  1. Review titled Terrible experience

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Brandon Levy - Posted on 07 April 2024

My experience with this practice has been rubbish. Tried to get a sick note last week, was back and forth doing links and on the phone 3 times with them. In the end I heard nothing back. Asked for them to chase some a scan and bloodwork for some abdominal issues and extreme pain (which I’ve had for like 2 years), no reply. Had to chase my H Pylori test. This surgery is nothing but chasing and chasing 24/7 otherwise they won’t get back to you for months. Don’t bother with the EConsult either, sometimes they’ll turn you away saying to call or use their website instead even though the form is for “Contacting your GP about a health problem”. I’ve been left with testicle pain a year later which affects me in my day to day life. Waited about 7 months for a referral to go through only to find out the urologist had no idea why I was there, a complete lack of communication. I feel completely neglected by this practice. As an otherwise healthy young adult why should I be stuck living in pain for over a year?

Dear Brandon, Thank you for sharing your experience. Here at North Street, we take all complaints seriously and are committed to investigating all concerns brought to our attention. Please note, because of the Easter holiday there was a slight delay, as the surgery was closed. We are sorry if you had to wait for a reply. The surgery has been in touch with you in the meantime to look at your issues. In regard to your scan, there was a delay in the diagnosis letter from the urology clinic you which you attended on the 5th February 2024. The letter only reached us on the 27/3/24. I understand that the necessary actions have now been taken. We recommend downloading the NHS App. You can see all your consultations, results, referrals and documents. https://www.nhs.uk/nhs-app/nhs-app-help-and-support/getting-started-with-the-nhs-app/ Your NSMC team

Contacted the surgery over several days due to my mother being unwell and requiring follow up medication and appointments after a recent visit to Accident and Emergency. Cannot fault the staff or doctors who have helped and I would recommend the surgery to anyone. Thank you.

  4. Review titled I thought this was a good practice, however I was so wrong.

Rated 3 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 24 October 2023

I contacted the surgery because I am concerned I may have lung cancer (as advised by the tv campaign). There were no appointments until the end of November. I explained my concerns to the receptionist. I was given an appointment. Thank you North Street. However I have just learnt my appointment is with a paramedic. No doctor and therefore delay. Honestly, I despair.

Dear anonymous, Thank you for your feedback regarding your appointment. We have many professional clinicians here at the surgery. Our Clinical paramedics are Advanced Paramedic Practitioners. They have also been trained in prescribing. An Advanced paramedic practitioner provides advanced clinical assessments, diagnosis, treatment and referral of patients. They can diagnose a wide rage of conditions and treat many minor injuries and illnesses. They have an allocated GP during their clinics whom they can refer to if needed. We are confident that the appointment was booked appropriately. If you have any queries / concerns regarding your treatment, please contract the surgery directly, so we can look into the matter. Here at North Street we take all complaints / comments seriously and are committed to investigate all concerns brought to our attention. Your NSMC team

  5. Review titled no appointments

Rated 2 stars out of 5

was contacted by the surgery to get an appointment with one of the doctors at the surgery to discuss scan (in fact there are 2 scans to discuss) both relating to different issues. phoned the surgery 9 waiting - to be told there are no appointments that she could give me as there are none available and they are waiting for the practice manager to release the appointments and they will contact me when these are available. are appointments being rationed now to string things out like the blood test procedures and referrals. everything is taking longer with weeks in between appointments, blood tests, results, and obtaining the results with the gp and actual treatment. where will it all end

Thank you for sharing your experience. I looked into the matter found that on the 2/10/23 the doctor asked you to book a routine appointment. On the 5th October you were given a routine appointment for next week, which is 7 days after the date you have called the surgery. This is an acceptable length of time to wait for a routine appointment. Thank you for your understanding. Your North Street Surgery team

  6. Review titled Poor practice

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 11 August 2023

My consultant has requested the GP refer me to a surgeon. They referred me to the wrong hospital and refuse to do another referal I have spoken to the reception about this they are unhelpful no alternative but to go private what I can't afford. Do not understand why the practice can't do what the consultant asked. The hospital who had the referal rang and told me the GP made the error it is like they are deliberately delaying treatment.

Dear anonymous patient, Thank you for sharing your experience here on the NHS review site. If you haven’t done so, please contact the surgery referral secretaries (option 4, between 10 am and 2pm) as soon as possible so we can look into your referral. Please be assured that the surgery has no interest to deliberately delay any patients treatment. We are here to help. We would also not suggest to go private to any patient, unless the patient specifically asked for a private referral. We are looking forward to hearing from you. Your NSMC team

  9. Review titled Terrible Service

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 23 May 2023

Trying to get an appointment at this surgery is like getting blood out of a stone. I done everything they tell you to do - “call at 8am, use EConsult, use NHS App”. 8am call - wouldn’t even allow to to remain on Hold - cut me off saying there was too many people in the queue EConsult/NHS App - the first time I booked an appointment via this method, I promptly got a call back to tell me they were cancelling the appointment as my issue was not an emergency and I should call back the following day to book an appointment. Obviously the issue was not life or death otherwise I would have attended UrgentCare or called 999. The second time I attempted to book an appointment online - the only appointment I could get was a telephone consultation for 4 weeks away. I have recently had a text from the surgery to ask me to book an appointment with the GP to discuss recent blood test - so I called and was given a telephone appointment for 4 weeks time. Absolutely terrible - so it will have taken over 8 weeks in total from start to finish - and I still wouldn’t have physically seen a human being. How this surgery runs a service is beyond me - they talk about patients cancelling their appointments - which have wasted GP and Nurses time - however this is probably due to the patient resolving their issues by going private, being admitted to hospital or attending UrgentCare (ultimately wasting hospital time). It takes so long to get through to the receptionist (on a good day you’re looking at 20 minutes), that the patient who wants to cancel haven’t been able to get through. Don’t even get me started about the opening hours. They don’t support patients who work. If you work long hours, or 9-5 and don’t work in the area (for travel times), then forget about making an appointment. Do yourself a favour and register elsewhere. Most of the reviews on here are the same - terrible. So please - register elsewhere - this surgery doesn’t care. They register more patients than they can provide a service for - purely for financial reasons it seems.

We apologise to hear that you had trouble trying to book an appointment. On the day appointments are released at 8 am each morning and can be booked through the NHS App or via the telephone. Online appointments are released online each morning at 8 am for the day and are a convenient way of booking an appointment. There is a high demand for urgent on the day appointments, that is why we are asking patients to call back after 10.30 am for non-urgent appointments. You can download the NHS App through the app store or google play or go to our website on https://www.northstreetmedicalcare.co.uk/ For routine appointments please call between 10.30 am and 3 pm, that is the least busy time. We are offering enhanced access for GP and Nurse appointments at Raphael’s House, Pettit’s Lane, Romford weekday’s evenings from 6.30 pm and also on Saturdays. (Currently, you can book the enhanced access appointments through our receptionists at North Street Medical Care, but there is an online booking system currently in development.) You can also call the Havering’s GP access HUBs. Patients can book appointments via NHS111 or directly via 02037701888 from 12:00hrs – 21:00hrs Monday to Friday, 09:00hrs – 17:00hrs Saturday and from 09:00hrs – 16:00hrs Sundays. In addition you can also contact us online through the website for non-urgent matters. https://florey.accurx.com/p/F82009 If you are seriously unwell, please call 999. We are regularly monitor that we are offering enough appointments to our patients, which is overseen by the Primary Care Team and the CQC. Please check out the latest CQC report which can be viewed on our website. You mentioned in your comment that we publish a report of how many patients cancel their appointments. This is not the report we are publishing, as we urge patients to cancel their appointments if they no longer need it. Another patient will thank them for it. You can cancel an appointment conveniently through the NHS App. For your information in April we had 196 patients not attending their booked appointment and did not cancel it. In regards to your personal experience, please contact the practice so we can look into your complaint. The North Street Medical Care Team

Thank you for your time writing a review about your experience at our surgery. Because of data protection we are not able to discuss or disclose any patient details to a 3rd party, therefore we can’t give you any information about your nephew. Please ask your nephew to contact us himself. In regards to the NHS number, this comes directly from the Health Authority via letter to your nephew’s home address. Once this has been issued it is visible on the GP patient record. The practice has no influence on how long it takes for the NHS number to be issued. We are recording all our calls for training purposes. If you feel that the receptionist was rude to you, please accept our apology. Please contact us so we can listen to the call and offer training to our staff. North Street Medical Care
