  1. Review titled Great Practice so so far

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Karen Partridge - Posted on 27 March 2024

I changed practice to The Gardens early this year, and am so happy I did. My former GP was an absolute nightmare - impossible to get an appointment or get through on their phone line. Consequently, most of the time I just gave up, unless an emergency. I am now getting all of these non-urgent issues slowly dealt with at The Gardens. The reception staff are friendly and really helpful. If you leave a message online, you get a response really quickly. Thank you.

  2. Review titled Disappointing

Rated 3 stars out of 5

by Kellie - Posted on 12 September 2023

I asked for advice regarding a bite on my leg with my local pharmacist, she advised to take antihistamines which I had & monitor the situation (I’d drawn a circle around the infected area). She said if it gets worse I should contact my GP for antibiotics, which I did. I called at 16.22 & was informed that the surgery was extremely busy & the triage list was closed. I live 2 minutes away from the surgery so decided to go there & plead for a GP or nurse just to have a quick glance at the infected bite so that they could prescribe some antibiotics. Nobody could see me, not even the on call doctor as they were so busy. However, a lady turned up 15minutes late for her appointment, she was immediately seen by the GP….surely I could have had her appointment?? The receptionist advised me to call 111 I I felt unwell or go to the closest walk in centre. After discussing my symptoms with 111 they informed me that they do not have doctors there to prescribe…. This is the second time they have informed me of this. Please advise your staff. Also, because I had taken several Piriton tablets I was unable to drive to a walk in centre & had nobody to take me. After being a patient at your surgery since I was born, I feel totally let down. I pleaded with one of your junior doctors to just take a look, I was in shorts, it would have taken 3 minutes to assess & prescribe. I’ve always thought that my GP surgery was great at helping but you have really let me down. And, probably as a result I will have to seek medical advice from A&E as soon as I am safe to drive & possibly miss a days work. Thank you for being so in-accessible & uncaring.

Dear Kellie My name is Debra and I handle complaints at the surgery. We are grateful that you are a longstanding patient and that you have been happy with the service so far. As I am sure you appreciate, the demand on general practice is high and we try to offer a fair system of appointments to all our patients. I understand that you felt let down because the doctor would not see you straight away. However, we operate on a pre-bookable appointment system. We are unable to see walk-in patients but there are suitable services available in the area for your needs. For clarification you can pre-book your appointment in advance, if the matter is urgent we advise patients to call early in the day or complete an e-consult form on line. We can also arrange for you to be seen by our extended service, if you still wish to be seen please call and speak to the receptionist who will be happy to assist you. Practice Manager

  3. Review titled Avoid

Rated 1 star out of 5

I usually get an annual diabetes eye check each year as I have diabetes. I hadn't received an appointment for this year. I phoned the service provider up. They booked an appointment for me. I asked why I didn't get the automatic referral as in previous years and they explained that that was down to this GP surgery who must have cancelled the automatic referral. I would ask why they would do that but it is typical of how they work.

Definitely do not recommend this practice. Reception are rude and unhelpful. They lack empathy and they seem to act like they are the gateway to the doctors.

  5. Review titled Inaccessible doctors

Rated 2 stars out of 5

I had reason to seek medical attention three times recently. The earliest telephone/online appointments available at this surgery are 12 to 14 days in advance. If the matter is "urgent", then one is advised to ring at 8am the following day. I did this and waited over 20 minutes online without success. I went into the surgery to ask advice and was told politely by a receptionist to ask a local pharmacist who would "give me something" for the problem. I duly followed the advice. However, the pharmacist said antibiotics were needed and referred me back to the doctor. I asked to speak to the practice manager on all three occasions and was told she was unavailable. I am sure staff are doing their best but this practice no longer seems to be coping with demand or listening to its patients' voices, particularly those who have neither a computer nor an expensive mobile phone. I note there is a "thumbs up" symbol on the practice website to click to indicate one's visit was a positive experience. Understandably perhaps, there is no "thumbs down" option.

Dear Patient Thank you for your feedback. I am the Practice Manager and handle complaints for the practice. I am sorry that staff were not able to put you through to me at the time. The practice does try to accommodate all our patients who may not find accessing the surgery so easily and I am sorry that your experience was not a positive one. Patient demand is high and managing this can be challenging not only for patients but staff as well. We endeavour to assist our patients by signposting them to the appropriate care. If you wish to discuss this matter further please feel free to contact me. Debra Practice Manager

When I have called at the reception always staff have been friendly. My mum suffers from Alzheimers and the surgery has always been there for us. We could not ask for a better surgery.

  7. Review titled Impossible to see a doctor

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 20 August 2022

Doctors appointments are heavily policed by the reception team, who you speak to will dictate if you can secure a doctors appointment in the near future. If your situation is not deemed ‘urgent’ by the reception team the wait for a telephone appointment is 2 weeks. I’ve never seen a doctor in person at the surgery despite being a patient for 18 months. There is a push to interact with the doctors via the app and E consult forms which pretty much eliminates any follow up interaction/conversation with the doctor.

Dear Patient, I am sorry to hear about your experience at the Gardens Surgery. We offer urgent appointments on the day and the reception team follow a protocol designed by the Partners to help book appointments in the appropriate manner. 8. Review titled Awful receptionists

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 30 May 2022

The receptionists there can make you feel crazy and like there is no hope. They are rude and not helpful. They have messed up with my repeated prescribed medication twice and a s result I didn't have my pills for days. When I called them one lady said with a blaze tone, but you have them now right? And she suggested that I call the pharmacy and not the gp so the problem will be the pharmacy's. Also, I needed an urgent appointment lots of times, very often the case is that they cancel it and you ave to wait for weeks until someone calls you. A disgrace.
