Review titled Grateful for the kindness and consideration
by carinahd74 - Posted on 27 October 2023
A few days ago I had an appointment at Pilgrim Hospital Boston with urology department for surgery following referral from my GP. The appointment was booked for 0730 so, driven by my wife for 2 hours, we arrived at 0700. Although called in at 0730 I was not seen until 1630. I was treated in theatre by a first class team who took account of my age and obvious nervousness by one of the team showing extreme kindness and keeping me occupied throughout. The surgeon was a real professional in his explanation and surgery ensuring I was comfortable at all times. The recovery team were very good and ensured I was safe to go back to the ward. I was treated at all times by ward staff with utmost kindness and care before releasing me once they were satisfied it was safe to do so. I am so grateful for the kindness and consideration at Pilgrim Hospital despite them being under pressure and I am so proud of them.

Review titled Such calm, professional care and obvious empathy
by zebrayj85 - Posted on 27 October 2023
I have just completed a six, three week cycle of chemotherapy treatment in the Chemotherapy Suite at Boston Pilgrim Hospital, Lincolnshire and I have received outstanding care from the team. Everyone who enters chemotherapy does so with both hope and trepidation. The team see a multitude of patients, which must seem like a never-ending avalanche but they show such calm, professional care and obvious empathy, compassion and devotion, that they make the day brighter and give you hope, making it feel like individual care from the perspective of the patient. Their care has been significant in setting my mind at rest and in giving me the best chance from the treatment. There are many times when the team are very busy but with a calm, quick, cheerful response the team works like a well oiled machine. For me it has been a joy and honour to watch them all work together so well and with such dedication. This applies to the whole team from reception to refreshments. My care has been much appreciated by this patient and I hope their efforts are fully recognised by the hospital. Overall the whole experience from diagnostic tests and interpretation from the consultant and his team, through to liaison with my GP surgery has been seamless and speedy and has been very much appreciated.

Review titled Lack of follow up from changes on CT
by Bereaved Mum - Posted on 16 January 2024
I have had a persistent cough and GP sent me for a CT scan. There were changes on my CT scan and I was advised to stop Methotrexate whilst waiting a respiratory appointment. I had pulmonary function tests which I was unable to complete. I then had an appointment for yesterday. When I arrived I was told the clinic had been cancelled. So I am still waiting for the follow up from my CT and meanwhile my RA is flaring due to stopping Methotrexate.

Review titled I have never had better service from health care professionals
by Leading Trackman Paddy - Posted on 30 October 2023
I was , understandably anxious arriving at Boston's Pilgrim hospital . The waiting room was well populated and there was a steady stream of people being booked in. I was checked over and sent back to the melee . Eventually I was called and was ushered into a preparation room . One of those natty gowns that do up the back was issued . Here there's a mild blank , twanging nerves I should think . Entering the preparation room the anesthetist was a pleasant calming characterful gentleman who explained what was going to happen . Questions kept on being asked name , address , allergies , and so on .the process from start to finish was , strangely , almost enjoyable , once the spinal had gone in I was warm and cosy from the navel down , the anaesthetist was keeping watch , there was some banter and everything went ahead with alacrity. I expect I had a snooze while it was all going on . Towards the end , I was more aware of surroundings but everything was great . Everyone seemed pleased .off to recovery, where you're regularly monitored through a measured period of time . More banter . Very uplifting. I still had no sensation below the navel. I was taken to a ward and made comfortable. Time passed , medication came and went .some time the following morning it became apparent that the pain control was not , either sufficient or working as it should , I seem to remember asking for more pain relief . Then physio turned up , and seemed shocked that I couldn't do their exercises, get them in , get them moving , get them out , seems to be their mantra . I'm afraid I may have been unintentionally brusque with one of them , the pain in moving was unsupportable . Back to bed . Pain meds doubled . Later it was discovered I'd contracted cellulitis on the operated leg a risk I'm informed , with diabetes which I have , type 2 . So more meds . As time passed I managed a small amount of sleep about 8 hours over maybe 3 days .and so it progressed . The occasional visit from physio , and care from the staff . Ward moves abounded for a while there was a general shuffle quietly damaging moral and to an extent , patient care . Here I'm going to make a firm statement . All through this experience I have never had better service from health care professionals . Everyone from the cleaners , health care , nurses , auxiliaries, physio , the people who cleaned up my mess , the ones who came around with their dogma , ( if it's honestly offered any dogma has the same weight as another ) the anaesthetic department , the surgeon and his team , the people who came in the night or day , the ones offering tea . I would thank you all by name and recognise the comfort you gave me and in some cases humour and banter . The young lady who wasn't sure of her worth was doing a great job so we had a talk and I gave her a speech I'd once given one of my beloved daughters . Should I have world enough and time I would visit you all . A hero of mine used to sign off " Love light and peace " Or " Health , wealth and happiness " Take your pick . Sincerely

by Zielski24 - Posted on 20 October 2023
Had a routine check and internal, The staff were the best I had come across, they were professional, friendly, helpful and had a sense of humour, a must when you're having an internal with 5 other people in the room.

Review titled Kind staff make all the difference
by sagittarius69 - Posted on 19 October 2023
The staff made me feel relaxed and talked me through everything that was going to happen, how it would feel and reassured me in every way possible, I cant thank them enough, its never easy going for any procedure but when the staff are as kind and thoughtful as they were on Ward 1B then it makes all the difference.

Review titled Did not get my op
by Tirde67 - Posted on 19 October 2023
Arrived early to the day surgery ward. Sat in waiting room as no bed. Footstool given as had to elevate leg. Candula put in, blood everywhere, nearly passed out. No care taken. Arm swelled. Was told specific time for my operation, as diabetic and needed latest cut off for food. I was sat and started to suffer with the shakes because no food. My wife phoned to say they needed to do something. Blood sugar taken and a cup of tea made when I begged for something as was shaking. People in waiting room moaning as being sent home and waiting for transport. Other patients in bed appeared to be refusing to go home and saying that so and so was on their MRI. Dr saying they will look and see them tomorrow. One patient decided to kick off as they weren't waiting anymore. I believe because they were kicking off they went straight down. I finally got a bed. Then told they had run out of time and I would have to have it done another day. I feel I lost my operation because other patients would not go home and another patient threw a tantrum. I finally got something to eat after 12 hrs. I was only one who did not get their operation. I don't think this is fair!!! I had come in. I have bipolar and took a lot mentally to get to where I needed to be for this op. I am on medication for pain and having wound dressed three times a week and now having to wait another two weeks for op. I feel this is all because of a tantrum from another patient which staff gave into. I believe this patient was given my slot. Also people who will not go home. Is Pilgrim a hospital or a fully incusive hotel???

Dear Tirde67 Many thanks for your comments and may I apologise for your experience on day ward on this occasion. Unfortunately the department has been under significant bed pressures caused by the excessive demand on the emergency department and patients requiring emergency admissions. This has then impacted on the planned surgical admissions. The staff in the department explored every option and tried everything within their power to give all the patients requiring admission beds which included trying to prepare patients for their surgery in the waiting area so that if a bed became available we could quickly transfer them to theatres and save time. However in your case this did not work and theatres still ran out of time. Patients do appear to go down to theatre at different times as there are 10 operating lists running at any one time with operations finishing at different times and different speciality surgeons operating. Please be assured that patients go down to theatre in order of a planned operation list and not simply if they shout loud enough. May I once again apologise for your poor experience on this occasion and trust that we can provide you with a positive one on your next date that will be provided to you. Kind regards Sam ( Matron for TACC)

Review titled I was terrified but they took time to explain everything
by dancern75 - Posted on 06 October 2023
The staff were kind, caring and took time to explain everything to me about what was happening and why and this helped to put me at ease. I was terrified about the bone marrow biopsy procedure I had to have but the doctor was so understanding and this helped me to trust him. Thank you to everyone who dealt with me.
