  1. Review titled Outstanding Practice

Rated 5 stars out of 5

Thirsk Doctors’ Surgery is an outstanding medical centre with a very high standard of professional holistic care. Being in my “twilight years”or I would rather call it “afternoon teatime”, I’ve needed more maintenance and have been extremely well looked after. Nothing is too much trouble. From my initial first visit, 3 years ago, I have always received a warm welcome from the receptionists, nurses and doctors and received outstanding medical and nursing care. Thank you.

Have always received supportive, empathetic and care that I felt involved in. My thoughts and needs were taken into account and have never been made to feel rushed or not fully listened to especially as have had some ongoing support needs.

  4. Review titled Amazing Service

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I took my dad for a health review as i was worried about his deteriating health. We were given a 30 min appt as there was lots to discuss and we were there much longer. Immediately we felt at ease as they took their time..showed empathy and really took their time with dad exolaining everything as they carried out numerous tests and put the wheels in motion for further investigations. Their caring nature and tone of voice was amazing and they explained everything nice and simple so Dad would understand. We werent rushed..they asked lots of questions and let Dad answer in his own time. The bedside manner was outstanding! Thank you

  5. Review titled Fabulous Doctors Surgery

Rated 5 stars out of 5

    by Mrs B - Posted on 31 May 2022

May 22 has seen all my family unwell and we have individually needed to speak with the Doctor. As usually we were offered first class service, from our first port of call with the receptionist through to speaking with the Doctor. We were called back most times within the hour from the Doctor whom not only prescribed medication but also offered to see us the same day if we so wished. I will also add that not all contact made to the surgery was first thing in the morning! Our surgery has currently gone through some major changes, which had proved difficult for all concerned, but not once when I spoke with any staff member was I made to feel that my query was not important or I was in any way an inconvenience. Thank you all your very much appreciated!

  6. Review titled Lovely team, friendly, helpful staff

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Abbie - Posted on 24 May 2022

I just wanted to write in about my experience in the surgery on the 12th May 2022. I rang the doctors to try book an appointment the morning of the 12th May for a possible ear infection I'd had a while, the staff on the phone when talking to me were all very lovely and efficient, asking for my symptoms, and even occasionally putting me on hold to consult with other staff, I was then booked in for a telephone call the same day, they couldn't give an exact time but somewhere before 11am. I promptly received a phone call back with a Dr about 9.30 and was asked if I could make it in to the surgery for 10.30 as they felt it would be best to check me over in person. Grateful someone could see me so quick, I went in. I checked in, with a lovely chatty on receptionist, I also had an NHS app question to do with a prescription, the receptionist had a look for me and was also unsure but found another team member to come have a look at it for me. I sat down in the waiting area and the other team member came out and had a look at the app and explained what they thought it meant and thought I should check with dispensary. Again, the interaction was very friendly and helpful. While seated the receptionist came out and informed me my appointment was running a little late and explained the situation, it wasn't an issue for me and I just felt it was really nice to be kept in the loop. I then went in to see the Dr and they welcomed me in, asking me to explain my symptoms. The Dr had a look in both my ears, and found the issue. They promptly resolved my problem, but also explained to me what they had done, the cause, what had likely brought the symptoms on, and how better to care for my ears. Never use cotton buds in your ears! I was amazed by how efficient the Dr was, resolving my issue right there but also just how friendly they were, and also how patient they was with me, taking the time to talk through and explain everything to me. At the end of our appointment the Dr asked me if there was anything else I needed, it wasn't anything urgent but I did have a query about something else, but I was worried I might be eating into someone else's appointment. They assured me it was fine and again I really felt like they took the time to have a look and also explain what it could be and anything to look out for if I had any further concerns. I felt very at ease after seeing the Dr. I then went round to dispensary to query my NHS app issue. The staff there again were very efficient and they explained what had happened in a pleasant manner. I then left the surgery, feeling much better and reassured. Anyway, I just really wanted to write in my thanks to the team at the surgery. I know first hand you are often under a lot of pressure and I just wanted to let you know that your team are doing an amazing job and from start to finish my experience in the surgery was met with friendly, caring faces and pleasant interactions with staff. So thank you again.

  7. Review titled Appointments

Rated 4 stars out of 5

The new policy for appointments is really substandard . The times for calling between 8 am and 10 am do not suit working people who may be travelling to work or indeed working The appointment offered was in the Friaridge hospital which given that I actually live 5 mins away from the actual surgery is really inconvenient as the person for whom the appointment is being made does not drive . I called just around 10 am and was on hold for over 11 minutes being number 3 in the queue . I have called in the past and been number 25 in the queue and in that case would have been expected to wait for 77 minutes to make an appointment . I hung up after 15 minutes ! Seriously this system is not working for working people . No -one should be driving 20 miles to see a doctor when they live a 5 minute walk away from the practice . On Monday when I need to contact the practice affinity for an appointment , I will actually walk round because it’s quicker than calling !

Thank you for your feedback which will be shared and discussed on a practice level. We understand the challenges working people may face to contact the surgery at these times. Telephone access is a challenge for us all with 7650 registered patients trying to access care. Could we suggest that you request an appointment using the practice website (www.thirskdoctorssurgery.co.uk) and click on the ‘online consultations’ tab? If you are restricted with the hours you can take a call or have a face to face appointment please specify this. In line with the government GP contract to extend access to primary care, with evening and weekend appointments, the practice works within the Heartbeat Alliance. Northallerton is the biggest town and healthcare hub within the area the Alliance serves and this is why the majority of additional extended hours appointments are provided there.
