Review titled Awful Practice
by Whitney Barnes - Posted on 13 May 2025
I am completely disgusted and shocked by the service I have received. I met with a DR who firstly, didn't have access to my medical history, which is worrying. I was bpd in January 23. This was not on her record, as she ''couldnt see that far back''. She then asked my why do I think I have BPD and not just depression, or even ADHD. I told her I have been thrown anti-depressants by so many doctors who do not have the capability to deal with BPD and one in particular I had in the evening made me so groggy the next day (i drive an hour to get to work). By the end of the appointment, she told me she would put the request in for my medication that day (this was Tuesday) and that my medication would be ready by Thursday. I rang, Thursday and they had not received the request. I rang Friday, they still have not received the request, I call the hub who says that the DR did not put the request in yet, but the receptionist would do it for me as she knew that this was quite urgent. Come Monday, I get to the GP to pick up my medication who say that the DR has only requested 7 days' worth of medication...this is pointless!! I have BPD which is a lifelong condition, not just 7 days. I have then rang the hub to speak to the DR who said ''oh okay I will put you up to 50mg and request another 7 days'' I didn't ask for a higher dose, I asked for more than 7 days to help with my BPD moods. Today, I have then called the DR as the medication I was prescribed was evening medication which again, has made me so groggy today, and unable to get out of bed, and made it dangerous for me to drive to work. I have called the hub at 09:00AM and I was referred to staff, who when I asked for more than 7 days and a day time medication, spoke over me and gave me so much attitude and was very rude. She was deliberately trying to brush me off and get me off the phone saying things like ''well i cant help with that'' ''you'll just have to wait'' I then called her up on it and said why are you talking to me in that way, I am requesting a change in my medication which I am well within my rights to do. She then hung up on me. I then called back where I was faced with an even ruder member of staff whose name I did not get, she did the exact same she said '' i am not speaking to you about this the doctor will call you when they're ready '' and refused to let me speak and then hung up on me. I am disgusted that as a mental health service; this is the kind of staff that you employ. Rude, entitled and clearly have no care or consideration for any patients. It has taken a lot for me to get help for my BPD and it is the hardest thing to live with, now that I am finally brave enough to come forward and ask for help I get met with horrible and rude staff at your vicinity who just wanted to get me off of the phone as quickly as possible. It's hard enough dealing with this illness let alone being brushed off and made to feel worthless for having it and requesting a change in medication.

Review titled Appointment booking procedure is a joke
Rated 1 star out of 5
by C Maynard - Posted on 17 January 2025
I tried to book an appointment with this surgery and it's an absolute joke. Once I worked out how to do it and which form I needed there is such a short window to complete it that I had to rush through it. If you're lucky/fast enough to actually submit your request the information you give is largely ignored when they give you an appointment. I requested a certain time window, they ignored it. I requested a call, not a text, as I'd be driving, they ignored it and text anyway. I didn't read that text in 10 minutes, I lost the appointment. Called the surgery and got the stock answer that it's always someone else's fault. It's the surgery's fault- find a better system! (Perhaps if you had some full time GP's you'd be able to offer enough appointments for the area you serve...). Not impressed at all.

I registered on the online triage service at 7.30am last Friday, received an appointment by text at 9.30am, attended my appointment at 12.15pm and had an appointment at the hospital - for the following week - by 2.30pm. I cannot fault the service at Westcroft Health Centre. Thank you to all involved.

Review titled A great first experience and an improvement opportunity
Rated 4 stars out of 5
by Chris Brown - Posted on 28 May 2024
I recently registered here after a house move. I have been lucky with three out of four gp practices in Milton Keynes over the years, so had high expectations. I was impressed immediately with the online triage for requesting care, this was new to me. I submitted a request at 7.30am and was called in to see a gp at 8.50 the same day, can't really ask for better service. I explained my concern and he sent an email to mkuh dermatology team as I sat there. I received mkuh treatment eight days later, it turned out to be urgent, necessary and effective. I subsequently received a phone call from my actual gp asking about the mkuh care plan, which is first rate, then asked me if I had any concerns. As it happens I was experiencing some very new symptoms, unrelated to dermatology, so I mentioned this. Turns out it was side effects from some medication I was taking, I had recently increased the dose to the recommended level, and did not think it would cause a problem. I followed the gp advice and reduced the dose again and side effects receded within a couple of days. I was particularly impressed that this was resolved over the phone, although I have had a follow up consultation now to review the medication again. Here is the improvement opportunity and it is a big one. Whilst waiting in reception, I notice the screen showing nhs services, which included the Mk Talking Therapies self referral option. Now, I having been looking for extra support from the nhs for a family member without success for quite a while. At the end of my GP face to face consultation, I asked about NHS services for a family member, who is not likely to self refer. I mentioned the Talking Therapies team, he just confirmed that I can't refer on a family members behalf. That was it, no other mention of relevant nhs support. So I did more online research, and set off in search of the local crisis cafe, the big new volunteer run government initiative. It is not sign posted from the road but I did spot an "Inclusion Centre" sign next to a school, so I went to reception to ask where the cafe was. Turns out is it an NHS wellbeing hub during office hours, so I received all the information I needed to help my family member in the time it took the receptionist to make me a cup of tea and listen to my request. It is self referral again, but the difference is that other family members can attend. Which is ideal, so we shall take that route. It is quite difficult to comprehend that this service has not been mentioned to either myself or my family member during any consultation with multiple health professionals, so the improvement opportunity is not restricted to this health centre, I would say. It is just more than disappointing that I didn't do this extra research earlier. Of course someone who needs that support is unlikely to do the relevant research at all. I am confident now that we will get the care my family member needs, from the service that has been established for two years to do so.

Much too difficult to get help. No one to speak to to help navigate services only directed to do it myself online. 0/10 from me.

I have severe COPD, the amount if times they mess up my prescription is unreal, I'm always chasing them. Say they will call back and don't, trying to get an appointment is like trying to get blood from a stone. I've even resorted to buying some meds online so I'm not without Would not recommend this practice at all....

I was very concerned when they went over to the new online booking system as we have had such a bad experience with a similar system at our mother's practice nearby. Well, I need not have worried as this seems to be working a treat and if anything my experience is better than before. I always get a quick response and have never had an issue getting an appointment, either in person or via telephone. The staff are always friendly and helpful! Well done Westcroft Health Centre. Keep up the good work, it is much appreciated.

Review titled Office not up to standard
Rated 3 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 16 May 2023
My experience with the office staff and the receptionists has been such that I'm sure they have reduced my life expectancy by several years. I think the team of doctors is good, some of the nurses are excellent, and I can't comprehend why the partners won't employ administrators to match their standards. Surely this should be much easier than the other way round?
