    At the most challenging and harrowing time in my mother in laws life, The Medical Practice at Ushaw Moor were outstanding. From the reception staff to the Nursing and Medical staff, nothing was too much trouble! The staff were receptive and responsive to her complex needs. The staff are caring, professional and friendly and applied themselves to her needs upon every occasion, at the point of contact. The support provided gave us great comfort and reassurance because her care, was seamlessly adjusted to meet her changing needs. As a family, we felt truly blessed. Thank you!

    Over the last few weeks I have found when contacting / visiting the surgery there seems to be a massive improvement with regards attitude/ service , the doctors involved have been excellent as has the care advisors who are now available, the practice nurses also, most of the reception staff now reflect concern when spoken to which in my mind is a vast improvement on what I’ve witnessed in the past, it seems staff have been re shuffled and at present I cannot fault the new system. Long may it last as it makes life a lot easier when medical help / assistance is required. I don’t know if it relates to the new head doctor if so well done Dr.

    It's impossible to get an appointment at this surgery. The only way is to call at 8am - which when you're not feeling well might be a struggle since you could well be asleep, right? I called at 8.15 and I was placed in a queue of 20. On previous occasions the queue was much smaller and yet I didn't get an appointment, so I didn't hold out much hope, but I held on. At the end of the queue, a message tells me that abuse towards staff would not be tolerated (I wonder why there's a need...) and thereafter, the line rings out. 20 minutes on hold, and nobody answered. They should be shut down for the service they provide, I wonder who they are helping if you can't even get through to reception. Completely hopeless situation and a broken system, which I am ashamed to be paying taxes for.

    I have been with this practice since birth, my partner is new to the area and registered recently. Both of us have had issues with the reception and admin staff being extremely rude and unhelpful. I had rang asking for advice and had my head bitten off by the receptionist who was very unhelpful, I put this down to her having a bad day. My partner rang a few weeks later requesting information on how to order a prescription and the receptionist was rude, quite nasty and very unhelpful. She made my partner out to be stupid to the point where he now wants to move to another surgery as he feels so let down by a service whos job it is to deal with distressed patients. I feel the front line staff need education on how to talk to members of the public who are in distress already and are having a very hard time. Surely their job is to be kind and caring? Maybe this person needs a new job where she has no public facing role. If you are looking to register with this surgery I would recommend looking else where.

    Went from being a solid practice, added long overdue online functionality during covid which eased burden of visiting - but recently shut that down, no longer take appointments, you have to ring at 8am - wait 90 minutes on a call - and then be told they dont have capacity and to go to an emergency room or try again tomorrow. No longer a functioning GP in your area when you have health problems that require medical care - deeply worrying and means going without basic care or losing your job spending half the week waiting at emergency rooms for GP matters. Avoid the area till they are functional again (if you can.)
