Review titled Awful service
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Emma Wilson - Posted on 07 June 2025
I applied to renew my life insurance in good time, with my current life insurance expiring on 16/06/25. Due to changes in my health since taking out my last life insurance, the insurance company needed a medical report completing by a GP at the surgery. I gave written consent to the insurance company for this to happen, and for me to view my medical report before it was sent to the insurance company. The surgery received my medical report before on the 28th April (as documented on my NHS app). I rang the surgery on the 15th May to see where we’re up to with completing it, just an enquiry, not to rush it through - to be told that the medical report hadn’t arrived. I informed the receptionist that it had arrived, as confirmed on the NHS app! I was told to ring back next week as the manager was on leave and she was dealing with it. I was concerned by this, therefore I contacted my insurance company, who then rang the surgery on my behalf and spoke to a staff member, who confirmed that the report was there. I popped into the surgery on the 23rd May on passing, and told the receptionist the story to date. She went into the back of the surgery to look for my medical report, she was gone 10 minutes, and when she came back to me she told me ‘I’ve finally found your report and it’s just waiting to be signed by the GP, then we’ll contact you to collect it for you to view then you post it onto the insurance company yourself’. I was pleased with that response and thanked her for her help. Fast forward to yesterday (6th June), 2 weeks to the date of me being in the surgery and being told that my report was just waiting for signature! I went into the surgery yesterday, and again spoke to 2 members of staff, who were both very helpful and understanding of my frustration with the situation. One of the ladies I spoke to, I said ‘oh you were the lady I spoke to 2 weeks ago here, who told me that we were only awaiting a signature’, to which she responded - ‘oh yes that’s right, we lost your medical report’ - and there you have it, exactly what I thought had happened! I was told that the manager was on the phone, as I asked to speak to her, however I was told she would ring me today to let me know what’s happening. No phone call was received, instead I received a text apologising for the delay, and a link attached to pay for the medical report, and on receipt of payment the report will be completed within 4 weeks! I rang the surgery straight away and informed the person answering the phone that it is my insurance company who pays for the report, not myself. I was told that would be sorted out. I said ‘I can’t believe it’s going to take another 4 weeks to complete from payment, as you have had the report since the 28th April (just over 5weeks)’, to which I was told that it’s usually done within 2 weeks. I am absolutely appalled at the whole situation, the loss of my report and the time it’s taking to complete, and in the meantime my current life insurance expires!

Review titled Very poor at making referrals accurately
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Andy Straw - Posted on 29 January 2025
For the second time in 6 months the practice have not made a referral to a specialist in accordance with what I had agreed with my GP during the appointment. They have simply referred into Gloucestershire hospitals triage system which adds considerable delays and has bypassed my access to choose my own appointment. This either seems to be administrative incompetence at the surgery or a deliberate and cynical approach to my rights under the NHS charter, presumably for financial reasons.

The doctor I saw was professional, efficient and quickly diagnosed the issue, after the initial consultation, he organised to do a steroid injection the same week. Thank you.

Review titled Not issuing repeat prescriptions on time.
Rated 2 stars out of 5

Ordered my repeat prescriptions in 04/11/2024. Called local pharmacy on 12/11/2024 who requested as urgent. Today(14/112024) still nothing. Called the surgery as I’m now out of one of my medications and told no one can prescribe today as the GP who signs it is out of the surgery today and no one else can did it. They also said that they didn’t receive my NHS request. This request did go through ( on 4/11/2024) as NHS website confirms this and pharmacy also have proof that they to requested it 2 days ago. This is important medication. I’m at a loss as to what I can do to get my medications on time as this is the second month that this has happened.

Review titled Ridiculous appointment waiting times
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 25 June 2024
I do not understand why I am unable to get an appointment for at least a month. I ended up using a private GP service through work to speak to a GP. I was told I need blood tests, but still cannot get an appointment for this for over a month. It is just crazy that there are no appointments for a month. Really annoying and I shouldn't need to have to contact a private GP service due to not being able to get an appointment at my GP surgery.

Sorry to read that you are unhappy with the current routine wait times for appointments. Unfortunately, patient demand and chronic underfunding means we cannot provide the service we would like to. This is not exclusive to Sixways, practices locally and nationally are experiencing the same problems. If you would like to discuss your concerns further, please contact the practice. Review titled Appalling service

Waited almost a month for an appointment (review of blood test results). Arrived a few minutes late (stuck in traffic for an hour) and the doctor refused to see me. Offered "next available appointment" which is over a month away. Test results mention "uncontrolled diabetes, hypothyroidism, liver disease and nephrotic syndrome" and "premature coronary heart disease". So clearly something that needs attention and yet I feel I am treated like a nuisance and told to come back in a month. My advice: avoid this practice at all costs.

Review titled Awful treatment from reception team
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 16 February 2024
I’m gobsmacked!! After being told by the reception team to ring 111, I did buy was told there was no appointments with out of hours and to ring my gp. So- I rang back. I was told by sixways they didn’t deal with abdominal pain and wouldn’t make an appointment. I said I have no other option I’d like to just speak to my doctor at least. The receptionist said she would not be able to do this and couldn’t help. I’m at a loss as to why GPs exist if they aren’t able to help their patients and instead leave them in pain and without help?!?!

Review titled Kind and caring
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Ian Howgate - Posted on 18 August 2023
My 89 year old mother has just recently joined the surgery and we have today been visited by a doctor who came out to review her care. To use my mother's words "he was absolutely lovely", but he was also extremely professional and very understanding. We could not have asked for more. God bless you all.
