  1. Review titled Very poor.

Seriously ill family have been unable to obtain an appointment to see a doctor or to receive a home visit. Arrogant receptionists you can't get past. I thought doctors were supposed to see sick people but this surgery has set up a wall to prevent standard patient care. Disgraceful.

We are very sorry that a family has been seriously ill and tells us that they received a disgraceful service from us. If the person leaving this feedback would like to get in touch with us, we will be pleased to fully investigate their concerns.

  2. Review titled Very well organised

Rated 4 stars out of 5

The organisation of the flu and covid jabs was very efficient and smoothly run. Well done to everyone concerned. I was in and out in 15 mins. I needed a blood test as well. So blood test, flu jab and covid. All done. I spent more time walking along the corridor between the two rooms. Thank you everyone. Roz Dennison

  3. Review titled Outstanding care

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I wanted to talk to a doctor about a deterioration in my 91 year old mum's general condition and was added to the duty doctors list for a phone consultation. However, with in a few hours the doctor had made a home visit, taken booked and given advice about diet and fluids. Couldn't wish for better care!

  4. Review titled Exemplory Experience

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Diane Jeanne Charlton - Posted on 29 August 2023

Two weeks before due to come on a long booked holiday to Pickering and too late to cancel, husband had to have emergency surgery resulting in open wound that needs daily packing and dressing by someone experienced and qualified to do so. With great trepidation after playing Nhs "Ping Pong" in Derbyshire with me being the "Ping Pong" ball on several occasions in a very short time frame, I telephoned Pickering Medical Centre not holding out much hope he would be able to register as a temporary patient for a qualified nurse to pack and dress the wound. Wow I got the most pleasant and helpful receptionist answering my call and query, she took all the details and later the same day had an equally pleasant and helpful call back with arrangements, dates and times for temporary wound care whilst on holiday. I am so so very grateful and relieved that my husband has a definite, professional care package in place and cannot thank the people involved deeply enough. What a fantastic service thus far - thank you so very much!

  5. Review titled Complete Disinterest

Rated 1 star out of 5

I saw one of the newer GP’s following abnormal blood results GP in question appeared surprised that I wanted to discuss the abnormal blood results, they were extremely dismissive stating raised levels were an allergy response due to the time of year and shutdown any opportunity to discuss further. As a qualified nurse I was fully aware that the rise in this particular blood level is caused by 3 things 1. Allergy 2. Cancer 3. Parasitic Infection however no consideration given to anything other than ‘allergies due to the time of year’ Really poor patient experience

We are very sorry that you had a really poor patient experience when you were seen at the Surgery. This is not what we want for our patients. We are also very sorry that you did not raise your concerns in person at the time or later under the NHS complaints procedure. Taking either of these steps would have allowed us to investigate your poor experience, perhaps resolve your concerns to your satisfaction and improve our service. Sadly, as you remain anonymous this opportunity is lost. Please do get in touch with us directly.

  6. Review titled Dreadful practice

Rated 2 stars out of 5

Could not get an appointment for at least 2 weeks even though suffering a lot of pain in my right hand resulting in spilling hot liquid. Requested a referral to see a consultant privately and was refused until after a two week wait and telephone consultation. I booked myself directly. Requested results from previous tests and on one occasion they could not be found. Latterly, although there was an item requiring some attention, I was not contacted. Told to continue taking supplements although now find they would not be sufficient. After my last conversation, I felt totally depressed as I was given the impression that as I am an elderly person, I should not expect to be any better. I should explain that, although I am old, I lead a very active life and don’t actually feel that I am ready to give up trying to maintain good health. I have never experienced this with my previous practises where I have lived previously. This practise has a very bad reputation

We are very sorry to receive these adverse comments about our service. If the patient concerned would like to contact us with their name, we would be pleased to provide a personal response. However, what we can say is that if a patient needs urgent care Pickering Medical Practice will make every effort to see them and refer them onto the appropriate service. NHS 111 will give advice on this and also for more urgent care. The Practice, along with the whole NHS, is experiencing unprecedented demand and we are seeing more patients now than we were before the COVID pandemic. Whilst we would like to be able to see patients sooner, unfortunately, there can be a two-week wait for a non-urgent appointment. In terms of private referrals, if a patient wishes to see a clinician privately, we would endeavour to support them with their referral but we must prioritise work for NHS patients first. We are unable to comment on the specific care of this patient, but we are sorry that they felt totally depressed and can reassure everyone that we do not discriminate against elderly patients who form the majority of our patient list. We would be pleased to hear from them (or anyone else) directly to discuss any concerns.

Practice web site unavailable and is no longer linked with the NHS Patient Access app that I could use to order repeat prescriptions. What's going on?
