I had an appointment for a blood test this morning. I am always nervous, but the healthcare practitioner immediately put me at my ease and was so efficient and deft that I was in and out in record time! I was very impressed.

Review titled Caring efficient service
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Barbara keast - Posted on 22 January 2024
I needed a prompt face-to-face appt due to a problem. I was seen at short notice by a very attentive physician who was pleasant, attentive and efficient. Tests taken and follow up contact by phone and text. I have had good service from this very busy surgery, over the past years with a few health issues.

I was treated with kindness and respect as a person not a “patient”. The procedures were explained to me and I was encouraged throughout. I was impressed by the speed of the follow up phone call.

Review titled Doing the job the best it can.
Rated 3 stars out of 5
by Ken P - Posted on 29 November 2023
My appointment time was missed/late. I didn't mind that too much. The clinical practitioner I saw was very professional, knowledgeable. empathic and compassionate. She clearly wanted the best for me, which encouraged partnering over my health management, rather than being told what to do! There was clearly a conflict between the time available in the standard ten minute appointment slot, which was, in my view, insufficient time to meet her needs and mine to exchange information. So we ran over time in order to get the real work done, beyond describing and dispensing I have great respect for the clinical practitioner; and can see the effect of time constraints on her and on the accumulation of delayed appointments. I wonder how much slack is built into the system to allow for flexibility. I am grateful for the NHS being there, but have concerns that is sometimes system driven, rather than responsive to people's personal needs as well as medical ones. I don't know if yhat's fair comment, it is my view though. Thanks for asking

Dear Ken, Thank you for your feedback. We are pleased to hear you had such a good experience with our clinician, our team work really hard to ensure this is the case. As a practice we try to build in flexibility where we can however, certain parts of the system, such as the number of appointments clinicians have and the length of time they are given, are relatively set. This is in order to ensure we provide enough appointments for all patients across the day. Sometimes appointments are moved around and squeezed in to try to address clinical need and this then impacts future appointments. If you would like to review this with us further, and in more specific detail please email us on contact.thewallhouse@nhs.net for the attention of our practice manager who can then investigate further. Many thanks, Dr Steely, GP Partner

Review titled Lack of care
Rated 2 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 21 February 2024
Three months ago I had a problem with my kidneys, I was sent for a blood test, then I was told to go onto 5mg Dapagliflozin for 1 month, then have my blood tested again and after the results of the blood test I would be put onto 10mg & this would happen within 6 weeks, but I have had 2 months of 5mg & blood test to see if I am able to take 10mg. 1st February I had my blood test and have not heard anything regarding this test & am not sure if I am going onto 10mg. I have been phoning Wallhouse Surgery for over 2 weeks to try & receive results to see what the outcome of my blood test was and whether I take 10mg or not. I am almost 80 years of age and I don't need all this hassle of trying to get some satisfaction and closure of my blood test, signing my prescription is such a big thing with Wallhouse, I realise they are busy and I am in my senior years but need to be looked after just as well as other younger patients. My experience with Wallhouse is not good, communication needs to be improved in order to give "patients" less hassle regarding test results etc. Signing a prescription takes only seconds and forward it to the appropriate chemist near the patient, its not rocket science.

Dear Anon, Thank you for your feedback, we are very sorry you feel that your experience did not meet expectations. Communication with patients is something we feel is extremely important so when this falls down we want to know in order to ensure we can correct any issues. The prescription service is a crucial part of our service which is more complex than it may appear. Safe renewal of a person's medication, reviewing of any relevant blood tests and oversight of any potential contraindications or interactions all occurs each time your repeat is processed, a new drug started or a dose change is considered. The staff involved are highly trained to ensure this happens as smoothly as possible but there are several points in the chain which can cause delay - may of which we have little control over. We would welcome the opportunity to discuss this further in person - please email us with more details about your concerns at contact.thewallhouse@nhs.net. Many thanks, Dr Steely
