  1. Review titled Avoid if possible

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 03 July 2023

I was referred to the Urgent Treatment Centre by the NHS 111 service. I arrived at the hospital and couldn't find anywhere nearby to park, I had to use a roadside space half a mile away with a 2 hour time limit. On arrival at the UTC I was taken aback by the poor standard of cleaning and hygiene, the entrance is shabby, filthy, run down and neglected. There was a long queue to register at the UTC and during my time waiting it didn't move. The waiting room was overflowing with patients and the whole setup reeks of inefficiency and second rate services. I decided that my chances of getting worse were greater in staying and left. I'll try and treat myself and if that doesn't result in an improvement I'll take a ferry to France, it cannot be any worse there. Epitomises the broken state of the NHS.

  2. Review titled Bad practice

Rated 1 star out of 5

Sdec part of amu where very good and helpful they listened to you and tried to help you to make sure all your medical needs where met. Then when moved through to the main part of amu it seems that staff are abrupt and there is very little communication. Your needs don't feel at all met and treatment seems to hit aa brick wall. I ended up leaving with no treatment and very upset and I hope that they can work to improve this so that sdec and amu can be as good as each other.

  3. Review titled Lovely staff but wait too long

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 24 May 2023

The staff were lovely, but the wait times are too long. More funding for all hospital A&E departments is needed. Went in with chest pain, 5 hours later bloods and ecg done but no doctor seen. Ended up discharging myself due to negative impact on mental health. Figured if wait was gonna be another 2 hours (at least) then there couldn't be anything too urgent.

Dear Anonymous Thank you for sharing your experience and sorry to hear it was not as good as you would have wished. We hope you have now been able to see a health professional to get the appropriate support and guidance on your chest pains and that the problem has been resolved or being treated effectively. As I am sure you are aware, waiting times are a national concern and have been further impacted by industrial action but as a Trust we are making every effort to reduce waiting times, not only in the Emergency Department, but across the whole organisation as mentioned in a recent article on our Trust Website - [https://www.uhd.nhs.uk/news/events-list/173-latest-news-events-2023/1961-tackling-our-waiting-lists](https://www.uhd.nhs.uk/news/events-list/173-latest-news-events-2023/1961-tackling-our-waiting-lists) The Trust is also nearing completion of a brand new, state of the art Emergency Department which will greatly increase capacity and provide more comfortable surroundings for patients while they wait. We appreciate this comes too late for your circumstances but understand the need and working hard to improve the situation. Regards Patient Experience Team

  5. Review titled Exceptional therapy team.

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Jason Pink - Posted on 16 May 2023

I can't begin to thank my partner's therapy team and all of the staff on Portland Ward enough for the great job they all did making such a stressful situation a lot more bearable. They were all so kind and understanding in such a difficult situation, it's almost a shame that after 6 months it was time to take the next step in my partner's recovery. Thank you all so much, I couldn't have done it without your help!

Hello Jason Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. We value feedback from patients about the care they receive but the experience of partners/carers is equally important as you watch on. As you mentioned it can be a very stressful situation watching helplessly as things are done to a loved one, so it is important for you to feel included and informed as best as possible and to make sure you feel supported. We are pleased you found the support given by the team, to both you and your partner, has made the last six months more bearable. We will share your kind comments with the team Regards Patient Experience Team

  6. Review titled Appreciation of great service in A and E

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Elizabeth Le Rossignol - Posted on 04 April 2023

After badly breaking my wrist whilst on holiday abroad I was advised to return home for surgery as soon as possible. I turned up at Poole A and E and was so impressed by the efficient and fast service given. I was met at reception by a nurse who did an initial assessment and then directed to the waiting room where I only had about an hour's wait before seeing the triage nurse. She was able to send me down to X-ray which was done very quickly and then she came and told me that an orthopedic doctor would come down to see me. This doctor arrived quite soon and explained what would happen next. She said orthopaedics would try to fit to me in for surgery this week but with the bank holiday coming up they were extremely busy. However the next day I heard from the fracture clinic and they have given me an appointment for the following day with surgery that afternoon. I'm so impressed with all this efficiency when I know that the NHS is under extreme pressure with staffing and the Covid backlog. The orthopaedic doctor also cut away at some of my cast which had been put on rather too tightly in Barbados, so she managed to make it much more comfortable for me. A big thank you to everyone who saw me yesterday. Our NHS is wonderful.

I just want to say how lovely the staff were in the Endoscopy Unit when I attended for an endoscopy yesterday (21 April). Their kindness and concern considerably eased my anxieties. An excellent service all round.

Dear Gary Thank you for your kind comments about your visit to the Endoscopy Unit and the staff who looked after you. Having someone there who really understands the anxieties about having this type of procedure is a real help. Most patients find the apprehension before the procedure was all for nothing once they have been seen and put at ease by the staff. We will be happy to pass on your comments to the team. I had an MRI today. From the moment I arrived in hospital, everyone was extremely kind : Receptionist, when she explained me where the MRI department was. Another kind lady ( staff) ,which asked me if I need help, then confirming I was going in the right direction. Support staff ,radiographer were going again above and beyond in order to help. Their manners were impeccable, I felt safe , valued, respected. I am honoured and grateful for the opportunity of meeting absolutely exceptional staff members. My entire consideration for all of them.
