  1. Review titled We worry whether our dad will actually make it out of here alive.

by Anonymous - Posted on 24 June 2025

My dad was admitted to this hospital some weeks ago. They constantly forget/ignore that due to his stroke, he is non-verbal. The other day dad was trying to take off his top which he needed some help. Dad was quite clearly looking over and trying to gesture to two HCAs who were both sat down by the computer (not on it), one on their phone and the other just plainly ignoring him. Being that he can't verbalise and he was staring over at them, I think it was pretty obvious he wanted help. But what's a patient when you have an exciting Facebook post to reply to? This also ties in with another repeated 'go-to' for this place in that they are 'short staffed.' Why are staff even allowed their own mobiles when on duty? This is surely another risk to patient safety. Avoidance is also another behaviour demonstrated in bucketloads here. Trying to find a doctor or nurse with knowledge of my dad's case and next steps to get him out of this farcical setting is like looking for the Holy Grail. And if you do find one, then it appears that a positive plan is skirted around. He is no better off than he was when he first came in here. In fact, he is probably worse. Apparently he is supposed to have physio but no, he doesn't really. Unless you count, as the staff seem to do, not much more than a trip to the toilet and two or three leg-raises as 'physio'. My dad seems to be left to waste away here. My dad now has covid. yes, everyone's old friend covid has returned to the ward/hospital which isn't surprising. However, this has afforded my dad his own side room. Unfortunately, he is rarely attended to and as already shown above, incidents such as his hypotension/low blood pressure and feeling unwell can go unnoticed and even if noticed, are simply ignored or not treated in a timely manner. I appreciate that the NHS and hospitals are underfunded/understaffed but when you witness occurrences and see little progress on any level of a loved one, as my family and I have done here at St Cross then it does little to align me and empathise with these grievances. We worry whether our dad will actually make it out of here alive.

  2. Review titled Fabulous outpatients with the best consultant

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Trudy Russell - Posted on 01 April 2025

The whole team from reception to the lovely volunteer tea / cafe just so very professional friendly and lovely . A fabulous hospital communicating the whole way through caring at its best for sure If every doctor spent time with the consultant then the nhs would half its budget as he listens , watches and talks with you . His diagnosis and lengthy consult sing all results prior to his apt means he is continuous in his care he misses nothing . He gives his care holistically thinking and using his expertise to give individuals a better outcome . I am so impressed and so grateful to have found this respiratory consultant after many years struggling .

  3. Review titled Excellent Service.

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I attended St Cross for CT scans on Saturday morning. I was welcomed by a very helpful member of staff who explained fully, everything that was to happen. I changed in the cubicle and was then prepped (cannula) ready for my scans. In the scan room the procedure was explained again with emphasis on ensuring my identification was correct. The scans went smoothly and my aftercare was excellent. The staff at all times were friendly and professional. They made the whole process a calm and pleasant experience.

I cannot praise the staff highly enough I came in for ankle surgery on the day ward and from the staff there to the theatre staff, I received what I would describe as true patient centred care, the like of which I haven’t seen in the nhs for a long time, this place is truly a gem, I cannot thank you all enough, the anaesthetics team and ward staff put me at ease and whole process was seamless, thank you all so much.

  5. Review titled Blood Test

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I haven’t been for a blood test in many years and suffering with an anxiety disorder makes them even scarier. The nurse that looked after me today was amazing! She put me at ease straight away, kept me talking and occupied the whole time to keep be distracted from what was happening. She is also the only person able to find my veins straight away which made the whole experience a lot more manageable.

  7. Review titled Pleasent until I was continuously ignored

Rated 3 stars out of 5

Rugby hospital is overrated. I asked 3 nurses about having an extra pillow for me neck. Jeez freaking grab a pillow! It's not heavy lifting. I'm glad u never had any expectations. It was also unfortunate they don't serve hot meals. It's of no use being kind before surgery and then being an ignorant knob after.

Hip replacement. Arrived at Rugby St Cross at 7:00am and immediately taken to a reserved bed with all the gowns, etc laid out. Visited by numerous staff (ward nursing, anaesthetist, registrar, Therapy and a magical surgeon) who explained the procedure for the day and put me at total ease. 9:30am taken to surgery. 11:30am hip replacement op complete and on recovery ward.(I stayed awake throughout the operation and did not feel a thing). 2:30pm walking on crutches. The Therapy team made sure of that!!! Home early evening with all meds and recovery/exercise instructions. An amazing experience created by a fantastic team of true professionals, I even had a kiss and cuddle from the lovely Ward Sister when leaving for home. Don’t know how these guys do it for the money. Lovely hospital and it will be my first choice for future procedures. Life changers. I can’t express my heartfelt thanks enough. Thank you

  10. Review titled Excellent staff in outpatients

I had a screening appointment for a colonoscopy today. Easy to park (and relatively cheap!), and the staff member was professional, helpful and friendly. Even better, they were able to offer the test in a couple of days. The NHS at it's best.
