Visiting the nurse for my once a year ‘check up’ I was told the doctor would like to make a telephone appointment with me to talk about my heart and cholesterol. I agreed and would be available at a convenient time to fit in with the doctor. After much searching on the computer the nurse apologised when telling me that she was unable to find a telephone appointment available in May or June. During discussion she also told me that none of the doctors worked full time, also the work at the surgery had deteriorated over the years. I feel that this Health Centre is not doing what an NHS surgery should be doing or even caring.

I am sorry that we left this perception with you. It is fair to state we have been overwhelmed with demand, in line with all parts of the NHS. We do accept there have been difficulties offering a smooth service during the winter period which caused us to turn off our triage function, which meant we had to change our ways of working in terms of GP appointments available to book in advance. But we are about to bring back our triage way of working again and by going live with triage on 05 June 2023 this should manage far better urgent and routine demand and so free up more GP Capacity, which should address your concern. For the record a GP working full time means working 8 sessions. Our full time GPs are Dr Bailoor, Dr Taylor and Dr Dougherty. Other GPs work less than 8 sessions, giving good cover, but surely what matters is that we can offer patients the right level of support, hence a major investment in this year of far more nurse cover, with skills across all levels of care being invested in considerably. Thank you for your feedback and I am sorry we have not been able to sort for you on this occasion the issue you have commented upon, but we have plans to address this. Yours Sincerely Paul Carroll, Practice Manager
