Rarely attend the Surgery so was apprehensive when I had to call the practice just before Easter for an emergency appointment, I was seen the same day and provided with medication. Very helpful arranging the appointment and fantastic service when seeing the Doctor. Everything was done promptly. I’m extremely grateful for the service provided as otherwise I would have spent Easter in extreme pain or worse having to attend A&E

Dear Lynne Thank you for reviewing your original rating, comments and reposting. It's extremely helpful for us to be able to look into issues and try to resolve them. There are times when these issues are due to the additional software we use/are provided with therefore feedback and the opportunity to investigate helps us and other patients understand where things went wrong. Following your review and subsequent email we have had a group training session within our Admin Team to try to put back up processes in place and reported your comments to the provider so they can investigate any faults in their system. Thank you again for providing the additional details, I'm glad we could help quickly once we were aware and hope you are keeping well. Take care Kim Practice Manager

Filled in an online medical form re information on medication matters.but nothing after 4 days waiting.this happened to me before as well few months ago when I never had a reply, is something wrong with this system? Why direct people to use this service when clearly it’s not working.

Dear Anonymous Thank you for highlighting a potential issue with Online communications, however it is difficult to investigate without further information from you which would be inappropriate on an open forum. Please email thedow.surgery@nhs.net with your details, when you completed the form and a copy of the automated response you received when submitting your request, we will then engage with our supplier and try to establish were the issue has arisen. Thank you again for your time, we look forward to hearing from you so we can review the system and ensure other service users are not affected by the same issue. Kind regards Kim Simpson Practice Manager

  4. Review titled Reasonable service, good Locums

Rated 3 stars out of 5

    by E Cross - Posted on 24 January 2024

I avoid the doctors as much as possible, I usually find it hard to make appointments as phone calls do not work for me. Since COVID there has been no way to book online appointments, which has massively reduced the likelihood of me going in to be seen for some issues, despite their reoccurrence. I managed to call on 23/01/24 as I'd been sent home from work, and had a terrible cough. I saw a Locum Doctor who was simply wonderful, very thorough and explained things well. As she took my heart rate and BP (routine check of course) she noted that they were elevated. I have had several discussions over the last 7 years to discuss my abnormal heart rate and palpitations and have always been brushed off as it being anxiety. So it felt nice to be listened to. While these readings may have been due to my fever, I've been given guidance to track my heart rate, and suggested I come back once my chest infection has passed. It is just a shame this was a Locum doctor, as I know I'd like to see her again, but there is no guarantee

  6. Review titled Quick service

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 25 September 2023

Submitted an on line request/query and received a reply within 30 minutes informing me a Doctor would ring back. Again, within 30 minutes I had the telephone consultation and a prescription sent to my Pharmacy to pick up shortly. To me, this is Very Good service. I also had my Flu and Covid boosters at the weekend and again, very well organised.

  7. Review titled Poor prescription service

Rated 3 stars out of 5

by Jenny Walker - Posted on 20 July 2023

Put a repeat prescription in on the Monday rang up Wednesday to check it was going to the chemists my husband placed it in the prescription collection box and I was told that I had not requested it so therefore it had not been processed I told the receptionist that I would be without my tablets but was told that it would not be ready until Friday they didn't seem to care that it would make me ill to be without them this is not the first time this has happened so now I always put the form in an envelope with prescription written on it so really I cannot see the point in having the box to put them in if they are not going to be dealt with

  8. Review titled Just appalling

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 31 October 2022

Been trying to get an appointment since July. Ring every morning as the lines become open, to be told on the message that there's no appts that day and call again tomorrow. This happens daily. They are blaming long term sickness, but this has been going on for over 12 months. I am in the throes of moving GP Surgery now as this is just appalling service. I suggest the Dow gets a locum - seconds staff or recruits - but put your patients first. Worst surgery in Redditch. Avoid avoid avoid. I cannot believe that they can get away with not seeing anyone post-Covid. They should have made provision to start treating and triaging well before now. Really upset that I have been unable to see a doctor.

Dear Anonymous Thank you for your feedback, it is always helpful to receive feedback, good or bad as we can use this in a constructive manner to improve our systems if possible. It is difficult to investigate these incidents when you withhold your information therefore if you could contact the surgery via email thedow.surgery@nhs.net with your details we can investigate your concerns further. Unfortunately we have been hit with long term sickness and are still trying to cover these sessions by using Locums however there is a shortage of GPs but we do speak and see patients face to face every day, you are mistaken in your comment "I cannot believe that they can get away with not seeing anyone post-Covid" - I can reassure you that we ARE seeing patients. It is a very difficult time for General Practice at the moment however if an issue/problem is urgent we would never turn a patient away and would offer a call from a clinician in the first instance as that is our policy (and that of many other local surgeries). I look forward to receiving your email if you wish me to investigate anything for you. Kind regards Kim Simpson Practice Manager

  9. Review titled Prompt service

Rated 4 stars out of 5

by Satisfied patient - Posted on 30 June 2022

I called the Dow surgery for advice about an acute medical condition. I used the callback option and was called back within 15 minutes by a receptionist who took details and told me a doctor would call me back. A GP did indeed call me back within half an hour, and gave advice and reassurance. Overall a prompt and very satisfactory service.

  10. Review titled lucky if you get any service

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 31 May 2022

Ridiculous service. Telephone, online systems, available appointments etc all difficult to use/find/ no-one answers the phone. The NHS is not free - working people are paying for this service. Appointments cancelled, no other nurse to cover, no return to normality post pandemic, what happened to the early bloods appointments? Constantly fobbed off. Very poor service.

    Replied on 06 June 2022

Dear Anonymous Thank you for taking the time to review The Dow Surgery, feedback (good or bad) is used in a constructive way to improve services if at all possible. It is a shame you posted anonymously, if you can provide us with your details i.e. the telephone number you called from and approx. time/date we can investigate and ensure that there are no faults on our system so that other service users do not experience the same issues. If you would like to help us to action these concerns please email the details to thedow.surgery@nhs.net Unfortunately we have had/are still having issues around staff illness, especially clinicians therefore when your appointment was cancelled I am assuming this was at the time when two of our Nurses were unwell and the others were working so there was no cover available for us from within the team, we have no control of sick leave, this is not something we can plan for especially when it affects more than one clinician at once. Covid in General Practice has not gone away, as it appears to have done for nearly everyone else. We are still actively involved in the vaccination program which does take clinical time. We have a daily triage list that we are happy to add patients to if they feel their problem can not wait until a routine appointment is available. If, after a clinician has spoken to you, it is clinically necessary for you to be seen face to face, you will be provided with an appointment the same day. We have recently been advised by the local CCG: "Your activity shows you are at pre-pandemic levels of appointments, and your number of appointments per 1000 patients is 495, above CCG averages" I hope this addresses some of your comments, please remember we are here to help and are doing our best to meet the demand of our service users. Thank you again for your time Kim Simpson Practice Manager
