I attempted to use e-consult at the Oak Tree Health Centre in tyne Avenue Didcot on the 13th November to ask what to do about the skin tag just below my left eye. However, I discovered that there is no E-consult service at the Oak Tree Health Centre during the month of November..and getting in touch with the surgery any other way is at best avarage at worst next to impossible and the service is getting worse. pretty soon finding a good med centre in Didcot will be impossible and moving to another health centre in our area is also imposible due to lack of places for a a town already bulging at the seams with people and lack of services to cover the expanding residents in Didcot.

Dear Mr Cooper, Thank you for your feedback. I would like to apologise for you having to contact us in such a way with this matter. We do make every effort to provide the very best service to all our patients, whose wellbeing is our primary concern. Unfortunately due to staff shortages, we are limited on capacity for GP appointments and administration tasks and we are unable to provide access via e-consult at the moment. The increased local population has put huge pressure on our admin and clinical staff. We are conscious that we cannot always ensure that patients who called us requesting a GP appointment can talk to a GP on the day that they called. If you problem is urgent you can give us a call, a Patient Advisor will ask you a few questions; the nature of the problem an indication of urgency, and the telephone number on which a clinician can call you back. A clinician will discuss the problem with you and decide what is needed next. We understand the current lack of capacity is extremely frustrating for patients, our staff are very unhappy about the situation too. We continue to recruit new clinical staff – nurses, paramedics, clinical pharmacists but with more GPs leaving the NHS, the situation is not expected to improve for some time. After many attempts trying to get an appt with a female doctor for weeks regarding desperate menopausal symptoms and not being able to have a telephone appt due to work commitments, I was turned away at reception in floods of tears being told no I can’t speak to someone face to face

My doctor always shows she cares about her patients she always seems to be very happy and very polite too you never have to wait long for your appointment and the receptionist are always kind

Called the Monday morning and sorted with antibiotic medicine by 4pm! I have always had a good experience. I suffer from COPD and they handle my condition with expertise and empathy.

I have been with this practice since 2004 and have always found the GPs kind, caring and willing to listen. Receptionist have been variable over the years, but currently are very helpful. The big issue is access - at times it can be very difficult make an appointment to see a GP. The call back system (if you can get on the list in the first place) doesn’t really work for those of us that work full time and can’t guarantee we will be available when the GP call comes through. On-line access is extremely limited and prone to closing without notice. I fully understand the issues around the increasing local population and GP shortages, but it is such a shame that this is impacting on what used to be the best practice I have ever been registered at. I notice only one GP appears to be full-time- perhaps reviewing the ratio of full-time to part-time staff might be something that would help improve the situation. I do think the use of nurse practitioners, paramedics, associate nurses/medics etc is a really helpful initiative in supporting access. I really hope things start to improve over the coming months, so that more patients can use an otherwise excellent practice.

My son has been experiencing some severe mental health problems recently. I cannot fault the service he has received from this surgery. He had a same day appointment, was referred straight away to the crisis team and received prompt follow up from the GP. I cannot commend them enough for the care he has received, especially when I know how over stretched they are.

I called the practice Tuesday afternoon seeking clarification on what to do when I couldn’t fulfil my full prescription. The receptionist was so very helpful and explained it was best to speak to the Dr and put me on the call list for the next day. I received a call by 11am the next day, the Dr was fantastic and went above and beyond to help find a resolution to my problem.
