  2. Review titled Really good consultation

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I had an appointment with a Renal Cell Cancer Consultant at the hospital. It was a very positive experience. He was friendly and provided the information I needed to know in a way that was easy for me to understand. He took the time to listen to my concerns and helped me think about the options available to me. Only negative was I was sent to the wrong outpatients area initially - a blip in the computer system, but it was sorted out by a helpful member of staff

  3. Review titled Fabulous team on Ward 2

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Annie Kendall - Posted on 19 March 2023

Partial nephrectomy by robot assisted laparoscopic surgery for me was a good. Pain from that was just uncomfortable, a niggle. All credit to the surgeon and his team. I had expected bad pain after having a kidney cut in half, but from coming round in recovery up to this morning, day 7, it's all been good. Pain from the carbon dioxide gas inflation of the abdomen, Oucha! Now that was uncomfortable. My back & shoulder were so painful. It was bad, but the Ward 2 Team are fantastic and pain relief was there when I wanted it. By day 4 it was just uncomfortable, by day 5 a niggle. I loved hearing the Ward 2 shift change, the staff always greeting each other warmly and with many laughs and on occasion kind words of support and comfort, it raised my spirits everytime. The Ward had such a homely, family feel to it. At times I was scared, but I was never worried, the staff were attentive and feeling scared passed quickly. I'm a very active person, not sporty active, more can't sit still. I was able to leave the ward and go for a walk when ever I liked, this really helped my post op recovery physically and mentally. If I ever have to stay in hospital again the ward team there will have a really high bar to reach to surpass the care I received this week at the Freeman's. I must mention Ward 1 where I was admitted on day 1. A lovely team again and they really helped me to calmly wait for my surgery. The anaesthetist and his team, what a great bunch. I was definitely chuckling about something as I went under and I think I was chuckling still when I woke. All in all, stars to rate with, ain't enough in the sky for that. Thank you for looking after me, I feel great because of it. I wish I could remember everyone's names and put them all on here, but I'd be horrified if I missed someone out. Don't ever stop being amazing.

My ENT surgeon and anaesthetist were both incredibly reassuring, welcoming, kind and patient. The nursing staff on ward 10 were so polite and comforting and I am so grateful for their time and work with me today.

  6. Review titled No calls are ever returned

    by Scorpio47 - Posted on 03 March 2023

Recently through doctor's secretary I have supplied two telephone numbers and on numerous occasions have been told that contact couldn’t be made. First a landline was supplied then a mobile. I have had the same numbers for years and have received hundreds of calls with no one complaining they couldn’t reach me. I have had no trouble phoning the hospital to say yet again another phone appointment has not been kept but evidently, the radio waves from the hospital to my home in North Heaton don’t work as well. When I challenged them to phone my number as soon as I put the phone down they refused. Last year before a holiday I phoned on numerous occasions for information which at the time was important to me. No calls were ever returned. As a heart patient it makes you feel not just vulnerable but isolated as well. Do I believe them over the phone calls? Well let me put it like this. I feel like the teacher who asks for the pupil's homework and is told the dog ate it!

  7. Review titled Great service

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by ROBERT WILLIAM RENNISON - Posted on 08 January 2023

Admitted on 2nd for TAVI I can only applaud the full team connected with the operation. In addition the 2 ward nurses on the day of the op were excellent and this should be recognised; particularly since another patient at the same time was continuously rude and abusive to them and about all aspects of the Hospital as well as using fould language.

  9. Review titled Brilliant care

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Lisa McAdam - Posted on 25 January 2023

As much as I hate hospitals, the was one of the least stressful experiences I have had. All the staff were friendly, professional and understanding. They were really human and treated me as such. My consultant sat with me and my mum and together, we made a decision on the procedure. He listened and understood our concerns and changed the plan for the day. He was amazing! Even during the procedure, he took the time to ask if I was ok and to reassure me that I was doing well. Everyone on the ward commented on the friendliness of the staff and honestly felt better for having the extra attention they were given. The ward was peaceful and stress free. Unlike other hospitals, phones were answered on the first ring, rather than being ignored and left to ring until the caller gave up and hung up. I honestly cannot rate the staff high enough.
