  1. Review titled Miserable routine pregnancy scan

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 15 November 2023

Couldn’t have been left less impressed by my rushed and disappointing appointment. I usually go to a different hospital but due to limited appointment availability I unfortunately found myself here. Honestly felt like I was a bother on the sonographers time. My appointment wasn’t until 3:40pm, I was seen slightly early and probably no more than 5-7 minutes later I was done and out ahead of my set appointment time at 3:35pm with a failed scan as they couldn’t get the right fetal position. Perhaps if they spent a bit more time with me jumping or wiggling then we may have got the baby in the right place - especially since we hadn’t even started my official appointment time yet so would have had plenty of time for this. They also never offered an internal exam which my usual hospital has done, that also would have provided a better view. A shame it seemed the sonograher just couldn’t be bothered. At my usual hospital my appointments started late both times which although is a slight inconvenience, I was never rushed and had a thorough scan myself, and I would much rather wait an extra 10 minutes and feel confident and trust the sonographer has been thorough rather than be in and out early but left with a rubbish result. I also am now not able to do the screening tests I wanted, again had the sonographer just spent a little longer maybe we could have managed it. But she clearly didn’t care. The heartbeat was also played for the first time, for all of 4 seconds as a background noise before she hurried onto the next thing which is also massively disappointing as I had been looking forward to that. I get that this is a medical procedure and a certain amount of tick boxing is required and you only have so much time with a patient, but my gosh, is a smile and a small degree of nicety really that much of an impossibility? Bed side manner is also part of the important role played. I have had such lovely experiences at my usual hospital with two different sonographers who made me feel comfortable, at ease and took the time to explain what we could see on the screen and honestly just treated me with care. Which is what I expect from a caring profession. So disappointing and I hope I never have to go for any future scans here.. I’m worried that it will be my birthing hospital as that will be an incredibly anxious time and I dread how it will be if the team treat patients in any way similar to my experience.. I am honestly quite anxious and worried now, more so than before. It can also feel very hard to speak up or question the staff as there is a significant power dynamic between patient and medical professional, so I was left feeling so crushed afterwards and regretted not asking for a bit more time or to try internal but I didn’t feel comfortable to.

Excellent service all round from point of referral to the breast clinic at the Conquest Hospital. Consultation, mamogram, ultrasound, cyst aspiration and follow up all completed efficiently in around two and a half hours. Staff all lovely and very caring which made me feel at ease. Couldn't ask for better.

  3. Review titled Disheartened and disappointed.

Rated 1 star out of 5

As somebody that works within the NHS I get that everyone is overworked, understaffed and underpaid but I was shocked when I attended A&E via ambulance and was treated so poorly and with complete disregard. My partner had to go and get the assistance of doctors as I had another medical episode in A&E and my nurse call bell was broken so I couldn’t call for help myself, and the staff were huddled out of eye sight. He was thankfully on his way back from the toilet and managed to catch me before I fell off the bed. Unfortunately the consultant who was on shift and came to my bedside begrudgingly, then proceeded to tell me that the episode I had suffered was because “you want attention.” I have been diagnosed with a medical condition and I’m currently under investigation for the cause of these episodes and to have someone tell me that I have essentially feigned them for attention is barbaric to me. I have never felt so humiliated in all my life. I was so disheartened by this, the consultant then discharged me with no follow up. I have since had another episode and as a result of this situation alone and feeling so humiliated I declined hospital attendance. I have always praised the Conquest and was always proud to work within it. It’s unfortunate that this situation has tarnished that for me.

I had a gastroscopy in the endoscopy unit yeasterday. I cannot praise the staff enough they were all so kind and supportive. Being a little nervous, they completely put my mind at ease and looked after me brilliantly. The anesthesiologist's even checked on me afterwards. Amazing!

  6. Review titled Rude staff

Rated 3 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 03 September 2023

I have had very good experiences in the past but recently saw a Very rude paediatric nurse who dismissed my explanation of why we were there before I had finished, , wouldn’t look at me when we spoke and ignored my child when they spoke to him and appeared like they didn’t want to be there. Dirty equipment from the previous patient was left on the bench where they told my child to sit NHS direct sent notes direct to the hospital before my visit whilst I was on the phone but they said they didn’t have them

  7. Review titled Hard working staff

Rated 4 stars out of 5

by Liz Child - Posted on 25 September 2023

Overall a positive experience, but waiting 5 and half hours to see the doctors is a long night. I was very disappointed to see the lights being switched off in the children’s a & e. There were many mentally and physically sick adults waiting to be seen. Children should be kept separate. I saw a few frightened little faces. As there is a separate room, why close it in the evening

Dear Liz, Thank you taking the time to leave feedback following your recent attendance to our Emergency Department (ED). We are sorry however that there was a longer waiting time then we would like for you to be reviewed by a doctor. In terms of your observations about the lights being switched off in the paediatric area of the ED, our Head of Nursing for Emergency Care has explained that out of hours the room is often closed once the paediatric nurse cover has finished to ensure that patients not deemed suitable for that area enter this waiting to be seen. However the room can be opened at any time by reception staff if there are patients appropriate to use this waiting area on a 24/7 basis. We are am sorry this did not occur on this occasion. As a side note, we are also reviewing the paediatric nurse cover in the ED and hope to move to a 24 hours rota some time in the new year.

  8. Review titled No patient care

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 16 September 2023

Check in iPad difficult to use if you are in pain or impaired. Reception don’t help and make you feel stupid. The staff behind reception are rude and unhelpful even when asked for assistance. Patients have to help other patients in need ie Having to get a wheelchair for an elderly lady who was fainting. Staff didn’t offer any help. I was told as well as others that calling 111 prior to attending AE was pointless by the receptionist. Reception staff seem to loiter and chat on their phones instead of doing any work. The triage nurses are abrupt and make you feel like a nuisance. On a positive note the Gp doctor was very helpful and had good bedside manners.

  9. Review titled Professionalism and kindness at its best

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Andrea Hanagarth - Posted on 05 October 2023

My stress levels went through the roof when I first came to the Urgent Treatment Centre as I found the self check in procedure onerous and stressful, despite being a regular and competent computer user. It added considerably to my agitation about having to seek urgent medical advice and not feeling well. However, the attention and care I received by all the staff I came into contact with over the next few hours more than compensated for that initial negative experience. I was treated with courtesy, kindness and total professionalism. Each member of staff was so friendly and reassuring, speedy without rushing. I hadn’t remembered that it was a strike day - the department was completely unaffected and ran smoothly and efficiently. Thank you to each and every one!

Staff would usually be available to help if patients are having difficulties with the self-check in service and we apologise that assistance was not offered to you. We were however reassured to learn that your subsequent treatment pathway was efficient and that you were treated with kindness and professionalism.
