  1. Review titled Excellent couldn’t do more

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Clive Hudson - Posted on 16 April 2024

I’ve lived in selsey for 7 years now and every time myself or my partner have needed and appointment or treatment the service and treatment has been first rate always able to get and appointment. The staff are friendly and efficient and we are so lucky to have this practice in selsey. The people who say staff are rude need to look at themselves first and maybe they are the problem. Reality couldn’t be further from the truth. They need to process a lot of People they are not her to be your councillor. My most visit I rang up at 8 was in by 10:15. Saw a lovely dotor and had blood tests the following day that were back two days later. Keep up the good work

  2. Review titled Rude receptionist

Rated 1 star out of 5

Disappointing experience at Selsey Medical Practice. The receptionist was extremely rude and disrespectful, and the staff exhibited unprofessional behaviour. Patient care should begin with a welcoming atmosphere, which was clearly lacking here.

Dear Patient Thank you for your feedback. I am sorry that you have found a receptionist rude and disrespectful, this is not the behaviour we expect from our teams. We expect our staff to behave professionally at all times. In order to investigate this, I would appreciate it if you could provide us with the details of your experience. I would be grateful for any information you can provide. Nicola Collins Practice Manager sxicb-wsx.selsey-selsey@nhs.net

  3. Review titled Reassuring and Efficient

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I received some test results back today. The receptionist was very kind and reassuring. I then sent an email conveying more worries and this was dealt with in a very quick and reassuring manner. Exceptional customer service!

  4. Review titled Reception staff doing their best

Rated 3 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 18 July 2023

The reception staff here are doing their utmost best to help patients, under really challenging circumstances, and I admire the way they keep their cool, so well done Some of the GPs, though, and not all, need a lesson in why they came into the profession. Total lack of empathy, couldn’t care less attitude, anything to get you out of the door without spending their budget, the list is endless. Basically, don’t give a toss, and I can’t name the good ones. I’m appalled at the attitude yet can’t go elsewhere, so am a captive audience. It’s no fault of the patient that they’re in a stressful job, and treating some as if they don’t matter is not ethical. Most are part time, so the service is under staffed, but that’s no fault of the patient. It’s apparent that it’s now all about tick boxes, irrespective of quality of life. And if you don’t fit in the box, it’s tough. Patients are now suffering long term conditions with little support and encouragement and it seems to be a real effort to get them to do anything that involves referring. Surely you treat the source of the problem, not the symptoms.. Reading the notes before a patient is seen might help, and if you over run, so what. So well done to the reception staff, and to certain GPs, it’s about time your patients got a smile, if nothing else.

  6. Review titled Poor customer service, overstretched practice

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 20 April 2023

I have been with this surgery for a number of years and have found the phone manner of many of the reception staff to be passive aggressive or sometimes just rude. I imagine it is because they do often deal with rude patients but this is not an excuse to behave in the same way. I have seen some GPs who seem very kind and understanding but have also seen others who are less so. I believe they are overstretched being the only GP within Selsey and this makes getting an appointment difficult, especially if you are not able to be flexible due to work/life commitments. The most useful part of the service offering are the e-consults. It is much more likely you will get an appointment this way and will also not need to deal directly with any reception staff so a great option in my opinion. I have been to far better practices and far worse practices than this one.

I am disappointed to hear that you have found some of our team to be passive aggressive or rude. I appreciate that you recognise general practice is overstretched, however as you rightly say, this is not an excuse not to treat our patients kindly and with respect. I am pleased to hear that you are using our online consultation service as this should provide patients with an alternative way to access the practice, but I would not like to think that our patients use this service so that they do not have to speak to a receptionist. Feedback is necessary to help us to improve and it would be helpful if you could contact us directly with more details of your interactions with our team so that we can investigate them and address any areas where we need to improve. 7. Review titled Superb Service

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Teresa Kelly - Posted on 04 May 2023

I only recently moved to Selsey in January 2023 and registered with the practice.Following a short holiday I came back with a painful infection.I called the surgery at 3pm and a very helpful receptionist said she would get a Gp to call me back. This duly took place an hour later and following a discussion antibiotics were prescribed and a prescription was sent over to the chemist which I was able to collect at 5pm.However some further samples were required which I left the next day in the surgery,I was then telephoned by the Gp who said I needed to be referred urgently to St Richards Hospital for further tests.I received a call the next day and an appointment was made for 5 days later,Fortunately nothing untoward was found and no further treatment is necessary,I was so impressed with the speed and efficiency of the Gp and staff at the practice in dealing with my concerns. Each member of staff with whom I spoke was kind and helpful.Full marks to Selsey Practice for a first class service.

Dear Teresa Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback regarding your recent experience. I have forwarded your positive comments on to the teams at the practice. With around 15,000 interactions (phone calls, emails, appointments etc) every single month it can be difficult to get it right every single time so I it's great to hear that you have received a good service from us. We do aspire to provide what our patients need in a timely manner, so it's really good to hear that this happened for you. Nicola Collins Practice Manager

I am sorry if you found our staff rude and unhelpful. We try to signpost patients to the most appropriate service for their condition, this may include advising patients to attend local urgent treatment centres or a pharmacy. Many GP practices are now able to help patients remotely and depending on the issue, sometimes we do signpost patients who are on holiday back to their own GP as they have access to their full medical history and in most cases can provide a remote consultation. Prescriptions in England can be sent electronically to any pharmacy in the country and therefore any medication needed can be sent by a patient’s own GP to a local pharmacy. 9. Review titled Disappointing

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 28 April 2023

On several occasions I have found the Reception staff to be very rude and aggrivated. I suffer with anxiety and struggle making phone calls so to be spoken to in the manner they do is really upsetting. I was advised to use E Consult and when telling them I wasn't able to find a slot suitable for my needs I was told 'you must be doing it wrong' I understand and sympathise the Receptionsts have a tough and stressful job however taking it out on the patients who are kind and calm really isn't fair.

Thank you for your feedback, we use all our feedback as an opportunity to improve our services. I note in your feedback that you say you visited the practice in July 2022. If you have visited the practice recently I would appreciate it if you could contact us directly with more details so that we can investigate the issues you have raised. We expect our teams to treat patients with respect and to be kind, if these standards are not being met then we need to be able to address them and that would be easier for us to do if we had more information.
