Review titled Extremely Poor Service
Rated 1 star out of 5

Called at 8am for an appt on the day. Left some specific information with the receptionist to help ensure I was directed to the right member of staff which ended up being a waste of time. Got a booking link for an appt (in a few weeks time) with the clinician I clearly asked not to get booked an appt with, and was not given an appt on the day. I rang back at 10am to discuss this with the reception staff, who was not kind at all in their response, was dismissive and hung up. I ended up being allowed to send one message to the triage system online. As they have used all their appts on the day, I was told that I needed to book a routine appt. I informed the surgery that I will be moving in a few weeks time, hence why I can not book an appt for that timeframe, and they refused to see me and said I can wait and book an appt with a new gp instead. Terrible!

Dear Anonymous, Thank you for taking the time to submit a review. I’m sorry that you were disappointed with the appointment options offered to you. All of our requests for both GP and ACP appointments are triaged by the on call GP. The GP reviews the information submitted by the patient and makes a decision based upon the clinical need of the patient. It seems from what you have said that the GP did not deem your request to be of an urgent nature and that is why you were sent the option to book a routine appointment for a few weeks hence. Had the clinician felt that you needed to be seen that day but that we weren't in a position to offer you an appointment at the surgery we should have directed you elsewhere, i.e. the urgent care centre or to a local pharmacy; I’m sorry if that did not happen. I am concerned to hear that the member of the team you spoke with on the day was unkind and dismissive; that is not indicative of the level of service we aim to deliver and it is disappointing that this was your last experience of Rise Park Surgery before moving out of the area. Please do not hesitate to contact me should you wish to discuss this further (Jo.hynes@nhs.net). Kind regards, Jo Hynes Patient Services Manager

Review titled Extremely Disappointing
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Toni Ann Smith - Posted on 22 August 2024
My Mother is 83 years of age and has recently been trying to see a doctor at this practice. This appears to be impossible! She has called on numerous occasions over the last 3-4 weeks only to be told that there are no appointments available. I myself have told her to make an appointment as I am growing concerned about her health. Yesterday she set her alarm and went down to the surgery at 7:50am she cued patiently and when asked what she wanted she asked for an appointment to see a doctor. The Receptionist asked what her problem was (which I understand - I work for the NHS myself). She explained her problem and was told that a doctor would call her back the same day. She didn't get a telephone call but instead received a text message saying that her complaint wasn't deemed as urgent and that she could have a routine appointment in 4 weeks time. They did however say that she could call 111 if she got any worse. Now i'm not medically trained but my mother is 83 with legs that are swelling constantly, exhaustion, and some shortness of breath. She has not seen a doctor face to face in this surgery for almost 4 years. I am totally astonished that from a quick question by a receptionist you can deem that hers needs are not urgent. I have myself tried to ring and speak to your practice manager this morning but to no avail - I was number 1 in the queue only to be cut off after 10 minutes of waiting. Rest assured I will be moving my mothers care elsewhere and looking into your complaints procedure.

Dear Ms Smith, Thank you for taking the time to leave a review and I'm sorry to hear that your Mum has experienced a problem trying to secure an appointment. Please could you contact me directly to discuss further either by calling 0115 927 2525 (after 10am) or by emailing me at jo.hynes@nhs.net. Just by way of reassurance the questions asked by the reception team have been designed by the clinicians to make a judgement when triaging the requests for appointments. However as I say I would welcome the opportunity to discuss this with you further. Kind regards, Jo Hynes Patient Services Manager

Review titled too busy to see Ill Patients

My Wife had an Ear Infection in 1998 and was told to leave it a week on Paikillers to see if it clears , it did not , it was a further two weeks before the Dr referred her to the Hospital , by which time she had suffered some Permanent Hearing Loss . The Hospital put her on Antibiotics , but explained that she should have taken them sooner to prevent her hearing loss . My wife now has another Ear Infection and her Hearing is worsened , has taken antibiotics and told to return to GP if no improvement . She was told to wait a further Two weeks for to see her Dr again , possibly for a further appointment to Hospital . I can see it all happening again with further Permanent Loss due to extended waiting times . The Surgery may be trying its best , but is delivering a very Poor Service to its Patients . Lets not Mention being "ina phone queue" for 55 Minutes to speak to a person , or attending the Surgery and standing for an Hour to speak to a Receptionist , who then asks you to discuss your Medical issues in front of Everyone in the Queue . Its so frustrating to see a Beautiful Building Extension , but a greatly Reduced Practice ..

Dear Anonymous, Thank you for your review. I’m sorry to hear that your wife has been suffering from an ear infection and I hope she is now feeling better. As of April 2024 all requests for an appointment with a Doctor or Nurse Prescriber are assessed by a Doctor so it may be that a Doctor has clinically evaluated that your wife needs a ‘check-up’ in 2 weeks and not before then following her course of antibiotics. If you would like a second opinion and for another GP to review your wife’s condition then please submit an online form or call the surgery. As regards waiting times for calls to be answered; sadly call waiting times are longer than we would like them to be and we try to deal with each request or query at the first point of contact to avoid the ‘please call back tomorrow morning’ scenario. On the day you left your review the average wait time for a call to be answered was 13 minutes and 41 seconds and we answered 238 calls that day. I appreciate that first thing in the morning the wait time will have been longer than nearly 14 minutes but please be assured that the team are doing all they can to answer the calls as quickly as they can. With reference to confidentiality in the queue issue we always ask that patients queue in an orderly manner and behind the ‘crowd barrier’ to afford the patient at the desk some privacy. We also have a radio playing in an attempt to drown out the conversation at the desk. However, to avoid this issue wherever possible we would always recommend that patients telephone us, submit their request online or ask if there is anywhere else they can talk if the query is of a sensitive nature. Once again thank you for taking the time to leave a review and please feel free to contact me directly at jo.hynes@nhs.net if you wish to discuss this matter further. Kind regards, Jo Hynes Patient Services Manager

I would like to say a very big thank you to one of the secretaries. Unfortunately I am unable to give a name but within half an hour of leaving a message about a missed hospital procedure the hospital were in touch to rearrange appointment following a phone call from the secretary. I am so very grateful and commend you on excellent service.

Review titled Great practice
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Linda - Posted on 24 May 2024
I left my old practice due to a total lack of respect and regard for the patient. Since registering with Rise Park I have been seen by a doctor and had hospital tests within 3 weeks. The receptionists have been so very helpful and professional to myself and husband. The doctor was amazing and listened!! I am so grateful I made the move.

Review titled Appalling service

Mum left hospital last week and took her new prescription to surgery. I was reassured that her new prescription would be ready and sent to the chemist in plenty of time before her hospital supply ran out. However a week later the chemist has not received it. I rang the surgery to be told that the prescription had not been sent and that they couldn’t do anything about it for 48hours. I reiterated the fact that my mum would then not have any medication and was told there was nothing they could do. They have now left a vulnerable old lady worried. The attitude of the lady I spoke to was awful, she really did not seem bothered or concerned. This is not good enough and concerns me.

Dear Anonymous, Thank you for taking the time to submit your review. I am sorry to hear of the disappointing service you received and I hope the situation was eventually resolved in good time for your Mum to receive her medication. By way of reassurance, our reception team receive initial and ongoing training and I am sorry that the attitude of the receptionist you spoke with that day was not of the standard we strive to provide. Without knowing the full details around the situation regarding your Mum’s medication I know sometimes medications can change or need to be double checked when a patient has recently been discharged from hospital however any delay and the reasons around that delay should have been explained to you. Once again please accept my apologies for the delay, stress and inconvenience caused to you and your Mum. If you would like to discuss this further please don’t hesitate to contact me by emailing me (jo.hynes@nhs.net). Kind regards, Jo Hynes Patient Services Manager

Dear Patient, I’m sorry to hear that you have experienced problems gaining an appointment at the surgery. Since April 2024 we have a new system in place whereby all requests for GP and Nurse appointments are assessed by the on-call GP that day and either booked an appointment at the surgery or sign posted to the most appropriate service able to help the patient. As I’m sure you can imagine we have a finite number of appointments each day. The wait for routine appointments is longer than we would like it to be and that is currently being reviewed. The practice area currently includes Rise Park and extends into Top Valley, Bestwood Park, Bestwood Village, Papplewick and Linby. The British Medical Association has guidance around the number of patients registered ‘v’ appointments offered and we do meet this criteria. Additionally, we must also adhere to safe working levels for the safety of both patients and staff. We are currently in the process of recruiting additional GP’s and receptionists to work at the surgery and we hope that these new appointments will result in an improved experience for all patients. If you’d like to discuss any of this further or any other aspect of our service please don’t hesitate to contact me by emailing me at jo.hynes@nhs.net. Kind regards, Jo Hynes Patient Services Manager

Review titled Impossible to get a medical review by any means
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Lorraine Alexander - Posted on 14 July 2023
Unable to get through by phone, ever. Went in person to the surgery, it was empty but I was told they were at capacity and no appointments of any sort available. I was told to attend urgent care or they'd send an online form. Opted for the form, when it arrived I could not complete the request as the form was also closed to new referrals until Monday! What a waste of time, no wonder A&E etc.. are so busy and massively over capacity. So off to urgent care now.

Thank you for your feedback and allowing us the opportunity to respond. We are sorry your experience has not been great. All practices are struggling to meet the demand on its resources but at Rise Park we acknowledge that we need to continuously improve. We have been working on our systems to improve the patient experience and are continuously looking to improve. Changes we have made over the last few months have seen a 38% improvement on the phones and we hope future changes will continue to improve this. When we are at capacity, we will always provide the patient with the safest option to received care. We have a PPG where patients are encouraged to be active in practice development and you would be welcome to join the group. Thanks again, David Marks Business Development Manager

Review titled Efficient service

Despite the negative press regarding GP services I was pleasantly surprised with the service I have received recently. I used the triage facility for the first time and found it to be very straight forward to complete and submit. I got a prompt response and satisfactory follow up action. The staff at the surgery were all very polite and efficient and I am happy with the support I received.
