  1. Review titled Very rude receptionist

Before I’d even spoken the lady was huffing down the phone, i told her all the information she asked and with everything she replied was in an extremely narky passage aggressive manner and finally she told me to bring my daughter in for an appointment when I could to which I replied her and my partner are at nursery and won’t get there until 18:20 to which her reply was we shut at six there’s nothing we can do then…. Not suggest calling in the morning to get a suitable appointment like I suggested may be I could do. In short an extremely rude woman!

  2. Review titled no appointments

Rated 1 star out of 5

I received a letter to book my smear test, so rang for a appointment only to be told quite abruptly they are fully booked and I need to ring back in 4 weeks when the new appointments are released! Ok so I understand they are busy, seems there isn’t enough Drs as there reputation is bad around here but I waited and rang back 4 weeks and 1 day later to be told no appointments again and to ring back in 4 weeks! This isn’t good enough, smear tests are extremely important, I’m now 2 months late with it and still can’t get a appointment! Shocking doesn’t seem to cover it. I’m not going to bother again now and the whole idea of sending a letter out so you don’t forget seems pointless!

Thank-you for your feedback. The practice has had difficulties recruiting practice nurses over recent months. We have been fortunate enough to procure the services of locum nurses, but they are not always qualified to do smears. This has created uncertainty when designing the practice nurse rota. I am pleased to say that the practice has now recruited 2 full time nurses, who will be joining the practice shortly, enabling us to return to offering a wide range of appointment types going forward. If you need to discuss further, then please contact the practice manager.

  3. Review titled Great service - lovely people

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Jon Ellis - Posted on 17 January 2023

I just want to acknowledge the fabulous experience I have had since becoming a patient at Middleton Lodge Medical Practice. Contacting the practice is easy. The repeat prescriptions team are fantastic. The vaccinations and blood test processes should be highlighted as an exemplar to others and the clinical and non-clinical staff are kind and friendly. Well done!

  4. Review titled Unhelpful staff

Rated 2 stars out of 5

I have vitamin B12 injections every 3 months, common sense tells me that when I have my injection I should be able to book the next one there and then. Sadly, common sense does not exist here. They won’t allow you to book that far in advance. You can only book 4 weeks in advance and even then it is a struggle to get an appointment. Partially my fault for working away Monday to Friday so I am only available first thing on a Monday or last thing on a Friday. When this is explained to people on the phone they neither care nor try to assist. Apparently they have separate appointments for blood taking and injections, but it’s the same person doing both. Is it really such an inconvenience to the practice to allow someone requiring regular appointments to book in advance?

Dear patient, Thank you for your comments, I am sorry to hear of the difficulties you experienced when trying to book a future appointment for your B12 injection. Due to a combination of reasons, we have experienced a shortage of nursing team appointments during the past couple of months. We are trying to improve that situation by increasing the number of locum nurse staff we employ. I am sorry that the telephone staff were not more helpful when you tried to book an appointment. I will discuss your feedback with them. Managing the appointment system can be very challenging with extremely high demand for all appointments. I acknowledge your comments and will discuss your request to be able to book further in advance with the practice team. Should you wish to discuss this further please do not hesitate to contact me at the surgery. Jonathan Cummins Practice Manager

I have been ringing for months to try get a appointment with a doctor but all I keep getting is we have no appointments available so please ring back in the morning at 8am but then when I ring back in the morning it's the same thing & has been for months. The staff who answer the phone are very ill mannered & never seen able to help or willing to help it's so shocking how a fantastic surgery has turned out so rubbish

Dear Cat, Thank you for your comments, I am sorry you were dissatisfied with the service you received when trying to book an appointment with a doctor. We continue to experience extremely high demand for appointments on the telephone every day. We are trying to improve that situation by increasing the number of GPs we employ. We have also enabled online booking of GP appointments. You can access this facility by downloading the NHS app. I am sorry to hear that our staff were very ill mannered and unhelpful. I will discuss your feedback with the telephone team. We are always grateful for patient feedback and appreciate the time you have taken to provide this. Should you wish to discuss this further please do not hesitate to contact me at the surgery. Jonathan Cummins Practice Manager

  6. Review titled Fantastic service

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Angela Williams - Posted on 13 May 2022

I have an ongoing condition and am under the hospital so therefore do not need GPS appointments very often. However my condition worsened considerably and I required an urgent gp appointment. I rang the surgery at 9am and was answered by a very helpful receptionist who gave me an appointment for 10.15. The gp was extremely thorough and gave the time to explore my problems. She arranged blood tests and the next day rang me to discuss results and plan the next steps. What can I say? A fantastic service with a go I can trust. Well done middleton lodge staff

  7. Review titled Poor Service

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Unhappy Patient - Posted on 01 June 2022

I had a letter from the surgery to book a blood test appointment. When I called the earliest date I could get for an early appointment (9.00a.m)is 19th August. How is that acceptable, I work full time Monday to Friday and have to take time off as it is, but to have to wait over 10 weeks for a blood test is quite frankly bordering on the ridiculous. Why is there no availability for an early appointment when most people you speak to say they cannot get to see a doctor at this surgery it’s all telephone appointments. There is no other doctor’s surgery in the area as I have checked other practices and we live to far away. Absolutely shocking service, especially when you are told you need regular blood tests but have to wait nearly 3 months for an appointment,I hope I don’t have anything serious from the said blood tests once I get the results.

Dear patient Thank you for your feedback regarding the delay in booking a blood test appointment. I apologise for the waiting times being experienced. We are currently experiencing an increasing demand for blood test appointments and we have struggled to recruit staff to meet that increased demand. We have managed to secure locum phlebotomists for October and November 2022 and will be making every effort to reduce the waiting time for blood test appointments. I confirm that all the doctors working at the surgery offer face to face appointments. I apologise for the waiting time you experienced. Should you wish to discuss this further please do not hesitate to contact me at the surgery. Jonathan Cummins Practice Manager
