  1. Review titled Aston Health Care closed due to training

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 21 March 2024

I arrived at Aston to make my warfarin order to find the practice closed. I would appreciate a notice informing me that Aston are in a training session please? I had to enquire at Boots along with two other people who were puzzled by the situation. I learned, also, no-one was manning the phones in the practice that afternoon for me to place my order. Please could you make it clear when your training sessions are. Thank you.

  2. Review titled Health risk to patients. No compassion what so ever.

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Craig George Moss - Posted on 24 March 2023

I never like to leave negativity but my recent experiece of this health centre was shocking. I attented twice with a re-occuring perenerial absess. Most recently last week. Both times met by 2 of the most uncaring nurses i have ever came across. No compassion what so ever and really bad attitudes. You can tell they just dont want to be there. Both times i was sent away. When i just needed surgucal referral. I decided just to go a&e who had me operared on imediatly. I cannot fault whiston hospital at all. I was told after procedure that if absess was left any longer i would have had to have a temperary stoma bag to fix the damage. Wow. I was referred to district nurses and told they would attend for wound protection. I am mobile and just assumed this was procedure. Was informed by the team on a phone call somone was coming out to me today (even given a name). I have just now recieved the most rudest phone call from another triage nurse at aston healthcentre basically telling me that "i didnt have an appointment nobody is down to come and see me & i shouldnt have been referred anyway. Told me to get to a walk in centre i am a grown adult and should be sorting it out myself". She then back tracked after i informed her ive had a phone call this morning & she was obviosly telling lies. Like they fobbed me off before the procedure they are now doing it afterwards. Honestly i am in shock. I have worked for the nhs myself for 12 years. Now if i was giving this attitude to my patients i would be ashamed of myself. I would say they all need re-traing. But then again you cant teach care & compassion. You have it or you dont. But i will say these triage nurses are obviosly in the wrong job. If you are reading this. Please get with another gp. Otherwise your bad health will end up worse.

Dear Mr Moss Thank you for your response. I have investigated the concerns you have raised. The Nurses you are referring to are not part of Aston Healthcare. You were referred to Community Nursing as part of the aftercare from Whiston Hospital. The calls you mention were from not Aston Healthcare. I have contacted the Community Nursing Team and I have been made aware that the Community Nurses will only attend the home of patients if they are housebound. I am sorry that you have had a negative experience and I hope in the future this will not happen again; if you would like to contact the surgery I would be happy to provide you with contact details for the Community Nursing Team to direct your complaint to. Kind Regards, Jennie Turner Practice Operations Manager

  3. Review titled Cannot book an appointment even 7 days in advance!

Rated 1 star out of 5

Staff are really friendly but unfortunately this is no good when you can't get an appointment. Apparently you have to call at 8am to try and get an appointment that day but cannot book one for any other days as they are all pre booked. Not an urgent appointment so don't want to take someone else's place who may need it on the day just want to book in advance but no chance either way. Never go the doctors which is probably just as well!

Dear Patient Thank you for your response; we welcome feedback both positive or negative so we can look to improve our services. We have recently changed our appointment system. We now offer a number of pre-booked appointments each day for the following week ahead. The remaining appointments are released on the day @ 08:00am. The pre-booked appointments are subject to availability and we are closely monitoring this each week. The on-the-day appointments are not deemed for urgent cases. We had a high number of DNA appointments previously for pre-booked appointments and this was one of the reasons they were suspended. We are reviewing the current appointment system regularly and if it continues to work well, more pre-bookable appointments will be available. If you would like to discuss your concerns further please don't hesitate to contact the surgery and I will be more than happy to speak to you. Kind regards, Jennie Turner Practice Operations Manager

  4. Review titled It is impossible to get an appointment

Rated 3 stars out of 5

Called in to pass in a sample that should have been organised 4 days before by 111. Got told nothing was on the system? I then asked for an appointment to be told there was none for that day. I asked for an appointment when one was free, only to be told they are not taking appointments over the reception desk? The receptionist told me she could not take anyone's bodily fluid samples if not in the system (bare in mind people were standing behind me?). I asked how am I supposed to see a doctor if I can't make an appointment only to be told she's in the same position as I am? How is that relevant. I got accused of raising my voice, to which I responded I have not once raised my voice," to which she responded 'yeah but you're not happy, are you?" Who would be happy confronted with that attitude. I'm happy for you to pull the cctv to view the conversation? 29/12/2022 at approximately 9 to 9.30am I said to tge receptionist that she was taking my displeasure personally. I felt provoked and decided to leave. I'm still in need of seeing a doctor and I would not go if not necessary. In the past month I've had covid, then strep and not once gone to a doctor. This practice needs sorting out as it's simply shocking ATM.

Dear Mr Griffiths Thank you for your review. I am sorry on this occasion you have had a negative experience with Whiston Health Centre, part of Aston Healthcare Ltd. We welcome positive and negative comments as we are always looking for ways to improve our services to our patients. We are currently operating an appointment system that offers a selection of pre-bookable appointments for the week ahead. The remaining appointments are released on the day at 08:00am. We also have evening and weekend appointments at specific locations available to pre-book. We would not normally take any samples over the reception counter unless it is documented in the patient record or has requested by one of our Clinical staff. If you would like to discuss any of the concerns raised in your review, please contact the practice directly and I will be happy to speak to you. Kind Regards, Jennie Turner Practice Operations Manager

  5. Review titled Gradually got worse

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 27 December 2022

Was once a very good practice, I have numerous conditions and required many appointments which when there was originally 3/4 doctors and a practice nurse appointment were easy to get. Over time surgery has very few or occasionally no doctors making appointments difficult,as well as having children who are unwell and being unable to get appointments for them, many practises offer late or evening appointments and priority to children however not this one. The whole waiting in a queue of 27 people at 8.01am in the morning(and when u reach position one at 8.50am the appointments have all gone ) trying to get your child or even yourself an appointment is appalling. The practice lacks continuity and consistency people rely on seeing the same doctors and build relationships with them as some issues are personal, no doctors seem to stay, furthermore admin staff shouldn't really be questioning your ailments in an attempt to direct you to the right people, if your ringing the doctors because you feel you need to see a doctor then it shouldn't be down to someone else to to make the decision whether you do or not. I understand this isn't a quick fix but aston is a group so are all surgeries suffering same issues if so why and if not why just our surgery.i hope it Improves

Dear Patient Thank you for your review. I am sorry on this occasion you have had a negative experience with Whiston Health Centre, part of Aston Healthcare Ltd. We welcome feedback both positive and negative and are always looking to improve our services to our patients wherever possible. We currently operate an appointment system which includes a selection of pre-bookable appointment for the week ahead and the remainder of the appointments are released at 08:00 each day. We are closely monitoring the appointment system and I will ensure your feedback is given to Senior Management. Once the appointments for the day have been booked, we then look to other sites for availability and also will signpost people to the Walk-In Centre or NHS111. We have an automated message on the telephone to stay on the line if your call is urgent or for a child. We also have a selection of evening and weekend appointments that started in October 2022. These can be pre-booked. We currently have 4 part-time GP's and 1 part time Advanced Nurse Practitioner at the practice all of whom are long-term. When any of the clinical staff are on annual leave for example we would look to source a Locum GP to cover to ensure we still have access for patients to make an appointment. Our automated telephone message informs patient's that Admin staff may ask for some information when booking an appointment. Please be assured this is so we can ensure you are booked in with the correct clinician, this is not to be nosey. If you would like to discuss any of the concerns you raised, please contact the practice directly and I would be happy to speak to you. Kind regards, Jennie Turner Practice Operations Manager
