  1. Review titled Outstanding practice

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I have two experiences to comment on in the last 9 days; I am incredibly impressed with both. For myself; I was seen by the GP almost immediately having called 111 previously. I was then referred to Stoke hospital the same day where unfortunately I needed emergency surgery. This was carried out the following day. Absolutely brilliant end to end. For my son: He was very unwell over a weekend. I saw a GP at 9am on the Monday. After a very thorough examination I was sent straight to the hospital and the Doctor had called them and briefed them ahead of my arrival. My son was diagnosed with pneumonia and treated immediately. Literally both the above conditions were potentially life threatening. Absolutely brilliant is all I can say.

  2. Review titled Terrible for anyone who actually needs help

Rated 1 star out of 5

Having had previous bad experiences with one doctor i requested to see someone else. Had a conversation with them and agreed what would be best to help me only to find out it had to be approved by the doctor i had had bad experiences with in the past. Needless to say it wasnt approved and the doctor i did see hands were tied. So she had to send me away suffering when she wanted to help. As someone who suffers from a life long chronic illness to be treated with such disregard left me thinking there is no where else to turn for help, no one should be left to suffer in such a way because their pain doesn't stick to the schedule another doctor thinks it should. What is the point in having other practitioners if they are not allowed to do their job. Sick and tired of being treated like a number instead of a patient in need of help.

Went to drop a sample in, arrived at 09.35 got seen at 9.49., only one receptionist on and a quee up to 6 people waiting. Service should have been where another receptionist came out but didn't.dirt practice walls have blue tac left on carpets dirty and unhelpful staff, needs a complete overall in decorating and staff as well as GPs Wouldn't recommend this at all.

I was very impressed with the evident care and concern the doctor I saw today had for both myself and other people in the surgery. Thank you

  5. Review titled Unbelievably poor practice

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Thomas - Posted on 28 March 2023

I have witnessed the reception staff being disrespectful, rude and unwelcoming on several occasions including personally. If a person(s) does not have the necessary traits befitting of working on the front line of the NHS then I would suggest a career change would be a solution. If there is a regular presence from the practice manager then why are the phones not being answered within the three rings (sometimes the phone has been ringing for 10 minutes), and why have I witnessed only ever one member of staff (and sometimes no-one on some occasions) dealing with patients when there are more staff members behind the reception discussing non-medical matters. There seems to be a negative culture within this practice that has declining for years. I find it staggering that the response from the Tardis would be to deny all knowledge of what is occurring and double down on the response that the reception staff are nothing but friendly and supportive. Wouldn't it be more conducive to actually recognise the re-occurring problem than simply dismiss it.

  6. Review titled Amazing Practice

Rated 5 stars out of 5

Myself and my daughter were away for a few nights at Alton Towers and she became very unwell during the early hours of the morning. I needed her seen and rang the surgery at 8 am, by 10 am she had antibiotics and was all sorted even though we are not registered at the surgery. 111 came back to me at 11.30 am as they were exceptionally busy and I’d rang at 3 am. Every staff member we came into contact with were beyond kind and so friendly both on the phone and in person. It’s the friendliest surgery I’ve ever come across and I’m a trained district nurse. They are all kind, caring and professional. Thank you all. You were amazing and beyond kind. Wow, you went above and beyond.

  7. Review titled Helpful, friendly, professional

Rated 5 stars out of 5

During an appointment with the nurse she took the time to inform me about another aspect of my treatment (relating to HRT) and gave me some useful and reassuring information. The follow up meant that I had calls with the dispensary and a receptionist, and all three staff members were courteous, helpful, and friendly. I appreciate the pressures all surgeries are under and wanted to express how grateful I was that everyone I spoke to was obliging and pleasant - and that as I patient I appreciated your courtesy and assistance. Thank you.

  8. Review titled Treat people how you would like to be treated

Rated 1 star out of 5

I was still sat waiting 45 minutes after my appointment time and considering this was an early morning appointment found this quite shocking. The screens alerting you when it is time for your appointment were not working properly, two were turned off and one was round the corner (luckily I had moved seats to actually see this). The verbal auto announcement was extremely low and couldn't be heard over the radio that was playing through the speakers. I have decent hearing though I fear for the elderly patients who would not stand a chance of hearing that. Upon appointment there was no apology for the wait, which after almost an hour of waiting would have been common decency. I work within the NHS myself and can appreciate the pressure that the services are under, but manners doesn't cost a thing. Also the waiting room does not look like a GP surgery, the main notice board is about the local foodbank, I understand that people may need to know about this though when in a medical setting it would be more appropriate to have medical information or access to medical services that would help patients. A poster about the foodbank would suffice. There are old flyers that have information about screening that were at the beginning of August which shows the tardiness of the upkeep of the reception area as they should have been removed when no longer needed. I have previously had problems with reception staff who have also been rude and more interested in finishing their own conversations than dealing with the patients who are stood waiting in line with whatever queries they may have. In all due respect that is what your break times are for, I know if myself and my colleagues were to act in the manner that the receptionists at this practice have, on more than one occasion, it would result in a verbal warning, minimum. As seen on other reviews that I have read, it would seem that many are greeting with the same, I would say respect, though unfortunately that is not what you are greeted with. The surgery has declined over the seven years that I have been a patient and it shows in many ways. Also in response to patients calls always being answered, I have stood at the desk and heard the phone ringing and witnessed it not being answered, again whilst staff have been just talking amongst themselves about anything and everything but work related and it does not make for a good patient journey. As the staff in question have been there for years I have no doubt there will be nothing that will ever come of this, just responses that when yourself or anyone of authority is in the reception area that the issues raised "do not" occur and if it was just one or two people that had said this you may doubt them and feel that they are just venting as they received poor service on one occasion. Though look at the facts and amount of times the issues has been raised. If it were a member of CQC in line on those days aforementioned then things may be different.

  9. Review titled Disappointingly Unhelpful

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 10 May 2022

This used to be such a lovely practice with friendly, cheerful staff who wanted to help. Two weeks ago I waited 20 minutes at reception whilst the only receptionist left the desk to buy lunch for someone in the waiting room whilst back office staff stood around chatting and told me I'd have to wait. Today I have spoken to two receptionists who look and sound like they simply don't care and have no desire to do anything to help. This service wouldn't be tolerated in any other sector, so why do we tolerate it from our NHS?

Review titled Dr KS Upton's Practice

Dear patient, I am sorry that you feel this way about the practice. We have an extremely friendly and supportive team who will go out of their way to support all of our patients. If I can comment on the points raised. The patient 2 weeks ago was very ill and we were waiting for an ambulance. The patient had already been waiting for 4 hours, hadn't had any lunch, and was feeling unwell. One of our reception team took it upon herself to ask the patient if they would like any food buying for them, and popped out to get it. The ambulance finally arrived (as there had been a very busy spell) at 20:00 in the evening, which myself and colleagues also stayed with to make the patient comfortable. As everywhere, there have been covid cases, and many surgeries, hospitals and general stores are managing the best they can on reduced resources. I work in the main reception with the staff and on both days, I was working on reception with the reception team, and It may well have been a situation where we were attempting to contact the ambulance service for an update on the ambulance, as the patients condition was deteriorating. If you would like to discuss I am more than happy for you to pop into the practice. Kindest regards Alexander Burton (Practice Manager)
