  1. Review titled Poor communication, poor practice

Rated 2 stars out of 5

After being sent away to get BP taken at pharmacy last week. I submitted the results of 12hrs of being fitted to a BP monitor showing hypertension. I cannot remember the last time I was called in to hsve this checked due to meds I am on but never had an issie woth BP before. Was told by GP Receptionist that GP would call me the following day as I would likely need meds to reduce my BP. No call. 36hrs later received a text to book an appointment with a nurse? Booked one as requested. Nurse did not know why I was instructed to book with her. She told me it was a GP that I needed. (which I knew.) She added me to the list for a GP to call me the next day. I asked the receptionist why I received a text in the first place to book to see the nurse. She said I requested an appointment with the nurse. (I didn't) I showed her the text from the surgery. She looked at the following day's surgeries and said I would receive a call from the GP then next day and to make sure I had my phone close by all day. At 2pm the next day, I called to find out roughly what time a GP would be phoning. I was told not today but three days later! My stress and anxiety levels are through the roof and I suspect that my BP is too. There have been too many occasions where errors have been made at this surgery; Lack of priority of patient care; High GP turnover; Lack of face-face appointments or having to jump through hoops to get an appointment or your prescription; Misdiagnosis happened too, a few years ago by 9ne of the partner GPs. I had to tell the GP in question that had it not been for someone calling an ambulance, and getting x2 adrenalin shots, I may not have been here. I completely understand human error but too msny incidences and lack of care at Ripon Spa Surgery.

  2. Review titled Over and above!

Rated 5 stars out of 5

There are so many of us, all those seniors, baby boomers, clogging up the system, according to some, but I have never been made to feel that way at Spa surgery. They listen, question and listen some more, organise tests and follow them up. I am delighted to have a date for a hip replacement very soon, which is down to the tenacity, and persuasive skill of my doctor. Above and beyond! And my experience won’t be unique. I’m really looking forward to life after the op, enjoying walking, exploring, travelling, the company of my grandchildren. It’s all too easy to assume that us oldies must expect to be housebound! Not so at Spa surgery in my experience. Thank you all, very much..

  3. Review titled why is a receptionist dispensing medical advice?

Rated 3 stars out of 5

I wanted to speak to a doctor this morning for some advice about side effects from antibiotics. The instructions in the package say that, if you suffer side effects, you should stop taking the medication. The receptionist told me I should continue taking the medication and that stomach upsets are "normal"! She wouldn't put my name on the list for a call back and I'm wondering why anybody who is medically unqualified can be authorised to give out this sort of information. Sometimes it seems that a receptionist takes on the role of gatekeeper to prevent contact with the doctor and this really isn't acceptable.

  4. Review titled Sadly let down

Rated 1 star out of 5

I have been overweight most of my life due to a medical condition. I was told however I was not fat enough for gastric surgery, so paid to go private in Riga. Came back to the UK and had problems with constipation not been for around 3 weeks was sent to A and E and although I had taken everything know to man nothing worked. The GP surgery contacted York hospital for advice and I rang constantly to the GP surgery for an update and heard nothing. I have spent a few months having to remove feacal matter from my own bottom. They never came back to me and declined to do blood tests as I had surgery abroad, but other GP surgery's do. I requested a repeat online and then applied to another surgery. Went to pick the prescription up and it had not been done. No one had let me know that from Friday until Thursday they had not put it through and I am without medication. I have been with the surgery years, but feel there is no longer any compassion or it is not led as before as a caring patient led surgery.

  5. Review titled Confused re collection of repeat prescription organisation

Rated 4 stars out of 5

Hi I ordered my repeat prescription a week prior. It is an every 2 monthly one. I live in a village so collect from surgery( my choice) today called as usual to collect one other patient in front wanting repeat sick note. I explained why I was there after he left and was told " we are very busy that's why we are closed! Explained issue for me eg buses ltd and was asked " when is your bus due"!! Eventually with (in my opinion bad grace ) was given my repeat prescription ( all ready made up and ready to collect) there were no other people in the waiting room don't understand this attitude.

  6. Review titled Ridicule staff

Rated 1 star out of 5

I am disgusted today how the Doctors treat the junior staff. Today I was sat in the room and the Doctor laughed at the junior Doctors when they didn’t know how to answer. I felt truly awful for them. How rude and unprofessional, they have to learn. Changed my view on the practice

  7. Review titled Empathetic, helpful practice

Rated 5 stars out of 5

New to the area and Ripon Spa Surgery made the transition from our previous GP very easy and got us the care we needed for our son within 24hrs. The members of staff I encountered were clear, helpful & empathetic - which goes a long way when you’re a tired, rundown mum of two with poorly babies. Thank you for your help.

  8. Review titled Excellent Practice

Rated 5 stars out of 5

My husband& I are both registered at The Spa Surgery... I cannot thank the GP we are registered with enough, he is both caring & professional & is always there to help... I think receptionists get a lot of negative reviews, but the ladies here I find very kind & helpful. The nurses here are also excellent.. Would highly recommend this practice.
