Urgent Treatment Centre by the NHS 111 service. I arrived at the hospital and couldn't find anywhere nearby to park, I had to use a roadside space half a mile away with a 2 hour time limit. On arrival at the UTC I was taken aback by the poor standard of cleaning and hygiene, the entrance is shabby, filthy, run down and neglected. There was a long queue to register at the UTC and during my time waiting it didn't move. The waiting room was overflowing with patients and the whole setup reeks of inefficiency and second rate services. I decided that my chances of getting worse were greater in staying and left. I'll try and treat myself and if that doesn't result in an improvement I'll take a ferry to France, it cannot be any worse there. Epitomises the broken state of the NHS.

Review titled Bad practice
Rated 1 star out of 5

Sdec part of amu where very good and helpful they listened to you and tried to help you to make sure all your medical needs where met. Then when moved through to the main part of amu it seems that staff are abrupt and there is very little communication. Your needs don't feel at all met and treatment seems to hit aa brick wall. I ended up leaving with no treatment and very upset and I hope that they can work to improve this so that sdec and amu can be as good as each other.

Review titled Lovely staff but wait too long
Rated 2 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 24 May 2023
The staff were lovely, but the wait times are too long. More funding for all hospital A&E departments is needed. Went in with chest pain, 5 hours later bloods and ecg done but no doctor seen. Ended up discharging myself due to negative impact on mental health. Figured if wait was gonna be another 2 hours (at least) then there couldn't be anything too urgent.

Dear Anonymous Thank you for sharing your experience and sorry to hear it was not as good as you would have wished. We hope you have now been able to see a health professional to get the appropriate support and guidance on your chest pains and that the problem has been resolved or being treated effectively. As I am sure you are aware, waiting times are a national concern and have been further impacted by industrial action but as a Trust we are making every effort to reduce waiting times, not only in the Emergency Department, but across the whole organisation as mentioned in a recent article on our Trust Website - [https://www.uhd.nhs.uk/news/events-list/173-latest-news-events-2023/1961-tackling-our-waiting-lists](https://www.uhd.nhs.uk/news/events-list/173-latest-news-events-2023/1961-tackling-our-waiting-lists) The Trust is also nearing completion of a brand new, state of the art Emergency Department which will greatly increase capacity and provide more comfortable surroundings for patients while they wait. We appreciate this comes too late for your circumstances but understand the need and working hard to improve the situation. Regards Patient Experience Team

Review titled Exceptional therapy team.
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Jason Pink - Posted on 16 May 2023
I can't begin to thank my partner's therapy team and all of the staff on Portland Ward enough for the great job they all did making such a stressful situation a lot more bearable. They were all so kind and understanding in such a difficult situation, it's almost a shame that after 6 months it was time to take the next step in my partner's recovery. Thank you all so much, I couldn't have done it without your help!

Hello Jason Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. We value feedback from patients about the care they receive but the experience of partners/carers is equally important as you watch on. As you mentioned it can be a very stressful situation watching helplessly as things are done to a loved one, so it is important for you to feel included and informed as best as possible and to make sure you feel supported. We are pleased you found the support given by the team, to both you and your partner, has made the last six months more bearable. We will share your kind comments with the team Regards Patient Experience Team
