  1. Review titled reassuring experience

Rated 4 stars out of 5

by Susan Searle - Posted on 21 March 2023

good face to face time with a very pleasant medic who had time and patience to find out what was wrong, ask questions and do tests whilst explaining why in a conversational manner. So much better than a quick phone call. Luckily the receptionist recognised I needed to speak to someone that day and not in 3 weeks time

I called around 8.30 in the morning, as had recently a blood test. My results have been received but non of the clinical staff have updated me with my results or changed my medication dose.

  3. Review titled Ghost Practioners

Rated 1 star out of 5

This surgery has gone downhill during covid and has stayed there. Nothing has improved since then. 1) I called 111 with my symptoms who told me I should book a face-to-face appt. with my gp. When I called the surgery, they told me they don't have any appts. and directed me back to 111. 2) My father needs a medical form filled out as a requirement for his job. They have been sitting on it for two weeks and have not done anything. 3) My mother has been unwell for almost a month now, and they keep fobbing her off to patchs where it keeps saying to come back at 6am & 1pm every day, and still no appts. available. It's like they run on skeleton staff. They have 14 general practioners listed on their website, but never have any appts. available.

    Review titled The Ridgeway Surgery

From late November 2022, we made some changes to our appointments system. These were directly in response to feedback from patients and reception that there was difficulty accessing appointments, and that patients were often being directed to 111 and/or to call the surgery again at 8am the next day to try and get an appointment into the system. The changes we made were to expand our clinical team dealing with same day acute matters. This involved building on our model of having a single duty doctor, and having in place an additional support doctor as well as other healthcare professionals such as paramedics and pharmacists, alongside a non-clinician in a "Hub team". While this system has only been place for approximately 3 months, we have identified that we have reduced periods where we are needing to advise patients to contact 111 and that we are able to absorb more same day matters. We recognise that we can do more further in terms of proactive planned care. At the time of writing, there are follow-up appointments available for 2 weeks time but we are looking at better ways we can follow-up with patients to maximise the effectiveness of these appointments and increase the number of PATCHS we can accept

  5. Review titled Impossible to get appointments or talk to a Gp

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 31 August 2022

Probably the worst experience we have had with a Gp service, this despite them having so many doctors. They only have same day appointments with Gp & if you dont call at 8 (and wait 15 mins), you will not get an appointment. If you try using the new Patchs system to book an appointment or contact them during day time, then its unavailable and you are asked to contact them after 6 am next morning, it defeats the purpose of online system if you still have to wake up in the morning to contact your Gp. Will be trying another Gp very soon.

  6. Review titled Caller number 7 then cut off

Rated 1 star out of 5

My mother is completely bed-bound (surgery aware of this) and yet... In order for her to get a COVID booster we have been offered an appointment this Sunday or told that the roving team are very busy and they are unable to give an indication of when a vaccination can be given at home. Given that housebound patients are very vulnerable you would think they would have some policy regarding delivery. Unfortunately their telephone system lets them down and there has been no update on the recorded message since lockdown. Something needs to be done about this surgery. They have a number of doctors but maybe they just cannot cope with the number of patients they have.

  7. Review titled What is going on at this surgery?

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 01 June 2022

Before Covid - during Covid and now after Covid very difficult to make telephone contact. I can only presume that the practice is at breaking point and unable to offer an adequate service to the patients it looks after. As a pharmacist said to me today, this has put her under a lot of pressure. She is unable to get through with medication queries and she is faced with patients who in turn are unable to get medical help from Ridgeway Surgery. This practice needs a serious review in terms of service and some help to get back on its feet. This can only benefit those who work there and its patients who are reliant on their care.

Dear patient, Thank you for your feedback. I am sorry that you have had such a frustrating experience. We receive between 500-700 incoming calls per day and are always looking at ways we can minimise call waits and queuing time. We are a queue-busting option which will allow you to end the call and be automatically called when you are 1st in the queue. We are in the process of recruiting additional front line team members. We also offer the option - for those patients who are able to - to submit matters to us via our website using a service called eConsult. However we recognise this does not fully address the experience you have had. We are working closely with our frontline team to look at the best pathways for patients - for example when patients have a test - so they know the follow-up plan and means they will be contacted, removing the need for them to contact us to arrange this. We are working closely with our patient participation group to ensure that planned and suggested changes are tailored towards patient experience and maximum beneficial impact. We would like to investigate your specific experience further if you wish to email ridgeway.info@nhs.net with details. Once again, please accept our sincere apologies for the experiences you have had, Yours sincerely, Andrew Slater Practice Manager
