  1. Review titled Exemplary efficiency and care.

Rated 5 stars out of 5

My 19 year old Leeds student son attended ED last night with complications from glandular fever and tonsillitis, bleeding quite heavily. As someone who is never ill, this was terrifying for him. He was assessed immediately in the rau and by the time I had arrived (2 hours down south) he had already been admitted and treatment commenced. I work in an ED myself and wanted to express how amazed I was with the care and efficiency from all the treating/ supporting staff, including the ENT team (he tells me the on call consultant attended extremely quickly). You really are incredible. Thank you. Very impressed!

  2. Review titled Exemplary

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I recently left hospital following my second awake crainiotomy which was a success. I probably met around 30 different members of staff from different fields and they all treated me like I was their number one patient. I want to give special thanks to my surgeon and speech and language therapist whom without, would have made the whole experience more challenging and worrying. They both reassured me before, during and after the operation and I can not recommend them enough, truly. Continue to do your wonderful work improving and saving lives.

  3. Review titled Shocking

Rated 1 star out of 5

Advised to take 86 year old mum to A&E after fall. Waited 4 hours, passed from pillar to post ( signs and directions appalling) before being told at midnight that it would be 6 hours at least to see a doctor. Miserable staff making no effort whatsoever to assist a frail woman in considerable pain. Unable to cope with the wait through the night we discharged ourselves and went home with no idea what to do next.

  4. Review titled Rude A&E Receptionist Staff

Rated 2 stars out of 5

Attended A&E with my uncle suffering from stage 4 throat cancer who arrived by ambulance. Waited 6 hours for a doctor and upon leaving the hospital at 1am was told to go back to the A&E reception to change his address as the ambulance had arrived initially at the wrong address. Approached the empty counter and before I even got to the counter and had chance to say anything was rudely shooed away by an old woman with grey hair and glasses, told to go sit and wait as she was doing something. She said this in a very patronising way as though I was a burden on her, as someone who works as a receptionist myself for the NHS I would never dream of speaking to a patient / anyone like this, I think she needs reminding of the leeds way values! Didn’t get chance to get her name as I was so taken a back and didn’t want to bother her anymore i quickly left the department.

  5. Review titled Outstanding care

Rated 5 stars out of 5

firstly the whole surgical team under mr gummerson, including the anaesthetist physio, registrar were outstanding, fully explained the procedure, caring and patient. the nursing team in l24 were exemplary including the nurses, catering and cleaning. a special thanks to jas and the night team. in terms of the team they were amazing however they are clearly under enormous and unreasonable pressure in my humble opinion from lack of joined up processes, very poor it that is not allowing data to flow efficiently and causing unnecessary duplication and time wasting. thanks to you all you were amazing.

  6. Review titled Children’s blood services

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I visited the children’s blood service on Brotherton Wing as my daughter had been referred for a blood test. My daughter was extremely anxious and nervous. The two phlebotomist immediately put my daughter at ease. They were very patient and worked very efficiently to get the procedure completed. 5 stars to these members of staff.

  7. Review titled Fantastic staff

Rated 5 stars out of 5

Came in with a dislocated shoulder (also fractured glenoid), I was given appropriate pain relief promptly and was assessed, xrayed, had it put back in, x rayed again, seen by the doctor and given a prescription to go home with all in 2 hours. The doctor, nurses, and porters were all lovely - attentive, kind, professional and positive. I’ve had very traumatic A&E experiences before so had a lot of anxiety going in but everyone made me feel very taken care of and I am extremely grateful for all of them.

  8. Review titled You saved my life - what else matters?

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Alan Noel Perkins - Posted on 26 March 2024

I almost collapsed in reception, could not breathe and honestly believed I was not going to make it. Thankfully, the lady receptionist on admissions leapt into action and got me straight through to the team before making my wife fill out my details. It may only be another day at the office to you guys, but the care and professional treatment I received could not have been bettered. With your help and the aid of nebulisers etc, you brought me back, when both myself and my wife genuinely believed this was a major problem. I suffer from Copd and Asthma, I also have other health problems ‘so it could have been reality, that I could easily have died. I had never before experienced Copd problems so acute as I was a bit naïve about the condition. I have to thank you all again for your help, After 4 days, I am now back home. I also want to thank those patients who had to wait even longer to see the team (after waiting who knows how long), just for me to jump the queue. I heard nobody complain, which I would have expected, and I hope they all got seen very soon after and I feel sure that they will have received the same magnificent care that I had. One final point I would make is how appalled I was, when on the ward, I heard so much verbal and racist abuse from other patients who were shouting, swearing and carrying on at the very people who were trying to help them. In two cases it was simply because they didn’t get a nicarette spray! One man in particular who was being aggressive over such trivial matters was so bad, myself and other ward members were suggesting security remove him from the hospital grounds, but the staff just got on with it and continued to give him the best care and attention. That is dedication! People have to realise, this is a teaching hospital and many of the staff are only weeks or months into a job, and many come from other countries (thankfully) and often struggle to be understood, but they are still doing everything they can to help the very people who look down on them and abuse them. Thank you all so much in Leeds General Infirmary A&E, Wards J27 and 84 at St James. To me, you are all legends!

  9. Review titled fantastic care

Rated 4 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 08 March 2024

A visit to children's a and e followed by a trip up to a ward to be monitored. Staff were lovely - very helpful and reassuring. The care from the staff at LGI cannot be faulted. The only downside to our visit was the time waiting for different departments to work together. We waited more than four hours to be transferred to a ward, and then waited another four hours the next day for medicine to be prescribed so that we could go home. I know that hospitals are busy, stretched and totally underfunded, but the time we waited must have cost far more than it needed to.

  10. Review titled Long uncomfortable wait

Rated 2 stars out of 5

The NHS is slowly losing all it was. I came in as I had a sore which turned into an abscess on my abdomen, I’m on immunosuppressants so infections can be very dangerous for me. It took me an hour to get sent through to Illness department of A&E, I was then waiting over 2 and a half hours to be seen whilst feeling fatigued and nauseous. I had one person coughing their lungs up with no care about covering themselves, another chewing and spitting out nails. I think Masks should be compulsory in this setting. I was finally seen and sent to boots for some antibiotics. I don’t know if it’s a lack of staffing or resource but service is in the gutters at the moment.
