I recently contacted my GP practice for help when my 15 year old son became ill. He was unable to eat due to the problem he had. We were initially triaged by an unqualified receptionist who would not even allow us to complete a form to be triaged by a doctor. Like many, I understand the intention of this process, but in reality it is completely inappropriate and patronising. After 15 minutes of begging we were permitted to fill out said form. We were contacted the next day to congratulate us on receiving a telephone consultation in 10 days time. I called the practice to express my concerns with this inappropriate appointment and was told I would be put back in the triage list. Shortly after filling out an online feedback form regarding my bad experience I was called and informed I would be given a face to face appointment the following week - I was very grateful despite actually needing the appointment that day! The GP that saw my son face to face was dismissive and disinterested in his complaint stating he did not know what was wrong. He did not know what was wrong because he would not perform any tests to find out what was wrong. After pushing for more answers we were reluctantly referred to a paediatrician at QA. The GP stated that perhaps they would be willing to fund the swabs and blood tests required to find a diagnosis. I have no knowledge of how GP services are run or funded, but I do work in a hospital on its knees due to being overrun with inappropriate referrals and desperate people looking for medical help which should be provided in the community. Unfortunately unlike GPs, hospitals cannot choose not to help people. I pity anyone reliant on GP services at this time and hope that myself and my family don’t need to ask for help from this practice in the foreseeable future.

Had to book a review of my contraceptive pill due to side-effects. The process was easy, quick and the nurses were extremely kind and gave me all the information I needed. All done through the phone which I believe was more than enough for this situation.

I was referred by my opticians. Who expressed that I should chase up my appointment. I did go in and was advised to follow up if I didn't hear. 10 days later, I popped in again and the reception chased. Within a couple of hours I received a text for an appointment. I booked a blood test. The nurse was lovely. I am still waiting on my results which should be back, but hopefully I will hear soon. I do now also have a hospital appointment. So I would say this was a positive experience.

I asked for a call from a doctor to discuss treatment for my son and how to prevent the issue returning again. Instead I received a text saying cream and shampoo had been prescribed to treat the issue. I didn’t need both, the cream on its own has always done the job. I still have no information on how to stop the issue returning.

My problem could have been complicated! The receptionist took her time to unravel how best to triage me! The doctor who rang me also took time to sort things out with myself and my wife! Shortly after ending the call as promised I received another call to make me a face to face appointment at my shosen surgery for the following day

Had to call 111 who advised me to contact my Gp. After being sat on the phone for 20 minutes my mum drove me up there. To be told I needed to go to A and E I explained what 111 said and just got the reply, “yeah they do that all the time I wouldn’t take any notice”

After being ignored twice asking for a PSA test despite a family history of it I was diagnosed later having advanced prostate cancer! I wanted to praise the receptionist I spoke to when making an appointment for my low mental health. The receptionist was kind, personable, and constantly reassuring and positive. She was so lovely to speak to and made me feel a lot better. She arranged my appointment and I then had a doctor call same day who arranged the suitable help.

I sought help via 111 for new and unexplained pain near my lymph nodes. The call handler said I would get a call back from the Yew Tree Drive surgery the following day, which didn’t happen. Another day later, I called the surgery to ask about the status of my case and was told it was on a ”do-not-defer list” so I should get a call back as a matter of urgency. Another day later I had still not heard back, so called again. This time I was told the query had been deferred and I should expect a call hopefully within 10 working days. I felt frustrated having been chasing the surgery unnecessarily. If I’d known to expect 10+ days I would have just accepted that and waited. In the end, I did get a text with an appointment time within a week, which I was happy with. I got to see a GP who examined me and referred me on to the QA for ultrasound and mammogram (which also happened within a week). My experience at the surgery was a positive one, with the exception of the parking. I arrived early, but the car park was full so I waited for 10 minutes to see if any spaces opened up. No cars left but others kept arriving, also waiting, blocking the road in and out. I ended up having to park in the disabled bay and apologised about this to reception who just said they were aware of the parking challenges and would let me know of any issues while I was with the GP.
