I would just like to thank the doctor I was seen by today.I feel that she was extremely professional and thorough and felt like my problem mattered. I think as a practice I would hope you get more positive reviews as you certainly deserve it. Many many thanks it’s very appreciated.

  5. Review titled Can't get an appointment

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Alex - Posted on 15 May 2023

I can't call at 8am as I am at work so was told to use the online booking system. It is switched off every time I try! Absolutely useless. What am I supposed to do? Why release all appointments at 8 am? Is it under some stupid pretence that 100% of patients get an appointment on the day or something? This is what 13 years of austerity has done.

  6. Review titled Lucky to be registered here

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Heather - Posted on 07 March 2023

This medical centre is such a caring practice. Nothing is too much trouble, the receptionists are so polite and helpful, the nurses kind and caring and after seeing several GP’s I cannot fault them. Yes it can be tricky to get an appointment, but even at 45 in the queue I was offered a same day slot. I feel lucky to be registered here.

  7. Review titled Unable to get appointment

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 18 August 2022

I've found that I'm unable to get an appointment with this practice unless I go via 111 who manage to book appointments on my behalf. The reception staff can have a rude and sometimes sarcastic tone. I have started double checking guidance given with the hospital or 111 as the practice seems to do everything to avoid seeing you. For example, after a cesarian you are told that you will have a check up at 6 weeks (you aren't insured to drive before that point) but Portishead medical group combine the 6 week check and 8 week newborn vaccinations at 8 weeks, meaning no sign off to drive. This has a major impact to new mothers who have to take their child to appointments, etc. After questioning this with a medical professional I called back to request an appointment and was told that I would need to ring at 8 in the morning to get an appointment because they don't have any spaces to pre-book for two weeks. I explained that this was having a significant impact to me and the response was 'ok'. This practice seems so understaffed thst they can't offer the basics.

I am sorry to hear that you have had difficulty getting an appointment. We are facing unprecedented demand for appointments (as are all practices across the country) but we are offering more appointments than ever before and offering different ways to book these. We have combined the 6 week check and 8 week vaccination checks because it allows us to offer more appointments to new mums and also makes it more convenient for new mums to do both in one visit. You may be interested in the information on the NHS website about caesarians - this says that you can return to driving when it is comfortable and you feel able to do so. Here is a link to the relevant page: https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/caesareansection/recovery/ To aid you in booking appointments, it is also possible to book appointments online (via the NHS App or the Patient Access system on our website - log in at 8 am to see appointments released on the day) or you could complete an eConsult on our website and a GP will call you within 2 weeks (these are suitable for queries and non-urgent matters). If you would like to discuss this further please contact me via email at bnssg.pmg.contact@nhs.net and I will be very happy to call you. Kind regards Kath Payne Management Partner

  8. Review titled Difficult to recommend

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 27 June 2022

This practice is very difficult to recommend - they consistently make it hard to book an appointment by restricting times you are able to book, discouraging booking online and having you call up at 8am to either not get through or wait for ages. The doctors are not great, a few are, but I see a different one every time and frequently they are not interested in help and I was told “there’s nothing we can help you with” after describing my issue in one sentence and not even being examined.

I'm sorry to hear of your experience. We release appointments every day at 8 a.m. and these are available on the phone and online- in fact we encourage online booking wherever possible. Nurse team appointments do need to be booked on the phone as we need to match the procedure to the nurse with the appropriate skills, but we do tend to have a range of appointments to offer. We are offering more appointments that we used to before the covid pandemic, but are also experiencing a huge increase in demand which means that appointments tend to be grabbed as soon as they are released. You may like to consider registering with the NHS App or Patient access to enable you to book GP appointments online (appointments will be released at 8 a.m. every day) or send an eConsult request via our website www.pmg.org.uk. Thank you Kath Payne, Management Partner

  9. Review titled Failing practice

Rated 1 star out of 5

After being discharged from hospital back into GP care, it is scary that I have not been able to get a GP appointment since (4 weeks of trying). If you are finally able to get through you are told, sometimes rudely, there are no appointments left.

We do appreciate how hard it is to get an appointment at the moment - this is due to a huge increase in demand for primary care services and is affecting GP surgeries across the whole country. In fact we are offering more appointments that we used to before the covid pandemic, but this huge demand means that they are snapped up as soon as they are released. Rather than call on the phone please consider registering with the NHS App or Patient access to enable you to book appointments online (appointments will be released at 8 a.m. every day) or send an eConsult request via our website www.pmg.org.uk. 10. Review titled Telephone system

Rated 3 stars out of 5

by Pauline - Posted on 30 May 2022

Two 40mins phone calls this morning waiting, moving down the queuing system to get through waiting for a receptionist to pick up to then be cut off! Diabolical. This can't be right. I am a patient person but this is not sitting well with me. 90 mins for nothing. How am I supposed to get an appointment?

Dear Pauline I apologise for your experience. In response to feedback regarding patients calling and hearing the engaged tone we have recently changed our phone system to one that allows calls to queue on 'the cloud'. It is still early days for this system and we are working through a few issues - we hope these will be resolved soon. Please be assured that we have appointments to book every day and a dedicated urgent team to see patients whose problem is too urgent to wait until another day. You may also like to try booking appointments online - you can register for this on the NHS App or our reception team can provide log in details for you. Kath Payne
